Is there any point to using weakness/chill as a secondary component to a build? I very rarely hear people complain about these two conditions. I mostly hear about CC/stacks. Regardless of if you go power/condi, do these conditions influence pvp matches that much?

This is just for my own education.

Chill is great. And annoying to have on you. the bigger problem with either is they’re not as easy to stack constantly without giving up a lot in the process. sometimes its just not worth being OVERLY concerned with them, but they’re still great conditions.

WOW. Thanks for logging me out mid reply (was long).

Moral of the ENTIRE thing I wrote was. If people are not constantly directly dying from something, they will not complain about it.

They are both great conditions and when used in the right situations and can be game changing. IE: Shutting down a high burster with some weakness and chill. You will not hear the complaints because it would just sound silly. (“I am TIRED of someone putting weakness on me right before my big hits. Then some of my attacks only do 50% damage!?!! SO OP!!!!”) Lolz<<

That’s kind of it, yeah. You’re more likely to see complains about things that have a direct correlation to their health depleting, such as insane burst, too many condi stacks or AI. Historically speaking, those have almost always been the hot topics. More times than not people don’t care about balance or whats actually effective, they just don’t like dying, and if they can point the finger, they will. :P

Anyone experienced with a burst build will tell you that weakness makes them useless for the duration of the condition. Weakness is like a 30-40% reduction in damage for high-crit builds. This is because it turns 50% of normal hits into glancing blows (50% of base damage) and 50% of hits that WOULD crit into glancing blows (50% of base damage). If you have 50% crit chance and 200% crit damage, then you lose 33% of your damage.

Any ele that has ever played a build that isn’t 6 water will tell you that chill = death if they can’t cleanse it quickly.

So do you use cover conditions to get them to stick or do they get cleansed first?

What are you asking? Which ones at THAT moment do you want to stick the most, cover those. Just because 1 guy doesn’t have condi cleanse it doesn’t mean the guy next to him doesn’t and isn’t splashing him with it. Same rules applies for these 2 as they do for every other condi. Protect the ones you want on there the most. Situationally different at all times.

I have a hard time with thief, mesmer, and ele burst. I was looking at ways I could mitigate that with weakness/chill. The goal would be to apply it well against those classes. So my question was more along the lines of, how do make sure I get them to stick?

you should mention which class do you use but in general you might want to take a look at sigil of hydromancy, used right it’s great both to kite or to make a burst easier to land.

don’t expect conditions to stick to elementalists however.

Weakness and Chill are both really good if you can keep them on an opponent a decent amount of the time. Weakness ends up being a 25% (base) average DPS loss, and a glancing backstab is like getting hit with a wet noodle compared to normal. Chill is also massive, since it allows you to kite even when crippled, and it destroys CDs.

Both are really strong conditions, but they are both balanced. Its also hard to complain since they don’t directly make you lose, they just make mistakes much harsher. Weakness really punishes using your big damage or bursts without thinking, and chill really hurts dumb use of bigger CDs. But at the end of the day its usually bad players who blanket complain about abilities, and bad players won’t even notice chill/weakness, they notice backstab or turrets or w/e.

It should also be noted that weakness is not only very powerful defensively, but also offensively as it cuts endurance regen in half. This is most noticeable if you are playing something like a power necro, which puts heavy pressure and can quickly make your opponents run out of dodges.

Chill is good but when you have sigils like geomancy and doom around sigil of ice and hidromancy are not used a lot.

Weakness and chill are just good side effects.

Nobody uses those in PvE so most of the players don’t even know what they do. And yes, they’re very useful.

This is just for my own education.

From Wiki
“Weakness is a condition that decreases the rate of endurance regeneration and turns half of all hits into glancing blows (that deal 50% less damage). Stacks of weakness increase the duration of the condition. Only stacks up to 5 times.”
“A glancing hit, also known as a glancing blow or simply as glancing, is a game mechanic that causes an attack to deal only 50% of regular damage and lose any critical damage. Glancing affects only direct damage, not damage dealt by conditions.”

That alone should answer your question and remove all doubt regarding value of Weakness condition.

Actually its a huge complaint.

Especially in games like league of legends. they have “exhaust” which slows them and makes their dmg do less.

Its a very specific counter to a specific playstlye, so when used properly its overly effective.

Weakness is the enemy of any zerker classes. They will not be able to crit you and if you are a cele, the fight is entirely in your favor.

Chill is the enemy of any swapping weapons/kit/attunement classes. Put chill on an ele, they will be forced to cleanse it or it will disrupt their rotation.
