"We knew Warriors would end up this way"
Hey Felivear, thanks for the post!
We knew for a while that Warriors were stronger than the meta seemed to indicate at one point, and we knew a fix for the sigil was coming.
We have to make sure we aren’t making you guys download new clients all the time for fixes. We knew the sigil of paralyzation was strong, but we also knew our fix was coming in today’s update.
Hope this makes sense and thanks for the post!
It’s perfectly valid for a developer to state that they know a class is more powerful than what is being represented in the game. After all…they designed it…so they should know.
However, claiming it was just the sigil making them too strong doesn’t seem to jive with those of us who have been playing.
I would contend that the player base WAS RIGHT about warriors not being viable in the Meta.
Things only changed when Anet buffed them – not because players suddenly learned how to play a warrior. In particular, it was the healing signet and berserker stance change that made the most difference – not the paralyzation sigil.
If you don’t believe me, just spectate any warrior now and count how many use the healing signet and berserker stance utilities versus how many don’t. Also, compare it to how many players used them PRIOR to your buffs.
Bottom line…the players aren’t always right…but with regard to warriors, it’s also sheer folly to imply that the players were slow to adapt. I would argue it was Anet who was slow to react and properly buff them.
Whether you guys went too far is debatable, but I think there is clear evidence that warriors (or any profession) is far too strong with a passive heal that is so good that the active portion never has to be pressed.
esp if it outshine as example ranger who spends 30 points in bm and go full cleric.

(assuming the game is coded in C++)
turn “int” (wich stand for integer) into “float”
multiply this float by 4
call the function that drop all decimals??? (instead of calling ceil)
divide by 4OVER
Take 2min. GG
…so as example: 3.0 * 15% = 3.0 * 1.15 = 3.45
3.45 * 4 = 13.8 => 0.8 / 4 != 3.5nice try!
so 13,8
drop decimals:
13
divide by 4
3,25
yes its a nice try ^^
its the first “trick” you learn in programming :p
Nothing to say to improve the topics :/
War are imba and devs are blind

It does the job well :-)
i dont think the warrior is op atm , the problem is the gs/mace .shield stunlock + (the bugged zserker stance) build.
Hey Felivear, thanks for the post!

Sometimes it just takes a while ( IN ANY GAME ) for people to try all builds, all combinations of strategies, all options, etc.
That’s why we want to see what today’s improvements do to the game, especially to support meta. I ran into a VERY strong staff Elementalist earlier on live, and was excited to see it when I did.
It normally takes a few days/weeks for builds to assimilate new changes into their kitten nals.

Hi Jonathan!
This is something that I find to be a head scratcher. I understand that your SW development process dictates it will take weeks to push a bug fix out. However, hasn’t anyone internally questioned if that really needs to be the modus operandi? I work in software development all day, and I know that certain development processes (integration, regression & quality testing) can take some time. However, you have processes that let you push out a critical bug-fix in hours (mesmer exploit, just to name one).
Before I played Guild Wars 2, I played Rift. While these games are very different, one of things I found unique and commendable about Rift was the rate at which they could push out bug fixes. Here, take a look at the announcements page: http://forums.riftgame.com/general-discussions/news-announcements/
If Rift can routinely push out bug fixes on a near-daily basis (with in-game downtime of approximately 10 minutes), why is it so hard to imagine the GW2 team is not capable of pushing out bug fixes on, at least, a weekly basis?
Are there any plans to increase the frequency at which bug fixes are pushed out?

k right. was thinking u mean the part before the .
Why not fire the kids in Anet and let the grownups who have had their fair 20 years in designing games step in and take over? Lol. Sometimes a new team would do this game good. And yeah, that was a long shot but I think most people got my point.

You do have a point. Their team is obviously not very experienced… So many silly mistakes.
And you know what it isn’t just you. It so many people on this forum, every class forum ever made, hell even the living world forum.
I know forums are made for people to complain (which they aren’t really), and we are on the internet but my god why not try to show some decency and maybe even a bit of respect not just because Anet is full of people. But because youre ASKING THEM FOR STUFF, i swear if i was in charge i would go bankrupt and just turn the entire game off and asked you how you like it now since it was so bad.
Well said dude, the atmosphere on these forums is toxic. Some devs have admitted that they’re demotivated by all the kitten they’re catching here and I can totally understand why.
I’m starting to think they had the right idea when they decided not to have official forums back in GW1. I questioned it at the time but now I get why.

