So I just had 5 games in a row were I got 2 pips (won all 5). Usualy they were 5 man teams and Im solo queuing. Ive won a fair share of the games with 500 to 100-300 and they were all 2 pips. So what qualifies as a 3 pip win?

As i conceive that just if your team has a really unlike chance to win a game and you still win without technical issues (disconnect, worth ping..) or social issues (players decide to give up during the matches, have some agreement with there opponents because they are still friends and so on..) on both teams.

Extreme Sample: Like a full day one PvP Player Team beats some of the Devisions above with many played games.

Realistic Sample: A Team with weak classes or Builds, beat a Team with popular established Meta-Builds.

I am not sure but i think that when every one in your team beat and master a lot 1vs2 fights, this will increase your chances tor ern more.

You never see so much 3 pips wins because the system try to avoid it and keep it rarely.

But the variety of scores I’ve gotten that resulted in a 2 pip wins makes it almost seem like they removed 3 pips. I also don’t think builds factor at all in wether you get a specific amount of pips. If that were true I’d be running some random bullkitten build since this game is not about winning but staying on points and decapping undefended ones stealthly.

According to the recently updated wiki matchmaking article, to get 3 pips you have to win a match that the system predicted you having over an 80% chance of losing. As for why they’re so rare, I would guess that the system doesn’t actually put you in matches you have over an 80% chance to lose unless there simply aren’t enough people in queue for a fairer matchup. I’ve seen had 2 3 pip wins so far this season, but I mostly play off hours, so that might have something to do with it.

Ähm since start of the season i got about 4 wins with 3 pips .
The wins where very different as a 5 man premade , as solo , as duo and so on .
I couldnt say what is needed to gain 3 pips.

got 3pips by defeating sapphire full premade when I was emerald. They abused MMR rank and they lost 500-100 or so. then I reported all of them. though I had 3pips…

This was the only game that ever gave me three pips. I’m guessing it has to do with the other team being extremely heavily favored to win.

I think the ‘magic equation’ for the third pip comes from all of the above mentioned contingencies being met, on top of your “weaker” team managing to come back from a detriment. I was hating life in the second-to-last tier with 2 pips to go on a 1:3 WL rollercoaster back closer to 50% again, in yet another match where the balance was just epic and we were getting rolled. Got frustrated at like 70-120, and just started hammering the far node. The enemy team kept stacking their bunker ele and a ranger (not druid) on me, allowing my team to gain 4v3 advantage. I stuck it out on far, ended up with a score of only like 90 and with a couple deaths, we won and viola, got 3 pips. We did not gain the lead until after both teams had broken 300, so I can only assume that the third pip came from being the weaker team coming back to win from behind.

I think that there is just the MMR System that don’t care about stuff out there, it just analyze mathematical the playing, behavior and gamers history.

So there are Metabuilds and there are set of classes in one team that have a higher chance of beating, because that gives you or your team an advatage.

3 Pips are not easy to create or exploit because if someone want to the system will adjust.

You could be right and your build have nothing to do with this, or just a very little part. So the run of the matchmake could be more important, how often toggle the capture points, how often your team take and loose lead, how often you or your team mates gona killed and respawn.

I think that you got a clue if you watch these statistics, which maybe are hide inside the system. Like your team die more often.. and still hold more points. A Game deserve the 3 pips if you watch at the statistics and think: What the… how could they win this?!

Like if you got smashed till 400 points and your team still win. I am sure thats some kind of.. and some kind of the premate/preparation the system do to scheduling you into a hard to beat game.

I don’t think the system is complicated enough to give more pips if a team came back from behind. I think the amount of pips won/lost is predetermined when the match up is made.
