I have my opinions on pvp but I would like to here the community’s and maybe the dev’s opinion on the matter of the current state of pvp and the Meta atm. I would also like to know what needs to be buffed and nerfed and why? Atm I only really see mesmers, thieves, and eles every time I que for a match. so WHY?

No. Burn is the current meta. Takes no skill and does crazy damage. Cover with a couple other conditions and a condi clear is pretty useless.

Thieves are pretty useless except in a top team
Mesmers are second strongest behind dd ele.

I personally think PvP is in one of the best state it’s ever been, with more good builds than ever.

However, D/D elementalists is OP and rangers are UP. Burning is OP on elementalists only, though people don’t know how to handle burn builds in lower tiers. Vamp runes are stupid. Mesmer is fine with the exception of stealth abuse. Warriors are one the weak side and mostly saved by the OP-ness of rampage. Thieves have lost diversity.
I think build diversity could still be increased, but if you watch ESL, it’s hard to see any team with the same comp (except they all have about 2 elementalists)

I do not know about them but my pvp experience in this game is fun and nasty. I play thief which fun to play with and the beauty of trait system in this game is awsome, you can choose which role you wanna play with the help of different weapon set, runes and sigils which is by far the best. Though you might see some bias against other class profession mostly in 1v1scene cos they think going mainstream is the key which i dislike and against with. Long story short game is becoming a Koreanmmorpg and they really like it cos of this 1v1 bias.

And sometimes you’ll see a lot of balance guru crying about this and that please ignore them they dont know what are they doing, as for ingame kindly ignore those savages you’ll encounter cos they lack values and manners.
Please play conquest.

I think it’s in one of the more balanced states it’s been in for a long time….and fun at the same time.

If you’re going to listen to someone claiming something is OP/UP get them to back it up with a reasoned argument with comparisons and proof. Otherwise be prepared for a lot of people coming in here making a lot of baseless crying.

I would say that there’s a lot going well with PvP:
– There’s a good variety of viable builds
– Guardians can actually run condi and do well now
– Mesmers are no longer thief food
– The current most OP build (D/D ele) has a high skill cap (lots of cooldowns and hybrid role)

However, from a balance perspective, D/D eles are really way overtuned. The best example of this was the 4 ele, 1 thief team that won ESL not long ago. It’s generally really rare to see much class stacking in any tournament in this game, so having 4 of the same class actually doing this well is really worrisome. (Case in point: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Team_-_Overskill)

Well with the recent Free to Play move, seems there are a good number of new players trying out sPvP, which is good.

Meta wise, not terrible but not great. D/D cele Ele needs a few good nerfs to be sure.

I’m not sure, can you, umm…. do that again? ROM – 2015

“Good variety of builds”
Only things I see are D/D eles, cele and MM necros, burn and bunker guards, pewpew or trap rangers, PU condi/power mesmers, D/P thieves who’s mist form triggers in two seconds, rampage warriors and soldier engis. 75% of the builds I see are something bunkerish with usually lots of condis or abusing burn

Also in 80% of games I play there’s always someone leaving, either before the start or one minute after. The state of this game mode doesn’t seem really great to me

Well it is difficult to judge the balance as d/d ele is simply on top of everything.

Warrior and engi are not weak but again ele is just better in most situations.

Same goes for ranger: quite stromg after the specialisation patch- ask good players if you got told else in the forums (difficult to play if you dont go with Lb/Gs). If you want a ranger to work in your teamsetup you have to adapt a bit though.

Mesmer is on the upper end aswell but not as broken as some people think.

Necro is fairly balanced just as guardian is.

Coming to the most obvious thing: ele is broken. Period.
Pay to much burning applicatipn without efford overshades the concept of being versatile but not shining in every aspect.
If they would half the burning stacks you get in fire we can talk again.

But the biggest problem of PvP, as it is now, is not the balance but more the reward and progress structure wich is little motivating if you dont play with friends/ a team.

Hope I was able to help.