A while back there was some buzz about some high-profile developers quitting game development because of the rabid pressure from “fans” that were honestly impossible to please. Can’t recall the company atm.
Lol if people were like this on a “forum” for a visual artist or musician…usually consumers in the entertainment world look around and find a product they like. (music, tv shows, etc.) Apparently in the game world, we just buy whatever looks cool and then spend the next few years of our lives wishing it were different.
The warrior being “OP” wasn’t from some huge nerf. Someone just found a build that worked very well against almost everything else. That’s the thing alot of people dont seem to see. Anet doesn’t make the meta the players do. Warrior & S/D thief have been the exact same as they are now the people just took some time experimenting builds & finally after they strike gold everyone says Anet does a bad job at balancing their game. I feel that’s just a lack of true interest by most people.
People are mad because they are going to have to wait another 3-4 months for any fixes and there is little guarantee anything worthwhile will be changed then. Nothing worthwhile was changed this time and oddly the class with the most builds/roles was given the most development time. While other pigeon holed or ineffective classes got nothing. Its like being at a restaurant where someone is getting great service and the rest of the tables are sitting there hungry.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
“We have to make sure we aren’t making you guys download new clients all the time for fixes”
Really?
That 1 minute it takes to download and update?
I’d rather like to see this happen everyday!!
Oh and on the warrior topic.. kittens op, Dev’s should stop playing warrior and play something interesting (maybe they will get some buff’s then)
iow.
/yawn, excuses excuses.

Actually, Anet made most meta’s by design..
Look at the WvW metagame.. you think the players made the warrior #1 “staying alive” Meta?
No, because of lag, skill lag, and other rediculously broken things people are forced to go #1 Warrior/Guardian so they can still participate in groupfights.
Heck most people don’t care about builds anymore, if someone asks what do i need to bring to WvW, the answer is 99%, Warrior with banner and armor.. the rest doesn’t matter since if you want to run with the group even if it’s 20 ppl once you meet another big group most skills won’t fire.. so the group with the best pre fight buff and longest pre fight activated heals (regen) wins..
NB: Anet should have struck gold before players and should ’ve realized that this whole thing stinks.

Anet doesn’t make the meta the players do.
This is rubbish. Anet makes the numbers for the players to base the meta on. Players only make the meta in the sense of capitalizing on what’s obviously optimal; they don’t control what’s optimal. That can be pretty objectively determined with math.
Anet spends a LOT of manpower on things that should be implemented when the game’s core mechanics are already in a solid spot, but those mechanics are in a terrible state. It’s going to take considerable time for them to get to that point, and Anet either isn’t willing or able to allocate the people necessary to bring it up to speed within a reasonable time frame. On top of that, they have a bad habit of nerfing things that work and over buffing things that don’t, creating the whack-a-mole situation they said they wanted to avoid. They don’t seem to understand that smaller but extremely frequent balance patches will actually help the game more than decently sized ones every 3-4 months.
While I don’t doubt their intentions are good, to the educated consumer this game needs a ton of work on its core that simply isn’t being addressed.
Just curious:
For 2 weeks, has there been enough time to now see what needs fixing? For instance, warriors are almost indistinguishable from what they were prior to the patch. They are just as strong and in the case of my new build, stronger because of other changes.
My original question still stands. How long do we wait for new changes? The perception of this “collaborative development” will wear off pretty quick once people start to see that changes are still made at the same maddening pace.
Today is a patch. If nothing changes today I’d be very concerned because I don’t think this game can survive another 3 months without balance changes like we did around PAX. I would hope the WvW leagues aren’t justification for no balance updates like tournaments were. The majority of WvW servers are lagged cesspools of 1 spam right now.

People have been saying “if this patch doesn’t bring good changes, the game is boned” since a month after release.
It still hasn’t happened.
If anything, the game is worse to play now than then.

Agreed, and it won’t get better at a suitable speed (balance-wise) until Anet hunkers down and gives balancing the manpower it demands at the moment.
Lets hope we can give warriors some balancing to bring them down to everyone’s power level, next to follow should be necros, spirit rangers, D/D thief.
