Hot joins are meant to be the place where you can jump in to test a build, warm up, play for fun and not worry about win/loss. It’s there for when you don’t have the time to sit down and wait for a queue or just want something laid back. Just play until you’re bored. If it makes you rage just stop playing. Losing a hot join isn’t the end of the world despite popular opinion.

Kill time until solo Q starts.
What is the point of hotjoin?
Get your pvp daily/monthly in the shortest possible time?
Hotjoin is practice. Either learning new professions or specs or becoming a better pvp player – although it doesn’t really promote the best tactics – is what hotjoin is for mainly. Also killing time before a queue pops or just some pvp without any real consequences for leavin or losing.
hotjoin is bad and should be removed, new players first encounter with spvp is hotjoin…. equals to 4v5 matches, getting stomped by skilled players and people abusing the spectator mode trick to win….
remove it and make a normal soloQ and make our current soloQ into ranked SoloQ. So we can test builds and have new players play 5v5 matches
The point of hotjoin is for players to be able to play without the commitment of arenas. You don’t have to stay in the matches. You can play for whatever time you have. Personally, I don’t hotjoin, but I don’t think it should be removed. If you remove hotjoin, you’ll just have people in Solo Arena complaining about the influx of weak players, since there’s nowhere for them to effectively practice.

This is correct and any new game mode we get will need to fit the ~15min 5v5 hotjoin accessible standard.
Back in the days it was to have fun time PvPing.
Today’s time, things changed. One for instance, normal hotjoin arenas are 5v5. Another thing, getting rank isn’t primarily based on how well you do, its mostly based on whether you win or lose.
Due to recent changes, hotjoins is primarily a place to get ready for arena, and focus on winning.
Its not about the fun time anymore.
I agree that if you remove hot join, all the same hotjoin people will be in SoloQ fooling around aimlessly as they do now in hotjoin.
There is already way too much of that in SoloQ as it is. You need somewhere for them to mess around. And the wait for SoloQ helps keep them out of the SoloQ matches.

Okay, I get it is a totally not a serious mode. But I am confused that hotjoin allows you to progress and get glory points. Progress should be rewarded for skill. But the hotjoin system I have experienced is being abused to gain glory points faster and certainly doesn’t require skill.
As for testing builds… I found that very difficult. Because I am constantly outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1. Or I avoid my opponents completely, but then I can’t test my builds. Often when I am fighting one guy, one or two guys from the other team jump me.
From my point of view the hotjoin system can not accomplish what its supposed to do…
Chronomancy works, I am proof of it. Now stop asking me questions. Time must be preserved!
I think hotjoin is for people who aren’t very “endowed” to make themselves feel better about that.
And for people to practice flaming map chat and whisp/block flaming. Its the very definition of a toxic community.
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
Rank was never intended to be a representation of skill level. It is merely a representation of experience. Hotjoin is experience. The difference in difficulty and skillful play is represented by the decreased rank point reward between hotjoin and arenas.

Cool, I just had a run of several hotjoin games, trying out dhuum fire necro (didn’t like it, went back to terrormancer). It was an amazing experience. All players were fair, no one changed sides, ppl were friendly and exchanged tips on how to do stuff. The last game I was in was a super close match with 500 to 480 ot smth like that. It was awesome.
That clearly shows to me that even with this flawed hotjoin system it can still be fun, if not everyone is greedy for glory points… I hope I’ll have more of those kinda games.
Thx to the “always” invissible Mesmer, the S/D thief I never could hurt even remotely, the ranger who always pushed me back in the worst moments, the thief, who avenged his own death by slaughtering me like a pig and all the others. Sry, I forgot your names

As Silentshoes says, if you take away the rewards for Hotjoin, all that will do is push the newbies/leechers/IPHIW! types into Solo Queue, making it that much worse. Better that Hotjoin remain so that players who don’t care about winning and just want to do Dailies/farm Glory/have fun have somewhere to go where they won’t bother the pro PvP players.
Testing new builds.
correct.
More like to test how well your build holds up in 3v5 or 4v5 matches.
unfortunately, this is also correct. nowadays, teams are often not balanced in hotjoin.

yup, this is pretty much what hotjoin is all about, casual sPvP. however, experienced players stacking on one team steam rolling the other team with less experience players is not very healthy though.
Kill time until solo Q starts.
aye, this is true as well. it was better last time when glory / rank points were awarded as players participated though, not until the end of the match.
What is the point of hotjoin?
Get your pvp daily/monthly in the shortest possible time?
this is partially true, monthly 6,000 rank points is done fastest via team arena though. 4 wins in team arena will settle the monthly rank points.
the 20 monthly wins however, hotjoin would be fastest.

well, it does allow the player to practice their mechanical skills of playing their profession.
hotjoin is bad and should be removed, new players first encounter with spvp is hotjoin…. equals to 4v5 matches, getting stomped by skilled players and people abusing the spectator mode trick to win….

this is extremely incorrect.
also, very self centered, selfish way thinking.
hotjoin have its fair share of problems, and it is caused by players such as yourself. players who demand that hotjoin to be removed. now that you mention it, i shall go and start a new topic to demonize you lot.

yup, the main feature of hotjoin is the ability to drop in and leave any time. that should not change.

