I can never fully understand this change. I mean seriously? The last thing we needed in pvp was a horde of Shorbow auto-attack spamming/kiting ranger that spams bleeds and other conditions so fast, even Chuck Norris can’t keep up. Add to that an annoying hard to kill pet which now has improved HP and toughness and improved abilities that follows you like a twitter fanboy.
After the massive hit on eles, expect rangers to be dominating every match. Mark my words.

Ele’s remained OP for so long because nerfing them would make them worse in PVE where they are already not that good.
The pet buffs are obviously directed at improving ranger viability in PVE.

Keep your head on a swivel to look out for birds, and if you see a Jaguar go stealth, then run like hell.
Ranger doesn’t need to be anywhere near you to kill you, is not dependent on LoS to burst you and is immortal underwater (not that UW combat matters at the moment). Seems perfectly fair to me. At least we know already where the nerf bat is going to crash down next patch.
Yeah maybe I didn’t realize that this is a good improvement on PVE side including AI improvements on necro pets too. But looking at it on the PVP side is just sickening. Can’t we split these changes too since you’re already at it with some skills? Desperate plea for such a horrible horrible change.

Rangers were already crazy OP 1v1 and on point defense but no one complained so they got buffed.

maybe because they encouraging a ranger to have a skillset beastlord style where the pet does everything. I dont see any problem with pets being stronger.
Rangers were quite good before and there was quite a bit of them.
I called it before the patch that this will be the new FOTM. Expect to see some serious complaining about rangers within the next week. There’s been some complaining in the past but we haven’t seen anything yet.
Wait til more of them start actually using swoop too.
This is probably just a correction to the nerf of pet toughness and vitality. They problably over-did it. If you noticed Guardian spirit weapons also got a boost in hitpoints again. So thats 2 boosts in hit points for them since they were nerfed. A-net is probably trying to find the sweet spot for ranger pets. I highly doubt they are more powerful then they were at the height of beast master specs.

Is there a reason you think you should be able to down a ranger’s pet without actually targeting the pet? And is your strafe key broken? Is there a reason you’re not just walking in circles away from pets? Because they’re still easy to avoid even with the changes 4 months ago.
Yes, it seems out of the blue.
Ranger pets were a waste to focus down already and especially broken in Downed State.
The improvements to responsiveness / AI were needed, but making them even more survivable lowers the skillcap even more and I don’t think that is what Rangers need, nor what SPvp needs right now.
Besides the leash range hasn’t been reduced, so this buff will be unpleasant.
Well, it was uncalled. Anyway, can we at least put a range leash on those pets? Being chased for 2 mins straight, across all the map because their owner is clueless is not fun…

Yeah they were and many people knew that.Also rtl migh not be affected by slows but their leaps have evades and are so many and in so low cd that the disengage is completely over the top compared to their policy and what they did on eles.

pets with aggro range of tyrannosaurus were not killing everything so they needed a little buff to just destroy errything without effort.

Yeah, the buffs are so little, they mean nothing and Rangers are still so underpowered no wonder half your team are always shortbow rangers. Please tell that to the future rants and QQs similar to what has happened with the eles. Enjoy your Super Pets and Crazy Conditions while you still can.

Because someone still managed to kill pets…but apparently pets must not die, their bunker specced ranger won’t die too so you’ve just better to give up cuz now we basically have a bunker ranger+tons of evades+conditions AND a dps pet with more tough and hp to face able to chase you for the whole kittening map..
…yeah…fortunately i already lost all hopes months ago so i don’t care so much, i’ll just reroll ranger if needed, it’s easy to play and it takes a very short time to bring it on a tpvp level (3-4 hours in hotzerg aka custom arenas or whatever they are it’s more than enough, just to memorize the skillbar and cds)…not so much skills needed and good rewards for a cheap price..
btw i already said (Something like 2 months ago) that bunker char + dps pet is clearly nonsense since pets must follow their owner’s base points, you can’t just give a “pocket warrior” to a bunker….

