You think you want an MMR reset at the start of a season.

You would hate it.

You would have terribad people on your teams for weeks. Hundreds of matches.

MMRs can best be assigned when the matcher is pretty sure how good your opposing team is. If you win 25 times against known good teams, then the system can safely raise your MMR.

But if you win and lose against unknown MMR teams, how can it know what to do with that??

And that would be the situation for weeks.

Here, you try it: A game is won 500 to 350. That’s all you know. Were all of the winning team members better than all of the losing team members? If not, which were better? How much should you raise the MMR of the winning team members?

This will be bad for sure, I feel something worse is coming…

First few matches would be bad yes but not for weeks since it changes after every match.
Example: 100 players play 50 wil gain mmr by winning. The 50 other will remain their mmr the 50 who lost wil get matched vs each other so will the winning 50 it will split by 50 each time and be slowly filled by the lower mmr players winning more matches generating a bigger pool of players. Good players will move through the ranks faster and bad players will have a slower start

Current MMR is already extremely inaccurate given the amber/stronghold exploiting and the fact that Anet changed matchmaking criteria in the middle of a season.

The meta is making massive changes forcing most people into different builds, classes and playstyles. Their current MMR isn’t going to match their future MMR.

A reset would be good, and win-streak plus glicko ensures that mmr settles much faster than several weeks. The best players play dozens of games each day and they will rise faster.

What about ppl who will sit out matches to lower their MMR, like they get ruby/diamond, 0 pips, and sit 50 games out for low MMR.. what about then?
For example I want to get only to diamond.. I could easily sit out 100-200 match for low MMR in ruby… then go for diamond, what about other ppl, imagine that all would do that? They have the right to do what ever they want in pvp ranked, they sit down, not talking, they even watch mini films, come back, do it 200 times and low MMR

Report them for botting easy fix

If I want to dance, sit down in the game it’s not botting. Botting is when ppl use extarnal programs to help in the game, it’s like cheating ( ex. run faster, move automatic after opponents, regenerate faster health, etc).
Even if it will be considered botting, ppl still can loose if they want, they go to camp, don’t use skills and die… there will be so many exploit and frustration…
This MMR restart will be the biggest fail in gw2 history….

This is my primary argument for an MMR reset. If such loophole abuses were closed and an MMR reset happened then people will eventually get to their accurate rating.

Completely disagree with OP. An even start is necessary for a fair ranking. People with ultra low MMR shouldn’t have a way easier time climbing then people at top mmr competing against the best from the get go.

Inaccurate, because if an amber joins a legendary in season 2 the other opponents will be still the highest division, that means legendary opponents.
But the fact is, Everybody can sit out 200 game with 0 pips at ruby, to have a higher chance to get to diamond.. what about that?

True but unless anet adds a option for tanking a game you have to report for botting

Yet its the only option they have for it and asked us to use it

Even if you Compete with the best at the start you are at division 1 and 2, you don’t loose pips… you still are at a good place, you still can advance easy to sapphire, not to mention sapphire is still easy (to get 5 points in a row).
Imagine if new players try to go ranked, with same MMR, and end up with u, u still loose … it’s the same, like you play against players with same MMR like you(No restart).
But restarting MMR, it will be insane, ppl will try to loose no mater what (when they have 0 pips, for lower their MMR), there will be so much ppl trolling/manipulating matches, that many ppl will leave pvp, or quit the game.

MMR Reset is needed. PIP loss system is just too messed up. Not sure how one can fix/manage the whole mess.

LordOtto.2650 you made a very valid point. Casual folks may not be tanking MMR en masse but, hardcore players will ruin it for everyone else by tanking MMR for easy win streaks.

I do not buy reporting function. Each report needs to be investigated. Match tanking investigation is not a pattern matching work similar to botting. That means ANET has to hire a person or use an existing resource to do that work. If people gain confidence that the reporting actually works, expect massive volume of “I lost bcoz of him” reports. <lol>. How do you even manage that crap? Why make a system that you know will require heavy manual intervention and maintenance? That’s a poor design.

To observe who is botting is impossible, ANET only catches, with their anti cheating program, ppl who use external help to “cheat” in the game.
If ppl go ranked, they just loose, they want so badly to loose, they can’t control that, be serious, there is no way..
And if you make photo if someone sitting while ranked, haha, still it must be investigated, and ppl will say what they want, my phone ranged, had to open the door, had an accident at the desk, endless story.. it can’t be controlled..

Yes, MMR only works if people are actually trying to win.

If they are not, then MMR is useless.

Know what is worse than an MMR reset? Lack of MMR decay.

I don’t care if they reset MMR or not, gonna manually tank it by playing classes i’m not familiar with during the end of this season lmao
