By this, I mean with Mesmers and Necromancers.

Necromancers especially when they have what seems like a hundred little monsters nipping at your face, you’re trying to target them and your abilities are just going to whatever is nearest.

You then finally target them and they disappear for a split second, losing the target and it re-targets all the little monsters.

Most times I seem to die because I simply can’t ever actually keep them targeted.

For minion necros you need to either kite the AI such that it gives you direct unobstructed LoS to the necro, or get up close and melee. For mesmers it’s the same thing but easier, since the phantasms don’t constantly attack and follow you in melee range; they’ll run after you when they are ready to attack which is once every few seconds depending on the phantasm. Clones mostly range, so they are not a problem; the exception is the sword clone. Clones don’t move like a player though - they don’t dodge, circle around you, or use multiple skills. As for mesmers entering stealth a lot, you can either just change to a different target until you see them either reappear or spot a non-clone-like movement by one of the mesmer look-alikes, or, you can attempt to follow where they might go - which gets easier with experience - or bombard the area with AoE.

This isn’t so much a solution to not getting confused, that’s just practice and experience. This is how to deal with the targeting/meat shield issue.

The real problem is when you have 2 mesmers each with 3 phantasms out following you at once, because then you literally cannot click past them to select a target! In this case, just aoe to try and kill them, or lure them into AoE created by your allies.

For necros and mesmers using aoe skills is the best way to deal with their add ons.

Using cripple and chill on necro minions is a good way to kite them and position yourself closer to the necro so there’s less chance of minions getting in the way.

For mesmers, just keep tabbing till you see a mesmer with boons. Also watch for dodging and active gameplay. There is no trick to it, once you get practice you will start to notice mesmer movements automatically and not have to think about which one is real.

Also necro mobility is abysmal so just run away and reset fight if need be.
