Q:
What's Wrong with 2 Thieves in Team
Because thieves have a very limited role in conquest. They can distract by going far and maybe gank in an ongoing 1v1 scenario, but otherwise they die when they get sneezed on.
It’s like having 2 Phalanx Strength Warriors in PvE, it’s redundant and you could put another class/build there. Having one is really great but if you take two you’ll sacrifice a slot where a different class would work better.
Thieves bring good burst and decent control but lack boon support.
This means your best off filling the space with another class.
That being said if your group is extremely well coordinated 2 thieves working together can work.
Mainly because they bring enough burst that 2 of them working together can down & finish someone before they realized WTF happened.
Yeah, ask anyone that knows higher level pvp strats and they’d say that in a teamfight, D/P thieves are the best targets to focus. Sure they can escape and burst down weakened targets/zerks in a teamfight, but they die very easily making thieves the best target to focus first if possible. They shine in smaller fights for sure, but they can’r keep a point from being decapped against a cele ele/necro or a zerker war.
S/D thieves aren’t focused as immediately because they are a bit harder to lockdown with the evades, but they also don’t have as much burst, so they’re less of a priority to focus compared to D/P.
In general having multiple thieves is bad because it stacks you with multiple professions that can’t sustain in teamfights. They can do other things really well, and are great for plus 1-ing smaller fights, but having too many of them isn’t a good composition. Also, I feel like mantra mesmer outclasses thief a bit right now, since they have comparable burst and CC but much better teamsupport (portal, time warp/moa, AoE mantra heals/cleanses, powerblock mantra lock spikes is better than trickery thief and panic strike steal spikes). Still a thief is a bit better at personal mobility, disengaging, and 1v1s than mesmer is, but the utility that they bring along with the damage makes them stronger in my opinion.
Still I’d much rather have two good thieves on a team than 2 bad-average engis or rangers or whatnot. Especally power rangers, since most of them spam their skills and can’t even kite properly, so they instadie.

It’s not only thieves. 2 of anything is bad except D/D or staff bunker ele’s in this meta. But in solo Q everything works, if some1 tells you to swap classes in a solo Q you can tell them to go kitten themselves.
1. very little to no contribution in team fights. winning those are huge as it leaves the rest of their team outnumbered = securing home, mid and easy far decap.
2. cant cap while on stealth. counter intuitive to capture game mode
3. most are bad awful
Because most thieves are terrible. Honestly, if I could have an option that said don’t pair me with a thief, I’d do it.
Unless the person is a top end thief, they are pretty much only good for killing really low skill players.
1 is bad enough on a team. 2 is auto loss most of the time.
This is not a meta where thief is really strong. Or At least, if you want to make the difference with a thief, you need to be really really good (basically a top thief).
I mean, thief has always insane mobility and stealth but honestly is the only reason they can play in tournament. D/p is the only viable build but there is too much kitten around thief now, too op stuff. Mesmers have great chance against you, guardians can make you an insane pressure with instant and passive stuff, Elementalist….is broken. And we want to talk about the new rampage with low cd + 30% damage? Basically one mistake and u’re dead.
You have a super little mistake window, or you are only a pain for your entire team.
To clarify this, i’m not complaining about thief, i think it has now a really high skill cap to play correctly in conquest and is fine (probably anet should add more build diversity to thief). It’s more about kitten around him.

The only thing keeping a thief in the game right now is the mobility.
If you have one already you don’t need another to decap far due to a thief’s glaring problems.
1. Extremely weak 1v1…like worst in game
2. Not the best burst
3. Survivability at an all time low
So there ya,have it

- Other classes offer better support / AoE damage / cc
It takes more work to rotate 2 thieves between conquest points.

Short answer is thief is bad in equal XvX fights, but is super good at +1 ing fights.
So 1 thief has been a no way around must for any team since forever, 2x thieves just try do same one thing and one gets stuck in equal fight or insta dies and noone can rezz or u cant hold any nodes.
It is probably the worst 2x classes stacking combo u can get, even tho stuff like necro/rangers are trash tier compared to thief.
