When to leave hotjoins and start solo Q?
I want to say congratulations for not effing somebody’s soloQ matches since matchmaking is broken and people who are barely getting into pvp get matched with only 1 good player vs other 4 good players anyways I think you can practice a little more try to 1v1 people watch gw2pvptv twitch channel and learn you will know when youre ready your heart will guide you through it and will tell you when you can do it <3
Every day is a good day to switch from hotjoins to solo queue.
Seriously, don’t let people worrying about “noob teammates” stop you. The way to be useful in solo queue is:
—Say hello to your teammates at the start of the match
—Play a good build with a clearly-defined role (roamer, bunker, or teamfight dps mainly, although there are others)
—Never stay in a pointless fight (e.g. people aren’t dying fast and you aren’t in control of the capture points). This one is hard—I’ve had to leave teammates to die because they’re simply in the wrong place. Some people call you a noob, but you do what you have to.
Seriously though, just give them a try. The matchmaker has some serious flaws atm but anything’s better than hotjoin.
Hi there, I am a “casual” player that mostly does PvE in all games, but I realy, realy, realy want to get into sPvP (and WvW once I upgreade my computer). I’ve played some games as ranger and recently I am trying realy hard with elementalist.
Dont play elementalist until it gets buffed.
Dont feed rallys to the enemy team and best dont die at all without being useless uber bunker spamming autoattack from max range.
Dont play at absurd times when no one else on your MMR plays (like 9 o clock am)
There you go now youre ready for soloq.
The quality of players is better overall, but at rank 10 you will probably lose a few matches just by being outplayed. Doesnt matter though at least youll start getting a feel for correct movement and positioning on the map (hopefully)

Bolded for emphasis. +1 for the comment in general.

Everything in this post is correct, but I have to quote this part because it is one of the hardest things to do once you get caught in a fight. You HAVE to follow this advice though.
Unstable Shield, Unstable Light
I suggest you practice in 5v5 hotjoin, those 8v8 are too zergy to learn. You can move to soloq once you feel comfortable with your own profession and know how to combat against other professions.

Do whatever you think is fun Don’t worry about everyone else.
Highest Solo Queue Rank Achieved: 40
Highest solo-join Team Queue Rank Achieved: 198
SoloQ is alot of fun . Hotjoin is just a zerg fest . You don’t have to worry about anything since you’re grouped with random people .
Thanks for the friendly responses.
When you’ve got enough time to wait for 7-20 minutes per match. Hotjoin is instant, soloq can have fairly long wait times.
i have few advice for you, but first of all rank doesnt matter like literally in pvp i seen it so many times how low rank playe better than high rank players. anyway unto the advice.
- never fight someone you cant win. you see 2 players rushing to you, feel free to run and get other node instead.
- never ever double cap with someone unless you see opponent coming to fight for it.
- defined your role, if your a bunker then bunk if your a roamer then roam.
- Always fight on point meaning stay on the circle/node only leave it to dodge big attacks the go back in right away. unless your out gunned so better run away, live now fight later. your better for your team alive than dead.
- be flexible/resourcefull if your team has no bunker, try and bunk and never assume your team is going to do the right thing. " do it yourself if you want things to get done right!"
