Hey guys, I’ve only just bought this game yesterday and haven’t played it yet as I’m still deciding what role/class to play. What is the most fun profession for pvp/WvW?

Pvp and WvW are very different. WvW has zergs and havoc groups that are important.

Pvp has bunker, sustain, and glass builds.

The question you should ask yourself is how do you like to play, what kinds of mechanics do you like, and what kind of role do you like to play.

From there we can provide some insight on what you are likely to enjoy.

Thief! Roll a thief!

Seriously though I’ve played ranger, guardian, mesmer, engineer. and necro. None have been as much fun as my thief.

Warrior might be a solid alternative as they’re a pretty forgiving class for beginners in PvP. Thief has a steeper learning curve.

Whatever you do, join a guild, make some friends, and go at it together. This game, pvp especially, can become frustrating if you don’t have someone to laugh with.

After having played all classes, I’d say Necro is one of the funniest but when you get focused you are going to shed tears. Corrupting Stability and fearing people is REALLY fun.

Thief (DP) is a close second, but staying alive among all the mess of a fight is really hard and you can’t 1v1 no one unless you are WAY better than them. Definitely a class for more experienced players.

Warrior (x/Longbow) is the third, simply because you can turn off your brain and still deal insane damage and be tanky as hell. Still, it takes quite a few skillshots to be able to kill good players with a Warrior, so that’s why I prefer it to most classes.

DD Eles, Mesmers, Engis and Guardians are all quite tedious to be honest. Either that, or totally unviable or too much AI centered to be considered fun.

Multi Kit Engi is possibly the most fun thing to play. So many combos very versatile and prob has the highest skill ceiling of any Spec.

my most fun in pvp recently has been playing this glasscannon greatsword warrior, zipping around the map blowing people up!
i never click the signets and i only switch to sword/shield for getting out of a fight and travelling, so its a really simple to use build, but most importantly its FUN!

sure its not meta, but meta builds are boring.

thief is wvw roaming god.

Oh yeah, this is so freaking hard thieves can own any class at 1 v 1 in pvp and they can easily do 1 v x in WvW. You bet this is a class for experienced players XD

You ninja lovers are so freaking pathetic : you can be proud to have killed the GW1 assassin, which was a good class, nothing to compare with this faceroll kills streak for noobs that the thief of GW2 is.

I’m asking myself if I ever seen a bad thief, which means any thief player is just a pro, considering the bulls you’ve wrote ^^

You clearly don’t know how PvP works in this game.
And when I mentioned DP, I was CLEARLY referring to the trickery build. Not the shadow arts variant. This is the sPvP forums. If you’re a WvW-er, go that way →

A DP thief can NOT “own” any meta class in Spvp. It is absolutely the opposite. DP is probably the worst build for 1v1s in PVP.
But of course you don’t even know what a 1v1 is in PVP. You probably run a PU mesmer or PD thief in WvW and believe yourself to be godly good at this game #yolo.

Back on topic: the funniest class I’ve played is Shatter Mesmer. But that was a long time ago. With the current meta, the class that entertains me the most is definitely a DP trickery thief.

The title of this thread looks clear enough though, how can it be not understood by regular people ..?

Reading my post again I still don’t get what’s so wrong, are you actually suggesting regular pvp players are all pros thus play their classes perfectly ?

Since out of your mysty theorizing, what I’m actually experiencing in pvp as in wvw is thieves being very good at 1v1 in pvp, as 1vx in wvw.

Maybe you should try to actually play the game, instead of keep reading forums… you forum brawlers.

Lol no. Even if you HAVE the means to beat SOME classes, the amount of meta specs that counter DP is insane. And if you don’t get countered, you will take a lot to kill any Bunker build, that even if you win the 1v1 you will have spent so much time that you would have better done something else.
Only meta spec that can be easily beaten by a DP thief is a Shatter Mesmer. Or other thieves if you get the jump on them (but SD is way superior than DP in 1v1s).
