What match making?
sPvP rank really means nothing other than you’ve farmed a lot of hotjoins. Match making is done using the hidden MMR which is also what the leaderboard ranks are based off. A low ranked team can get a high rating if they’ve won a streak of matches without losing, which then pits them against higher rated and ranked teams. It’s not a perfect system, but as your match proves, either your premade works well together to get a high rating game, or those r40 guys have a deservedly low rating. You’d naturally expect high ranked players to be better, and therefore have better ratings, but that’s far from the case.

this, SPvP rank isnt a prove of skill, its just a hint that someone spend some time playing it… good player who plays with his team can be good even with low rank
i know rank 20’s that i have played with that are seemingly far better and derserve their higher hidden mmr than some 40-50 rank players.
You had a close battle. This proofs that the match making is really working.
Imagine you would fight against lower skilled player with lower rank. The fight would end 500:146. No fun for both sides.
1. it was quite a close game
2. difference in ranks i not that big, you didn’t get any complete newbie under rank 10
3. you won because of your team compositions, easy with heavy bunkering
4. four kills and 1 objective neutralized on ele is not impressive at all, I guess you got better players in your team, or the enemies were indeed hotjoin heroes
Matchmaking will be bad until they find a way to split solo queue
