I’ve been liking this season so far.. Except for a few points. First of all, the matchmaking is kind of weird. From personal experience as well as testimony from friends, when we lose, we always seem to lose a lot of mmr. Make that twice of what we normally gain. That makes it so that ultimately, when we have a winrate of about 66% (2 wins, 1 loss), we make no progress. This is quite abyssal as a winrate of 66% is very decent!

I understand we might be occasionally matched against players that are below our mmr, and thus the system would ‘expect us to win’, so when we lose we lose quite a bit of mmr.. But that shouldn’t happen every time right? Right now, it seems that that’s wholly the case. Perhaps you could tighten the mmr range metric? I would rather have longer queue times and fairer matches than shorter queue times and unbalanced matches. Or may I suggest fixing a rate of mmr gain/loss (e.g. +20/-20) so everyone with a positive winrate can make progress. It’s quite atrocious when I lose a match I get at least -40 mmr, but when I win I get like +18..

Secondly, I feel that point difference should be taken into account in mmr gain or reduction if there is no fixed rate. I mean if it doesn’t matter to the system if we lose by a point difference of 10 or a point difference of 100 then there’s really no motivation to play as well if team momentum is lost. It’s hard to motivate your team to continue trying (knowing you can still win) if even one person feels the game is lost..

Lastly, there should be some kind of buff for the team to offset a team mate leaving the game.. Or lighter mmr loss if that isn’t feasible. After all, an abandon is out of our control and being penalised for it is quite unreasonable.