The way the ranger pet performed was a much needed quality of life improvement in terms of AI handling, and the stat point increases aren’t really noticeable except on (lol) bears.
As far as what the AI improvement seems to have done, it appears that the only difference between pets pre patch and pets post patch is that they don’t move their footing every time a person strafes outside of their last location.
What I mean is that you can’t circle strafe them, you actually have to move OUTSIDE of the attacks range.
As far as the amount of damage the ranger pet does, MOST of the ranger community would rather the pet serve as mostly utility while the damage be controlled by mostly the player. So I would say the majority of the ranger community has probably wanted to not have to rely on the pet so much since release.
I’m hoping MORE people play BM rangers now. Maybe it will finally send a message and will result in getting buffs to the class that people actually want.

Obviously they thought that the base amounts weren’t enough (and outside of a BM focused build they weren’t).
Again, as I mentioned earlier, everybody, INCLUDING a large majority of the ranger community, would rather see the damage on the player than on the pet. I cannot stress this enough, as the survival and function of the pets are in good spot across the board.
I cannot stress enough that pets wouldn’t even be an issue if they only hit ~300 damage per hit with the same amount of survival.

That’s literally it short of Sick ‘em getting a shorter CD
(pets can’t use F2 or switch targets or anything after you click Sick ’em or it cancels the pet dmg/speed buffs)
No AI buffs.
No more viable pets.
It’s the same game, just with nerfed eles.
And the ele nerf was a terrible way to go about it.
Plain and simple.
Hidden internal CDs are bad.
Nerfing cantrips by nerfing eles is bad.
Ruining the only good source of cleansing a class had without any sort of compensation, the class with the lowest hp in a condition dominated meta, is bad…
I main a condition ranger.
Anet seemingly has no idea what they are doing.
They seem to just be going to town just wack-a-moling anything they view as too good. Leaving classes as patchworks of bad utilities, niche balancing and hidden CDs.

lol… alot of rangers tag a pet to a player as they go and cap a point; its definitely not ‘clueless’, and one of the advantages of having two half characters
It does not matter how hard-hitting pets are, because the AI is so horrible that if you are actually getting hit the issue lies with you..
Sure, Raven can crit for 6k with its F2 skill, but getting the pet in the correct position for it to land is almost impossible.

Not really, already made a bm for fun some weeks ago and wasn’t hard to play at all expec if you already play mesmer and you’re used to AI dmg dealing things and a lot of F skills spamming…and meanwhile you realize that pets deal the same amount of dmg of traited glass phantasms and they’re more tough than the mesmer himself…just saying..wanna complain about izerk’s dmg? Just take a look at a jaguar (+ stealth wtf)/raven first…while his owner is not a glass cannon at all…

This wasn’t a class breaking nerf by any means.
Eles are still alive and kicking, the only burst of condition removal left is the fire cantrip, cover conditions can kitten the kitten out of eles that don’t take that cantrip now. Anyways Anet made a bad nerf with no compensation to eles to make anything else even slightly viable.
All those complaining about the pet boost need to realize that the biggest issue with pets is not related to PvE or PvP, but in fact to dungeons where they become absolutely useless in far too many cases, unless you do not send them into combat. This buff to pets unavoidably spreads everywhere.
I did happen to catch a developer talk about them looking into the idea of giving everyone a customized Hero pannel, in which you would be able to toggle between PvP/PvE/WvW/Dungeon tabs. This is to avoid having to pay for changing your build everytime you go into those environments, especially if you have not balanced your class out yet. This would be very useful because, if done propperly, it could help isolate balance issues that players find rather than have them spread everywhere because of a single nerf or buff to a profession.
Yea, they seriously need to split pvp and pve. I have no idea what ranger is like in pvp. But their pet survivability in pve, dungeons, and wvw was god-awful. The HP and toughness pet buff was meant to compensate for the pets dumb AI.

Btw I have completely killed a thief with my pets while in the downed state.
He ran in to stomp me, I 2’ed, he shadow refuged, I used wolf fear, he came back to stomp, wolf knocked down, he went to heal, I 2’ed again and swapped to the drakehound for another knockdown… he died….
I laughed for like 5 minutes.
Tons of heals, super dmg mitigation, tanky pets that hurt a lot, tons of arrows that make your own mitigation useless.
Pretty much king of 1v1 (maybe next to phantasm Mesmer which at least has no place in the meta unless its a niche team comp)
THEN WE ADD A PATCH TO MAKE THEIR PETS EVEN BETTER?
