What Class Do You Like the Least on Your Team
if they make spirit watch a tournament map, i can see a lot of longbow ranger running around and being more viable lol
but too bad, people hate spirit watch.
Whichever one is the daily win class. I can’t count on them to understand their role or trust that they know their class when they probably picked it to finish off a daily.
i’d probably agree with your list
ranger: objectively the profession in the worst place right now. power ranger is nothing more than a gimmick (more gimmicky even than s/f fresh air ele) that brings very little to the table especially when compared to thief, mesmer, or even medi guard. your standard condition ranger (sb + a/d) doesn’t have enough condition variety to really be effective in my opinion, at least to warrant having one over a condition engineer or necro.
thief/mesmer: while thief and mesmer reward skill extremely well (aka high risk high reward) making them very strong professions in the hands of competent players, people who are anything below decent on them will usually only become a point-feed for the enemy team.
everything else is strong enough and forgiving enough to make them always have at least some value, even in the hands of mediocre players (especially celestial builds, shout warrior, and medi guard).
There isn’t a class that I don’t like having on my team, it just depends on the player behind the profession. Any profession can be good in pvp, and if they play well then that’s all that matters. I just don’t like when people compete with professions and builds that they don’t know how to use lol.
Longbow rangers. Can’t/don’t fight on point when they should. Are easily countered by walking up to them. Did have a spirit ranger on one team that wasn’t too bad. But the rest have all been longbows. :/ Love seeing them on the other team though.
Bunker guardians. Mostly because I’d rather have engineer or another ele. Bunker guardians just don’t seem to have the sustain they once did.
I hate that this thread is so inherently negative, but I’m going to bite anyway…
1. Rangers
- They tend to stay back and away from the fight when sometimes they need to actually you know, help with stomps and rezzes…
- They almost never cap home even though it’s their “traditional” role in a sense (maybe I’m still stuck in the Spirit Ranger days?).
- Sorry, but the skill level of most Rangers I see just seem to be very very low.
2. Thief
- They don’t know how to play their class’ strengths. There is a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference between a good thief and a bad thief. A good thief is a game changer and imo one of the best classes, but in my experience most thieves are bad.
- Far Heroes. See above post.
- Unnecessarily arrogant when most thieves are bad.
3. Mesmer
- I hate to say this considering I’ve exclusively played Mesmer forever now, but a lot of Mesmers play weird builds. I’m guilty of this too sometimes. They’re not always effective for team play.
- Since I play Mesmer exclusively, it means if I see another Mesmer on my team, we are typically handicapped unless we are playing baddies (which is where the Mesmer class shines bright like a diamond).
4. Warrior
- Whiniest players I’ve seen in-game during matches. And I thought us Mesmers were bad!!
- They seem to not know how to rotate at all. They love going into uneven matches. I think they often forget that their stances don’t have 100% uptime…
Shout out to my engis and necros. They tend to be the players who understand the basic strategies for conquest most regularly.

Bunker guardians. Mostly because I’d rather have engineer or another ele. Bunker guardians just don’t seem to have the sustain they once did.
Bunker guard has changed little to none over the last couple of years. Sustain is pretty much exactly the same. If that tells you anything about the class.
Who I generally don’t want to see:
1. Mesmers: Don’t stand on point, get wrecked by both condis and power burst from rangers/thieves. Half of them run absolutely useless builds.
2. Rangers: As a long time Ranger main, there are about 2 other North American Rangers I’d want to see on my team. Most of them are running no condi cleanse no, 1 stun break glass longbow rangers.
3. Glass Elementalists: Seriously, if you’re not mechanically good at the game, then don’t play S/F fresh air ele.
Who I want on my team:
1. Celestial Engineer: As many of these as I can get, thanks. Even if the person playing it has very little idea what they are doing, spamming nades and rifle attacks and crating 1v1s is still going to make them pretty effective.
2. Cele D/D Ele: Same principle as above.
3. Tanky Warriors like Hambow/Shoutbow: They hold points well, are decently mobile, and can win 1v1s against squishies.
Thieves. Because 90% of them do nothing but whine, yell at the team, or camp far and make no use of themselves. I don’t know what it is about Thief players but so many of them are self-absorbed as_holes. I have a Thief of my own and I’m the total opposite, I’m crappy and I know it, I don’t know what makes other Thieves so over-confident and rude but they rarely have anything constructive to say and are generally a liability as soon as more than one are on the same team. That’s not to say all Thieves are like this because no matter how many rude and crappy Thieves I meet I’ll never think that that behavior is all encompassing. I give all of them an equal chance but.. They don’t usually like to prove me wrong.