Let me clarify the “Good variety of builds” statement. I mean this in relative to previous metas. There will always be “best” builds for each profession that overshadow the rest and that’s certainly been the case in the past.

There are some professions who have benefited more from the last big patch than others in terms of build variety. Guardians, for example, are big winners since they can go bunker, medi, or burn when in the past they were either bunker only or bunker and medi. Thieves, on the other hand, are in a worse spot since they’re basically stuck with D/P trickery as the only really good build (S/D got nerfed hard with the 6/23 patch).

So, I’d say it’s good, even if it’s not great.

Thieves don’t seem that useless. Just played a game where a 2 thief duo went around nuking our entire team 1 by 1. If you tried to roam, even with 2 people, you were dead because when you try to retaliate they just stealth and run away, wait for initiative to recharge, and nuke you again.

As far as the current meta, seems to be that matchmaking is a total mess. That is the meta.

disclaimer I main a non PU condi shatter Mesmer in PvP and a Venom Share thief in PVE.

MY current pet peeve, ( for years now), is LB/Gs Ranger with hound and wolf pet. It simply does way too much damage and CC. The really frustrating part is that they can do it while out of range of my skills.

Rangers have frequent stealth and can attack when not in LOS, (using [barrage] and the pet.), these are two complaints leveled at PU Mesmers.

I don’t play Ranger much because I feel bad when my pet gets hurt. Still, killing the pets will take the edge off a ranger. The pets do almost nothing to defend themselves.

With the shatter nerfs, thieves are a big threat again. They aren’t a guaranteed death for me like before.. but still very much have the upper hand.

Guardians are annoying. Fights with them usually stalemate and drag on until one or the other of us gets +1’d.

Warriors… They can do a lot of damage in a big hurry and move fast. Still, I can go into a fight knowing I have a reasonable chance.

Necros.. don’t even get me started on necros. Condition builds like mine will probably lose unless I can +1 a fight and snipe them. I can beat an MM Necro.

Engi, I can usually beat an Engi. I approach with caution but confident.

A staff Ele makes a good target. A d/d Ele is a tough fight but if I can dodge or block the [Ride the Lightning] rush I may get them.

PU Mesmer? That’s a fight I don’t enjoy. I lose a bit more often than I win.

Like a few others, I believe the balance in PvP is close to the best its ever been. Every class has access to viable builds right now and balance across the board isn’t perfect but is close for the majority of classes.

I also think D/D ele, as well as Condi PU mesmer, are probably just a hair overtuned. I wouldn’t gut these classes, I would simply make small changes to their individual skills over a series of patches to see how it effected their play ability.

I think most complaints on burning and conditions are people having difficulty adjusting to a mechanic that until now had been largely irrelevant in the game. Its ok for your build to get hard countered by something, that is simply rock-paper-scissors design. I think how often people get hard countered by a specific spec leads them to a false bias that other players are struggling against that spec as much as they are.

PvP is as tight as it ever has been.

There isn’t really any stage I go down where I can’t either point to a specific few mistakes or I’m outnumbered.

Being very familiar with the game and it’s mechanics helps, I suppose.

Additionally, Ele is getting a shave for the HoT release, which is the only build currently legitimately considered ever so slightly too powerful. And even then, it is only vs burst builds.

Personally, I am very impressed with ANet

1: unbalanced. (only considering meta build of balance is absurd; consider all builds when talking balance, and here it is woefully broken balance wise. even more so when considering GvG with those premises)
2: therefore pvp dying, which equals people leaving, which equals pve slowly dying, due to no endgame to do (pve is always limited in games, even though it can be very fun).
3:too narrow in its current scope (due to the balance properly).
4:boring to play, meaning you don’t really feel the awesome clutch moments. and you do not feel that it is truly rl skillbased; aka do x build or handicap yourself (balance again).
5:GvG unless tank build you die instantly (TTK system needed as well for GvG to insure fun GvG play for all role/builds)

think it could all be fixed+- with a good TTK system. which i would love to see save gw2, but sadly i doubt it will happy. one can hope right hehe
