I for my part shave daily, thus I interpreted this metaphor which was used a fair time ago, that ANet will attempt to introduce many, but smaller, balance tweaks, over regular and shortish intervals, rather than large revisions every few months
This would also greatly enhance the capability of the PvP team (?) to respond to individual trouble makers, since there would be a much smaller change catalog to tackle with each update.
However we have seen the exact opposite to that. Or I’d rather say not the exact opposite but the inverse, with smaller or medium tweaks over a excruciatingly long time period.
So has shaving been abandoned? What is the state of the balancing process 2014?

Shaving took too much work so they decided to use the axe instead once in a blue moon.

shaving was useless anyway,
seeing anet tickle hambow for 8 months with unnoticeable nerfs was just embarrassing.
finally they’ve thought “ah screw it” and given up completely.

It took that much time because Anet’s balance patches became incredibly scarce.

Shaving works nice in 2-weekly balance patches, which they could do if, for example, shaving came at every living story patch.

It because they hasn’t been any major patch since april 15. I suspect all changes IF there is any will start july 1. They made it pretty clear that they will be a break from all content patches, the currently LS doesn’t count since it just a festival with little no major change in content. Yes, balance patches is considered content it is either festival, content or feature patch. I do think they are givng people a chance to unlock everything but more importantly, I think they are trying to buff the new traits.

AS to your question, I don’t remember Arenanet saying they would be doing more balance patches, just shaving as needed and they hasn’t been a reason to do any major shaving since the feature patch, especially given the changes to runes. And considering the next tournament is not until the end of July, there is no point.

This is how anet operated in gw1, they never really change their approach. They simply smoke screen or lie to make the community happy or have some form of hope.

I really dislike the “shaving” metaphor, because shaving implies that there are a number of problems that are growing over time, and thus a shave is required to trim down said problems, when the real solution should be more akin to pulling the weeds out by the root and ending the problems for good.

ANet don’t shave, they neckbeard.

Then after 8 months they trim it, but it’s still a neckbeard.

ALL IS VAIN.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.

Shaving was boring…

So now they destroy with a chainsaw, just to make sure anything half decent/interesting is utterly nerfed to completely useless.

Ironic, considering how they had a few devs leave over the years coming up to gw2. Yet they used “a chainsaw” approach in guildwars 1 aswell. Wonder if it’s company policy to nerf hammer particular in game mechanics, traits, classes, etc into oblivion (or at least attempt to). Then over buff w/e is servery under powered to try and compensate for what they took away.

I for sure know it’s company policy to recycle w/e they can from either gw1 or even particular sound effects or npcs within gw2.

Are you serious? They would have to release balance patches in order to nerf something to completely useless. At their current rate of 1 balance patch every 6 months, you have nothing to worry about.
