Basically what the title says, I know there isn’t that many really competitive players out there yet but who would you say the top players of their classes are at the moment in NA? like #1 guardian or top 5 guardians #1 warrior or top 3 warriors etc etc. Just curious what everyones opinions on the top players out there is.

I just started playing some paids this week so I’m not really 100% sure who the top players are or if you can base it off individual play or team play but I know some that I would consider close to the top would be:

Hman for warrior
Bane seems to play a really good necromancer
Xyrkain is great at mesmer but there seems to be plenty of other good mesmers out there
Engi i have no idea really don’t see many competitive engi players
guardians seems to be a lot of good ones around lily rosethorn and lettuce bowl seem to both be pretty good but I dont really see them in paids yezhik and gods sacred also seem to play a good guardian.
Ranger: same as engi don’t really see many competitive ones
Ele idk
Thief also idk too many people play it

not saying any of the people I stated are the #1 players of their class just some players I’ve seen that seem to play their classes pretty well. I’m curious who everyone else thinks are some of the best players of their classes. Doesn’t necessarily have to be who has the most QPs just players of that class that you’ve seen that do really well

not really an answerable question, different people are better at different aspect of the game, and some people might be amazingly skilled but in crappy teams, really what your asking is who is the necro “etc” on the top teams out there. and since gw2 isnt competitive at all and barely anyone actually goes into paids at the moment id say its a pretty small sample size :P

Was about to say this. You CAN NOT evaluate a player with their “main class” based on how they work with a team. There’s really a big difference on being the “best necro/thief/ranger” and being a godly “team player.”

In which case, the latter is what should be recognized. I have to give Hman and the rest of his team being godly in terms of team synchronization though. Cept their necro, haven’t really seen their necro do anything notable.

This is bs. Yes it can be harder to evaluate a player when they only play with a good team, but to say these players are only good with a team is BS. While I agree determining a singular best player isn’t possible I think everyone on Tixe’s list can be game changing players. If you were to put 2-3 from his list on a pug team they would likely carry their team to the 3rd round/win the whole thing and I think the same thing could be said about making a team of 5 from his list and bringing it into paid tournies.

Team synergy and strategy definitely have an effect on the outcome of matches, but at the end of the day it comes down to winning your 1v1s and team fights. They definitely do not “win and die as much as the rest” as stated by Schwahrheit. And I’m sure anyone on the list would love to 1v1 or do any silly scenario he would propose to prove him wrong.

Why do not you organize the ‘best in class’ tournament and let ppl 1v1. At least you will see who is the best among those who participated.

Wtf? Being “best at your class” isn’t about 1v1. DID NOT imply that at all. Being best at your class is a lot of factors.

Someone could do that, but 1v1 isn’t the only determination or even the main determination of who is the best at their class. For some classes their 1v1 is a lot more important than others and pretty much any 1v1 you setup is going to be pretty contrived situations which wouldn’t really happen in game.

For example, for a back point mesmer to be a top tier player they must be extremely effective at 1on1s against roamers and be able to last long enough in 2v1 situations for help to arrive while trying to avoid letting their point be neutralized. When the mesmer’s point isn’t under fire they need to manage their portal CDs to provide help to the team in other areas while making sure they return to their point before it gets neutralized if someone tries to steal it.

If you were to contrast that with a necromancer you would find a much different skill set is required to be top tier. 1v1s for the standard team fight necro build will often not be in the favor of a necro and necros do not appear that impressive. But if you were to put that necro in a chaotic 4v4/5v5 teamfight its impact can be overwhelming on the other team. For necros, proper positioning relative to your teammates and enemies as how well you are able to avoid enemy burst is far more important than the results of any 1 on 1. Of course at the highest levels of play you would expect your necro to still do the best the class is able to in 1v1s but top players recognize that 1v1 isn’t what necros are designed for and if your necro is facing many 1 on1s your team should reevaluate its strategies.

If there is interest I could go over each class and define what I think are the most important factors of being a top tier player in each class but the main thing to take away is 1v1 is not the best way to evaluate the performance of many classes.

Of course this topic is meaningless, this is especially true with no rating system and especially without any quality post game statistics. When both of those are implemented the skill level of players and the impact they have in their matches will become much easier to evaluate but even then determining who is “best” is still a very subjective and somewhat meaningless topic.

This thread is difficult. Hman is an absolute beast but I’ve seen at least two better warriors and they were both nonames in frees. I could say something almost exactly the same about most of the names mentioned actually.

BTW, one player I find consistently impressive no matter what class I see him on is Apollo, but there’s no category for that.
