We need a nerf for thief
Never seen that before, may be on the very old days thives get away with the ‘signet’ yolo build. In fact I pretty much 1 shot 2 thieves on my bersker warrior the other day.
Thieves are still just as weak as before. P’s can’t tell if trolling.

While a good played thief can realy hurt, they are totaly squisy… It seems thief is a high skill class. Played well they can be amazing, otherwise the are only extra load ….
Had a fun machtch two days ago. Played my ele and got paired with four thiefs …

It was a blast. Totally fun. The thiefs paired up and were maximum mobile. While i gave decend point support holding long enough till two thiefs arived .. We ripped them appart :-).
On the other side i barley have any troubles with thiefs. A good one striking at the wrong moment is for what they are and this is always a threat, but i regulary finish them off or drive them away … So it depends on the build, class an player skill how dangerous they are anf this is a good thing.
I keep getting busted when playing thief and I laugh at the bad ones when playing tankier class. I can only be amazed at those who can pull off the thief job well. Really, why should they be nerfed as a high risk, high reward class?

Yes, a lot of ppl play thief, but that really doesn’t say anything about how strong it is, cuz it’s not very strong. Thief doesn’t need a nerf at all.

thief already is at the bottom of the list for most 1v1 situations,
there is no way to “one shot” as a single thief anymore, 1 because backstabs dmg is somewhat pathetic, 2 because almost every class has 1 to 2 invuln, one that autoprocs, so one shot is total bullkitten
last thing is, if you get ganked by 2 or more thieves, of course you’ll die, what do you expect, i guess we should nerf every single class that can work as a team, since 2 or 3 mesmer, warri, guards, etc will kill you that fast as well..
Thiefs are a “score or miss” kinda class IMO. You either biblically own someone (very fast) or someone will biblically own you (very fast)…whereas most other classes are move versatile.
All those thieves are just achievement hunters in-between seasons where loosing doesnt “do” anything to impact season and where they can get their Champion Shadow.
yeah, I’ve been playing thief for the off-season, and if you can dodge my kittening opener you will have an incredibly high chance of winning.
Most DD’s open with Basalisk venom>Black Powder> bounding dodger > steal> backstab, which makes their attacks unblockable, gives them stealth, and lands a bounding dodger hit and a backstab. However, this is pretty all in, and if they miss their basalisk venom or the backstab you can turn the fight around on them on secure a win in the fight unless they are a quick thinker and adapt
reduce the auto attack and buff cnd and hs is all that the thief need the aut is out of hand
not aut isnt really out of hand, thief lacks burst skills besides cloak and dagger, as most of its weapon abilities rely on utility/gimmicks. As a result, they buffed AA to compensate for lack of spike on weapon skills. AA is the only thief weapon skill that they control the cooldowns for too, everything else is initiative

No one really complained about thief damage like this in PvP before the Jan. 26 patch which buffed the AA, so it’s hard for me to believe that the problem lies in the “devastating effects from the rest of their skills”. The problem now is that their AA is currently just as devastating…
unfortunately, you’re misinformed. The biggest chaage was making basalisk venom make attacks unblockable

I agree with you for different reasons. Nerf thief.
Why? It is junk tier. I hate when I get a thief on my team. They are the single biggest reason for most losses. If they are nerfed, maybe no one will play the class.
It will be interesting to see how the pro league finals play out tomorrow. Possibly the best two thieves in the game will be there. Will they play thief or will they play a different class?

If you think something is broken post a video of YOU showing how OP it is.
I guarantee anyone picking up thief thinking they are easy are going to get a big surprise when they find themselves spending most of the game staring at the respawn timer.

This is why I multi class so heavily. It helps me understand weaknesses of other classes and to take a slightly more objective look at things.
That said though. Staff (general) and dagger auto is a bit over the top, while back stab is somewhat underwhelming.
Above all, though, I’m not sure it’s the most pressing balance issue right now.

Thief is in a really good spot right now. It’s not too strong and not too weak.
The buff to Basalisk Venom was a much needed buff and opens a lot of avenues for thief to counter some of the blocks that we keep running into. The buff to Black Powder was also a really good buff. Reducing the after cast gave it synergy with Bounding Dodger for some really quick easy stealth combos.
The biggest buff to thief was the nerf that the bunker classes have taken. The removal of Celestial amulet, and Durability runes allows the thief to deal the damage that it used to do. In the last meta, having so many bunkers in matches created a need for more sustained type of damage, and that is not a thief’s strong point. Thief being more of a bursty damage type excels now that there are no true bunkers. Now if we can just manage those pesky Scrappers!

Thief is too easy too play and too strong, like a dragonhunter a bit harder but still the same.

1. Thieves cant truly one shot anything. You’re looking for a shatter Mesmer or Gunflame warrior.
2. Maybe they’re everywhere because thief was essentially banned last season. I guess that thought process is too complicated.

Thieves can certainly global other berserker/marauder builds. I’m not saying it is over the top, I think it’s in a decent spot. If a thief messes up, it’s fairly easy to punish them. The one thing that, imo, is a little too much is with the AA damage increase it has become too easy to headshot spam with pulmonary impact.
Maybe in hot join, or maybe your MMR is quite low.
Isn’t Hot join all we have been left with since patch? Only way to really judge where thief stands in the current meta is to have ranked que back and see where the dust settles in a couple weeks.

- So we had threads crying for thief nerfs for 3 years.
- Thieves got gradually reduced to junk tier (mostly because not a single dev has any experience with the class besides Ruby spamming random spells on passive golems in HotM).
- So we had threads upon threads asking to remove thieves from ranked/delete the class because it supposedly caused loses during season 1 not to mention that everyone and their mother was consistently harassing thieves in matches calling them names, telling them to reroll, uninstall, kill themself while customer support did absolutely nothing about such player griefing.
- Thieves got slight buff after season 1 (which still don’t put them anywhere close to certain elites/classes…cough scrappers… cough druid….). Thief is still only class that has to run from most 1v1.
- Now we have people like OP crying for thief nerfs.
There is just not enough facepalms for this.

Thief is not op just popular. Many weaponsets are just simply bad like sd, thus they should buff dmg on flanking strike and add blind to clowk and dagger at the very least