i feel necros, thieves and mesmers are the worst feeders by far. lots of bad mesmers running around now.
Bunker guards. They are pretty much worthless in uncoordinated games. You win the first teamfight because of them and after that they either run arround, get into 1v1s and 2v2s that they can stalemate at best or they afk camp mid after they capped it.
Not saying that bunker guard is bad but it’s useless in many situations and when you play with pugs without ts or anything getting them in the situations where they are useful is pretty much impossible.
Let me change your mind on necro’s!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATILwq_qYiw
^watch that, necro’s can do some good you know
As a ranger main since day 1 I’d have to say:
1) Rangers. 90% of rangers in pvp are terrible but the few good ones can be great for a team
2) Thiefs. A good thief can be a game changer but a bad thief will doom the team
3) Necros
Another thief. It’s the 2nd worst class in terms of class stacking, only topped by mesmers.
ranger: your standard condition ranger (sb + a/d) doesn’t have enough condition variety to really be effective in my opinion, at least to warrant having one over a condition engineer or necro.
What game are you playing where sb + a/d condi ranger is a bad build?
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Rangers #1, Most are terrible pew pew rangers with no skill. They don’t provide your team with anything, and they feed opposing teams points like no other.
Thieves #2 only because the skill cap is high, most thieves I get stuck with aren’t very good.
Mesmers/Necros #3 Skill cap is fairly high just to not need to be babysat, and in pug games babysitting isn’t really an option.
Probably warriors. Out of all the classes I fight regularly warrior is the one im least afraid of. Because they largely all fight in the same patterns. Once you know the patterns it isn’t difficult to avoid they key attacks. Outside of that condi warriors tend to be the only dangerous ones. When I see one on my team its like (well HES gonna get kited to death)
Mesmers and warriors but for two different reasons.
Mesmers are just very hard to play properly and rely on good team rotations to be 100% effective, needless to say most of the times this doesn’t happen.
Warriors because they have the biggest difference between a good build and a bad build, axe/axe warriors are something capable of losing games by themselves.
I don’t like seeing Rangers on my team.
Followed by mesmers and thieves.
Reasoning:
1) Rangers do not provide anything to the team that other classes do not do better
2) Mesmers while having fantastic bursts tend have more needs than random teams can provide. Also a lot of mesmers play weird builds that do not do much in pvp. Condi Pu is kinda shrug worthy.
3) Thieves aren’t bad on a team. It’s just most thieves don’t live up to the role they provide in random queues.
I think maybe we are discussing two different things – in Teamq class matters, because skill level is near Expert level, and you have great communication. In Soloq, class matters a lot less – it is a function of who has the least amount of no skills / no communication people on the team.
I have two things that bother me mostly in Soloq (only in Ranked…because the others don’t matter).
I dislike seeing certain people/Teamq on the other team or conversely….certain people on my team. It’s an auto loss or 4v5.
Or low level classes – Most of the time it means they are new.
In Soloq, if you have played with me, I always Hi Team – and then start asking Strategy, if most of the team responses and talks about plans…I know we have a very strong chance of winning…if not…it usually hurts…bad.

That, and warriors running lots of signets… I cringe everytime I see a warrior running a signet build (and 9 out of 10 times he just ends up being rallybait).

My thoughts exactly ! the whole point of a warrior is to be able to facetank when needed and provide area denial.
If you play with 5 signets you lose facetanking and if you play without longbow you lose area denial

It’s a bad build.
Think about in relation to other classes why it’s bad.
Rangers. I’ve mained Ranger for a long time yet 95% of the other Rangers I meet are useless. They can’t rotate, they engage wasted fights, they sit back and pew on longbow all day. Even the ones who play condi survival like myself rotate their skills awfully and get rekt, relying on their passives to win them the fight. Half of them play axe/dagger because it is on metabattle when in reality they would be better of with sword/dagger as they don’t have team mates to peel for them. Then you get the shortbow rangers who pew away into the front of a target failing completely to apply bleeds. I also bump into spirit rangers who as soon as they spawn summon 4 spirits and run mid, die to aoe and are a waste equally. Then there are the condi rangers who die to thieves, mesmers, engies and necros. You should be winning those fights. Oh and did I forget to mention the rangers who run onto a point and blow entangle every time it comes off cooldown?
I have a serious hatred for other Rangers in this game honestly.

1) Guardians. Why? Because I am one! 2 Guardians in a team is far from ideal, more so than other classes. I don’t run bunker but I find many bunker Guardians actually aren’t much use and are a wasted slot. Medi Guards are fine.
2) Thieves. Mostly because thieves dance around so much in stealth that they are rather useless at contesting points. Whenever I’m on a point and a thief rocks up I know that I can finish capping it no problem because every time I just get the thief down to low health and they run off in stealth for a while. Its a gift really.
3) Mesmers. I think mesmers can be great in spvp but half the time its just someone who is trying a new build or can’t really play properly.
4) Rangers. They never seem to actively contest or cap points because they are always trying to snipe people in the field.

