That and the access to protection for classes that generally are balanced around not having much protection.

Take marauder scrapper for example: HGH makes might stacking a big part of damage. Boon duration is a huge bump to this. On top of that Engineers have next to no protection and have generally been balanced around that (they have lots of blocks/invulns).

Yes.

Boon duration + extra stats, its a stronger bunker rune than pack is offensive.
Beside 25% duration bug, it is objectively overstated compared to other runes.

Boon duration plus its aoe prot and resistance. Stacks up nicely if you have multiple people on a team using them and getting the group procs.

If you think about it, it’s really just a reflection of a movement in the meta that’s been around since D/D eles:

Utilize boons to allow a build to be more offensive or defensive than it would otherwise be.

D/D eles did this with might stacking and Scrappers have been doing this with HGH might. Durability runes just allow them to also go with an offensive amulet and utilize protection to have enough damage reduction.

It’s no wonder that Mallyx revenants are doing so well. They essentially bring boon strip while also being able to run an amulet that’s more offensive than they normally could due to the defense from durability runes.

The whole concept around spvp right now is bunker… so you will see mostly everyone running around with celestial/durability to min/max stats to allow maximum bunkerage

Is it the boon duration?

Yay, you have to be careful not to be caught exploiting by doing the Durability runes + viper amulet on a Revenant, it’s such an OP combo you should feel dirty playing it.

Also, the rune is bugged to give 25% boon duration instead of 20%

On the contrary, engineer always had a lot of protection access compared to other professions, with just Protection Injection (and since it’s after a CC, you’re sure to always have your protection when you need it the most). Things have changed, but they still are among the high protection uptime classes, if you take the protection on heal trait in the Scrapper line.

Durability has a lot of advantages. First, it’s one of the only runes that offer +125 basic stats (here, +125 Vitality). The only other exemple I know of is Pack runes, and they also are very popular. It also gives +20% boon duration, which is good for builds that rely on other boons than just might (like Mallyx revenants, bunker mesmers, eles for protection, Engis for stab, protection, etc.). Last but not least, it gives Protection and Resistance on a 20s CD, which is incredibly potent, as Dahkeus mentionned.
