What's up with PVP?
The matchmaking crapped the bed really hard recently and no one but Anet knows why. As you’ve experienced it leads to well balanced and very fun matches.
Judging losing streaks by things like mesmer and thief isn’t healthy. You can be the greatest player in the world (Hellseth claims it lol), but if you get paired with a team who cannot win team fights, or teams that can shut you down from decapping them often then it can turn into losing streaks.
I main engineer. Played it at the beginning of the game (not spvp doe). Didn’t touch it again until just a little before the celestial buff. What I notice is that the large majority of games I win is rotating properly and being the biggest nuisance I can be to create 1vX scenarios for myself so my team gets better chances at winning their team fights.
I also think blaming noobs for losses is the wrong approach. Figuring out how to be the best player you can be is the right one. Sure, we might all get noobs on teams. But if you’re making that as an excuse when you’re not at the top tier yet yourself, you’re giving yourself a free pass for bad plays you make.
the problem with thief and mesmer is just the one Sobe points out. you cannot hold a point and rely on your team to do it for you, plus you are an easy kill if you not that good. i no longer queue with my thief, and will only solo with builds that can hold a point and have good team support. it’s like the saying goes, if you wan’t something doin’ right do it yourself. if i had a spell that got thieves to switch to shoutbow i would use it nearly every match. builds that help your team win teamfights and wipe the enemy team are very powerful, and i see far too few of them and far too many full glass builds.
currently a Boyfriend main :P
Waiting To ReRoll Mystic & Forget About Tyria
All you say is valid, but not for such a streak. Also when I had that streak I had most times at least one mesmer and at least one thief or both in the enemy team.
So I played a bit with 2 friends and basically won 3 or 4 matches in a row. Now a couple of days later I decided to do some PvP matches again and now I lost 8-10 matches in a row.
How is that possible?
You got carried by your 2-3 friends. Won a lot. Your MatchMakingRating (MMR) got heavily inflated. Then when you yoloq alone, you are out of your league and drag your team down to lose 8-10 in a row.
Alternatively, u might have gotten lucky/unlucky.

8-10. And nope it’s statistically highly unlikely that if i was bad i was the only bad in every match.
I’d like to touch on another side story regarding the matchmaking. That is the points you get based on your participation in the match.
As SobeSoul pointed out there is the very ungrateful, yet viable role of being the point harrasser when you do your best to get their attention and stall for time when fighting outnumbered so the rest of the team can use the advantage you made for them. Unless you have godly skills or enemies are that bad, it ends with a flag sticking out of your gut and 0 points from the player contribution system for your effort.
The same can be said about people who defend their points. My reward for successfully defending a point are points for killing the assaulter at best, or nothing at all if he escapes and i decide not to pursue as my goal is to safeguard the point, not run around map after one guy.
At the end of a match, guy who did the heaviest lifting (fighting outnumbered) or took the most boring, but sometimes very vital role (guarding a point) looks like a noob to his team that only made them drag their feet.
I find this very upsetting and unacceptable.

For some reason when I solo queue, besides engineers, that most common classes appear to be glass cannon Rangers and Mesmers. I understand the popularity of Engineers as they are arguably the strongest class in the game. However wtf with all the rangers and mesmers. They are both at the very low end of the effectiveness scale right now now and pretty high on skill level to not die awfully in a team fight against decent players yet the noobs love them. It hurts matches a lot. Ive actually tried to fool the matcher by queueing with a ranger and switching to bunker guardian during start up and several times I was put in with two other rangers plus a mesmer anyway lol.