What game are you playing where sb + a/d condi ranger is a bad build?
sb + a/d relies entirely on bleeds for the majority of their damage while lacking the ability to bury them beneath other conditions to counter even the lightest condition cleanses. the only two conditions that condi ranger can effectively apply at a high rate are bleed and poison, while barely being able to supplement them with chill/cripple/weakness. aside from this the only thing that condition ranger brings to the table is the aoe immobilize from entangle. so not only do other condition builds like terrormancer and rabid engie bring more utility to the table, they also are just stronger condition professions in general.
as someone who mains d/p thief I fight against condition builds all the time and it’s no mystery heavy condition pressure can counter us badly, yet i breathe a sigh of relief when engaging in a 1v1 against a condi ranger because of how easy it is to handle them, even on 26006.

Interesting.
I never had much trouble with vs. most profession. My condi ranger can definitely defeat good D/P thieves while I struggle very hard with any other builds I run with.

Maybe you just thought bad Rangers. In a 1 on 1 fight a condi survival ranger, with sword or axe will always win a 1v1. If it becomes 2v1 or whatever then fine yeah, but thief wont beat ranger in that setup 1v1. Of course most rangers suck.

1. Mesmer; Too many players play kitten phantasm or condi builds and stroll in with a WvW or dueling setup and expect to be effective. Most shatter Mesmers can’t play pug groups effectively and really requires an organised team to pull its wait given equal skilled opponants.
2. Ranger; Pew Pew Pew. If you’re gonna stand wayy off point and auto attack bring something with mobility a real burst and escape options. In saying that condi rangers aren’t to bad in a pug group.
3. Thiefs; Too important of a role to have a terrible player in it. I worry when I see thieves I don’t recognize.
Mellowpuff [Champion Hunter]
1.) Mesmer. Most of them are playing some weird useless builds, don’t know anything about position and just die like flies.
2.) If I would play as a shout-support-bunker-guard, I’d say another guard, since there is a pretty good chance, that the other guard is going to play the exact same build, and therefore our team might lack a lot of damage.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
1) ranger – because most of them run brainless rapid fire build and never cap anything, nor rez anyone, nor stomp, nor decap… all they ever do is sit on ledge and pew pew
2) thieves… because i main thief myself and more thieves on team decreases win chances by a lot
Not sure why people hate mesmers, if you coordinate burst with mesmer you can keep entire team at spawn all match + portal bombs is not something to laugh at. Then again it seems like in current meta people enjoy sitting afk on tanky hybrid and stare at other tanky hybrids~

i’ve fought and dueled plenty of “good” condi rangers and win the large majority of the time. simply put you have all the tools available to you to beat them on 26006.
with smart use of hide in shadows, ranger’s steal skill, shadow step, and a shortbow with sigil of generosity you can handle most rangers without much issue. and if you’re 60206 on d/p then they become trivial to fight. hell, condition mesmers are harder to deal with.

I won’t deny that condi rangers are one of the strongest 1v1 builds/classes, but they bring absolutely nothing to a team fight except predominantly single-target conditions and easily cleansable aoe conditions, which makes them good only for defending the close point or pushing the far point (I know they have some aoe condi damage, but this is a very small percentage of their total dps). But even then, they don’t have the mobility to push the far point from the close point without easily giving up the close point, the enemy team would likely see you running to the far point as well, causing you to lose both the close and far points.
I would much rather have a celestial ele of some description (d/d or staff) as the side-bunker since they actually bring something to the table in team fights, while being very capable at 1v1.

3. Glass Elementalists: Seriously, if you’re not mechanically good at the game, then don’t play S/F fresh air ele.
Essentially you don’t want someone who isn’t good? This applies to any light armour class, it’s not just S/F ele that suffers with poor positioning and kiting.
When I see my team’s comp, I tend not to be bothered about a particular class. What I don’t want to see is class stacking of thieves or mesmers. I don’t mind having one on my team. As has been said already, a good thief can be game changing. Two thieves, however, is a serious handicap. You’re basically 2 people down in a team fight.
I also don’t particularly like having any class which has a high skill cap, because the chances are the person isn’t going to be very good at it.
So, yeah, I worry less about the class and more about the person.
[feat]
Just to clarify, I did these based on yolo q with PUGs. If I’m on a team of players I trust, I know that any class they play can be effective in team arena.