This is correct and any new game mode we get will need to fit the ~15min 5v5 hotjoin accessible standard.
unfortunately, we have yet to see any new game modes apart from conquest 5 vs 5 though.
Back in the days it was to have fun time PvPing.

aye, good old hotjoin 8 vs 8 can be messy, but it is fun nonetheless.
back then, people were actually trying to kill each other, and not constantly using the spectator mode auto balance to balance the teams.
I agree that if you remove hot join, all the same hotjoin people will be in SoloQ fooling around aimlessly as they do now in hotjoin.
There is already way too much of that in SoloQ as it is. You need somewhere for them to mess around. And the wait for SoloQ helps keep them out of the SoloQ matches.
sadly, there are still some selfish people who thinks that removing hotjoin will make their solo arena games experience better.

glory points is removed, you must be referring to rank points.
rewards track progress in hotjoin has a daily limit, once that limit is reach, reward tracks will no longer progress. that is why people are complaining about the influx of “lesser skilled” players in solo arena.
true casual players like me who only play 3 games of hotjoin per day would not be affected by the hotjoin daily reward tracks limit though.
as for rank points, the amount of rank points from participating in hotjoin is very, very small when compared against solo arena and team arena.
looking on the bright side, at least you get to test your 1 vs 2, 1 vs 3 bunker builds.
yup, justin once told me that they wanted the players to learn (5 vs 5 conquest) the game.
well i can agree that some players do learn how to play 5 vs 5 conquest properly after the removal of 8 vs 8 servers, but i think, for the many PvE players who just want to progress reward tracks faster, i think they only learned how to use spectator mode and auto balance to their advantage.
so yeah, the current hotjoin failed at teaching the players how to play 5 vs 5 conquest mode.
I think hotjoin is for people who aren’t very “endowed” to make themselves feel better about that.
And for people to practice flaming map chat and whisp/block flaming. Its the very definition of a toxic community.
what do you mean by your first sentence? could you elaborate it more in detail?
as for flaming map chat, whisper block flaming etc, i heard (read in forums) that it happens more frequently in solo arena. not so much in hotjoin.
i.e. in terms of toxic community, solo arena is probably much more toxic than hotjoin.
Rank was never intended to be a representation of skill level. It is merely a representation of experience. Hotjoin is experience. The difference in difficulty and skillful play is represented by the decreased rank point reward between hotjoin and arenas.
yup.
lose in hotjoin = 200 rank points
win in hotjoin = 500 rank points
lose in team arena = 500 rank points
win in team arena = 1500 rank points
is this one of the reasons why more people are queuing solo in team arena?
Cool, I just had a run of several hotjoin games, trying out dhuum fire necro (didn’t like it, went back to terrormancer). It was an amazing experience. yup, this is why i still play hotjoin.
once in a while, we get some good sportsmanship players together and everyone can have good old fun.
As Silentshoes says, if you take away the rewards for Hotjoin, all that will do is push the newbies/leechers/IPHIW! types into Solo Queue, making it that much worse. Better that Hotjoin remain so that players who don’t care about winning and just want to do Dailies/farm Glory/have fun have somewhere to go where they won’t bother the pro PvP players.
aye, this.
unfortunately, certain players still believe that removing hotjoin will improve their solo arena games.
Free world, you could have anything you want.
hotjoin is a good training camp when i want to play a new class or also a new build very different from the ones i am used to . If i learn in Tqueue or in Squeue it is not correct for other players
A place where you can play in your own time and quit when you’ve had enough – no waiting, no dishonoured, no worry about win or loss (you can still go for it of course), no ranks, no leaderboard, no pressure, no monetary loss on food or consumables.
Get in, do whatever you like – try and help a weaker team to victory, spend the entire match duelling in a corner, try out or run into weird builds.
A place to bypass most conquest bullkitten. It always makes me laugh when players start getting worked up in chat about cap points and rotations in hotjoin – at the end of the day the only thing that matters is you had fun during the match – whether fighting some good players or whatever. Winning or losing conquest really isn’t that important in hotjoin, because the only penalty for losing is a few less rank points.
The only problem since 8v8 was removed is unbalanced teams – spectator mode and free team switching. This is the biggest problem with hotjoin, often turning a match into a boring one sided landslide. I hope this problem can be sorted soon, so that it can resume being the fun casual pvp mode it should be. Let “pro conquest players” keep to their arenas.

And yes, as shocking as it sounds, even in hotjoin you do occasionally get some good fun matches like this.
