Solo queue up for an unranked match, the game says average queue time is 2:17.
After waiting 7:18, I finally get a match (about 95% of my matches are longer than the “average” queue time, usually by double).
Maps are skyhammer, courtyard, and khylo, luckily we get khylo.
I wait another 1:30 for game to begin.
We are winning the match relatively easily, and get the score to 494 to about 200ish in our favor.
Then one person goes afk and is eventually kicked due to inactivity.
A second person goes afk and is kicked due to inactivity.
A third person goes afk, and we have lost all of our points, I can’t cap anything because there are 2-3 people following me around attacking me no matter where I go.
We lose the match 494 to 500.

It boggles my mind how a 3 year old game that was trying to be an e-sport title can have PvP that is so incredibly terrible. Just adding my sentiment to the wealth of threads already out their explaining why GW2 PvP is so bad, maybe one day Anet will hire some talent and fix it.

That’s honestly one of the minor issues, as not much can honestly be done. It just exacerbates the many glaring issues that have never been addressed.

I would be fine with having their accounts terminated, or at least permanently banned from participating in pvp. If they want to try again, they can go buy another account.

If they had build templates they could reduce the waiting time to 30 seconds instead of 1:30 before a match.

Make pvp challenging, fun and with serious positive change. There are evidence that some players go afk to prove the opposite. Yes! intentionally go afk to show how un-challenge, un-fun and no serious positive change pvp is?

The question is: after 3 years of continuing ignoring players suggestion asking for pvp to be challenging, fun and serious positive change: is it still their fault?

lol pls. Most people that go afk already know that the game is over.Lets say you’re getting rolfstomped by a premade while your solo Q pug has like 3 mesmers. In that case its better to go afk than playing the match.

Only stupid people stay and play one sided games.

1. Increase rewards for winning matches and doing well. People will try harder to win to get loot. Maybe have enemies drop loot bags or give better/more rewards after every match.

2. Build templates, or something to reduce wait time. I agree here as well.

3. Have some kind of ladder or threshold to keep those with really low MMR in their own league. So if you afk enough you’ll not get matched up with those looking for a good game.

I will say that the rewards for playing PvP are really not worth it. I keep trying to get my brother to play PvP but he won’t because farming nodes or SW is so much more rewarding, and he needs to have every legendary in the game… I mean… He’s my brother!!!

I read the title of the thread and immediately thought the topic was going to be about pvp mechanics or class imbalances. Instead, it was about queue times that’s above average, maps in spvp when he could go ranked queue, and a rare occurance in a gamemode that ended up not being competitive in the first place.

Sorry for your misfortune but these reasons does not “make pvp terrible” nor is it the reason why the game isn’t esports.

3. Doesn’t do anything but make people quit the game once they feel they are in the bottom league. Announcing it as policy that there is a threshold blocking people from playing with invested players would be the death of new or struggling players.

That sounds a bit too harsh. What if there was an emergency? Also how would this work with disconnects? I sometimes get disconnects after disconnects so that I am unable to participate. GW1 did it right imo: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dishonorable_Combatant_System

EDIT: Actually a simple solution would be to play ranked matches instead. Less afkers there.

It’s their fault that this problem exist. If PvP wasn’t so bad, you wouldn’t have to wait 8 minutes. So when someone goes afk in your game, after you wait 8 minutes, it’s very exhausting. Now you have to wait another 3-5 minutes for match to end and another 8 minutes, if you go for a second match.

If Anet allowed to forfeit, like it was possible in GW1, you wouldn’t have to wait 3-5 minutes and could start a new game right after someone left. This would mean there are more people for every match (because no one being stuck in an already lost match), thus reducing the time you have to wait for a match.

If there was a forfeit function, I wouldn’t have a problem with AFK’ers and leavers.

Whoever goes afk at 494 deserves to lose. All you had to do was to run to one point, cap it or score two kills. Could have been done easily. Sorry you had such a bad team but that’s just how it is.

80% of my matches are with rally bots. It’s incredible. I’d down 2-3 of the enemy, and each time they rally off my teammates.

Anet, I can’t carry 4 players. Please give me some decent matches.

Wow. It really is becoming every match. At least 2 warriors on the other team, while my team is full of zerkers who are just their for the enemy to rally off of.

I wouldn’t mind so much if I didn’t have to wait twice the average wait time for each game.

Seriously, can someone investigate? I can’t believe how many matches I get where the enemy has at least 2 warriors and my team is just squishy.
