Voting for Dishonor?
This is a nice idea that I think has promise.
However, what happens if you join a match with 1 or 2 friends, and the other two are strangers? Your friends vote to clear you, but the strangers don’t know your story and thus don’t.
Well, the non-friends are entitled to their opinion as well. If they feel like your DC has ruined their game, and you didn’t manage to change their mind with your performance afterwards, then they’re justified in not voting for you.
If you know that you are prone to unwanted DC’s, best to find a group of understanding people to pre-join as a party, I think.
I’m undecided whether the decision to forgive you should be a majority or unanimous vote.
this is a good idea, i support this.

what about majority and plus dice roll?
if 4 people vote yes to forgive, then 100% the dishonor is invalidated due to genuine d/c problem.
if
3 people vote yes to forgive
1 person vote don’t care
then 3/3
100% dishonor invalidated
if
3 people vote yes to forgive
1 person vote no do not forgive
then 3/4
75% dishonor invalidated,
25% dishonor will remain
if
2 people vote yes to forgive
2 person vote no do not forgive
then 2/4
50% dishonor invalidated,
50% dishonor will remain
if
2 people vote yes to forgive
2 person vote don’t care
then 2/2
100% dishonor invalidated
etc.
how that sound?
by the way, how many choices do you intend to let them vote?
yes, forgive.
no, do not forgive.
do not care, null vote.
just 2 choices? yes and no? or a 3rd choice, to null vote?
I dont think anyone likes RNG, especially for something as important as whether you can play the game or not.
Having a Yes/No option with a timeout (timeout = dont care) probably makes sense to me.
I’d personally go with majority rules rather than unanimous vote… I’d rather protect the majority from trolling No-voters rather than protect the minority solo players from trolling DC 4-player groups :P
The main issue is knowing if a person DC’s and if that lost in time effects your match in a small way, or greatly. People wont know it’s a 4v5 until after the fact. I’ve DC’d mid game defending a node, only to come back 30s later (back at my respawn mind you) to find mid being taken. In a team oriented game, people were wondering why it was being taken with out notice. We lost by 50 pnts, directly because of my DC.
No one knows for sure how costly a DC truly is unless a notification such as “Player X has disconnected”, notifying the whole team so they could react appropriately. But no one truly knows the extent of damage a DC can do.
A vote will only be time consuming and slowing things down. An in-game timer, tracking your in game play would be more suited. Where a certain number of time lost (character out of game) directly effects that player’s accumulated points for that game.
