Hi. I am a former GW2 spvper, who quit roughly around December after spvp consisted 3 teams dominating a paid tourney that would pop roughly twice or three times a night.

I am now finished a whole pile of work, and keen to get back on something, so thought to myself, why not see if GW2 has picked up it’s act yet.

So, simply, before I download the entire game again, what is the state of tournament pvp currently. Has it improved / what has changed?

Quite a few changes are happening on the 30th including balance.
Should be great except for one thing.

Now now, what have we learned about getting our hopes up?

Though I admit, I’d really like to see this be the patch where things start turning around for PvP. Custom Arenas and Spectator mode are hugely promising, even though we’re only getting beta versions, and what will happen with balance is anyone’s guess. It seems like the patch is going to be a big step in the right direction, but based on the way things have gone with almost every PvP patch since release, I’m reserving judgment until I actually see the changes.

There are no more tournaments.

Tournaments are now one team verse one team instead of the whole 8 team deal.
The population is smaller though so there can be delays or times when your fighting the same groups over and over, especially outside of prime time.

Short of the new kittenty leaderboard no one cares about… nothing else has really changed.
Custom arenas are starting their beta on the 30th, but so far seem to be an utter disapointment by what has been released about them…
(replacing hotjoins, can blacklist/whitelist players, tweak respawn timers, make it private, allow spectating, cost real life money to set up and keep up)

Yeah, tournaments are more like 5v5 hot join now. It’s sad that it had to come to that. Considering the reasons you left , you will likely enjoy SPVP alot now and with the custom arenas and spectator mode inc. There ain’t been a better time to come back.

It’s far from perfect however.

It’s slightly better now. Tournaments are only 1 round and you fight someone with similar rating than your team. You earn rating by winning, you lose it if defeated. Tournaments are available 24/7

Hopefully, next week (introducing custom & spectator) it will get better
