I got hammered last night by a power shatter mez. This person must have been near ESL quality. Her/his shatters and sequences were near perfect.

After the fight I asked for tips on how to play better. That player brusquely refused. Of course, they were within there rights to do so, but it got me thinking.

I propose that ESL players do an in-game “camp.” It’s said that the best way to learn is to teach, so those players might benefit too.

Professionals in many fields hold camps to teach skills to others.

It would need one of more players who are able to be graceful. The result would perhaps be an increased connection with the PvP community.

Who knows? ESL might even gain fans or improve it’s image. The community at large might grow in skill too.

How about it, pros? Kitten, I’ll even pay gold to come to class.

First, you being hammered by someone does not automatically put him at ESL level. He could be just another good player out there.

Second, it is not ESL players’ responsibility to teach everyone else. There are quite a few ESL players already helping the community. But you can’t expect every one of them to be nice

There is no reason too. There is no leader boards, ranked seasons needed to separate people so only a few people got unique gear/titles/anything. This is the most casual PvP scene ive ever been in and the other games i played didnt even have ESL or PvP leagues. The players in those games cared more about there gear, build set up, style of play and it was just for them being able to say they are good. Anet has made everything to casual for anyone to care.

This game needs to create a reason for people to actually PvP.

there are many good players out there which dont care about esl
esl is also around rotation movement and tactics. not just skill rotations.

i have suggested in past thread that anet will grant some benefit to players who “teach” others
like when playing with low rank players, or voting for 1 player after game ends etc…
those players can get points for title, gold, icon of scholar, armor of scholar and many more to show their prestige
it might push more ppl to share their wisdom around pvp…..

there is no reason to get better at this game’s pvp since HoT’s release and seeing how toxic the community in PvP has become.

honestly just from what ive seen you post i dont think you are in tune enough with this game to know what “perfect timing and skill rotations are”

you can only go so far on your own. You eventually hit a wall that requires you to work WITH VOICE COMMS WITH A TEAM.

gw2 isn’t a moba and shouldnt of introduced ESL in the 1st place.

If anet wanted to do it right, there should be Solo and team leaderboards/ and not make everything so kittening casual.

I don’t mind teaching other eles how to ele, I can just about out-rotate any ele I go up against bc I’ve been pvping on ele that long. Hillary can’t do it, I can.

There was this one time though, I’m not the type to be “oh, I carried everyone im so gud gg” I just do my thing, it works most of the time- well I continously stomped this one ele over and over, I felt terrible so to keep my teammates from harassing this ele, I made sure I was the only one who did, maybe them watching me would help the other ele learn something. There were so many times I could tell you I felt like crap tearing up inexperienced elementalists. But, something about this one just made me go “Okay, I’m going to help this little guy.”

After the match I whispered him/her and asked if they’d like some help with rotations- it turns out she was completely new, literally jsut came from WoW to GW2 and she chose ele bc there was no weapon swapping much like WoW. It took about a week, she got the hang of it and I taught her on every weapon set ele had, rotations and all- she still couldnt beat me on my ele but could on some of my other classes and I made sure not to butter her up either or go easy. this was when the 1st ranked pvp season started, I didn’t see her forever and I didnt care and forgot- this last season she whispered me and I saw her pvp rank, it was diamond and she wanted me to teach her friends but I said no

Honestly, I would love to see an initiative like this.
It would definitely help create a closer (and less toxic) community of players and make the game more fun as a whole.

I can’t claim to be a professional, but I did get to division 6 in 2/4 seasons and diamond last( I just stopped caring), but I can help with most classes if y’all are on NA.

I mean, the whole point of gold is to buy cosmetics in-game, and if those helping are that good then we probably have quite a few already. I would be willing to help just to help.

Lettuce was kind enough to coach me as a healbot ele and it got me enough wins to finally get my wings at the end of S4.

I’m 100% sure there are is a population that could benefit from this.

the problem with mentorship programs is that there are many players that want to mentor and few that want to be taught.

Most players simply assume that they are already good and don’t need improvement.

Most of the people who would be interested would need to put time in to get good enough to fully benefit from such an initiative. Not just queuing. How many people do you think record their own gameplay or practice matchups they lose? When people go out of their way to improve, I’ll frequently help them. However, most of the people who ask haven’t put in any effort on their own. I’m not going to put more effort into improving someone than they do for themselves.

I’ll tell you what: To set an example I will start videoing and reviewing my matches and looking for a way to practice against the classes I do most poorly against.

As a lead by example thing I’ll start tonight.
