Why are refunds being denied?
So..the real question is: You have 30 character slots????
I bought 5 to give me 8.
Why would they refund it? There is no reason why they should refund it other than you having a hissy fit.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Ignoring the fact that purchasing so many character slot expansions is pushing the boundaries of the reasonable… Why should they refund your items? You payed for a service that was delivered to you, with which you were satisfied.
Anyways why would the ability to unlock traits/buying transmutation stones mean that you cannot play on all of your characters anymore? From what it seems to me you looked at your character menu and thought. “Huh I have WAY too many characters. I wish I hadn’t bought all of them.” And now it seems like you are just using these new traits as an excuse to get your money back after purchasing a product (Character expansions) that you no longer want.
You payed for it. It is now yours. You are entitled to no refund.
So basically the e-mail response you got back was, every new trait and ability will be unlocked in PvP.
Either they made a mistake on an upcoming change and said something they weren’t supposed to or that agent was not clear on how the traits worked in PvP.

I am assuming that part of the post was information he heard earlier (as in several months ago, which has since been changed, but he seems to ignore that).

Why am I being told that I am not due for a refund for character slot purchases? I’m being told to be more careful when I purchase items with gems. I purchased character slots based on the information which A-net provided, which was:
“The addition of new skills and traits on a regular basis will of course mean expanded variety of abilities, builds, and tactics in PvP as well. As these additional skills and traits are added, they’ll be automatically unlocked and available for competitive PvP just like all existing skills/traits work today.”
I have no intention of unlocking traits on all 30 plus of my characters nor am I willing to purchases charges to transmute into wardrobe gear for those characters that I already spent the time to unlock. Please remedy this.
They said that they will be unlocked for PvP, but they didn’t say anything about that unlock being account bound. If there’s another quote somewhere where they said that, feel free to correct me, but the quote you cited doesn’t hold up your argument, unfortunately.
Refunds are not going to be instant, you should received all refunds by the 15th of May. If not open up a ticket.

I think what he is saying is that back in 2013 in their “looking ahead” they said they will eventually be adding more skills, etc. and “of course, they’ll be unlocked from day 1 in PvP”. He then bought 30 (still blows my mind) characters slots and has a bunch of different builds of each class (presumably). Now, he has no reasonable way to get everything unlocked on all of these.

or maybe OP is lying. I mean he does love to use hyperbole a lot, which makes one wonder why he would buy so many character slots.

Yeah, and after that they said multiple times that it would be unlocks.
But I suppose we should only take some of their statements into consideration?

Because across 30 plus characters I would need to unlock traits/charges to even play the same characters I had previously. I did not purchase them knowing they were going to have to be unlocks.

It would be nice to have traits/skills unlocked account wide.. and wouldn’t effect balance that much…
It’s already really expensive :/
Hopefully though they just put in templates, and a 9th character class so I Don’t feel like having 9 was a bad idea.
Maybe they’ll allow you to trade in character slots for templates in the future ?:) would be nice.

Buying a toy and getting tired of it because there is a new toy out that does more doesn’t mean you can return that old toy for full price. You either give that old toy away, throw it in the closet, or play with it anyways.

What do you mean no they didn’t? I quoted exactly what they published from their own blog. They stated then that you would earn traits the same way as you did then. This isn’t the same as a newer model car coming out…
But they had changed that statement as far back as 6 months ago. So why shout about a refund now and not 6 months ago when the change actually happened?

I suppose that it’s concerning to see Arenanet trying to milk their player base this way. What ever player base they have left that is.

If he was told that, it is rather clear that he decided on a refund on a much later date than those 4 months ago when the stance clearly changed.

It’s actually quite frequent that ArenaNet asks you to wait for what bothers you to be In-Game before refunding you.
Example : the flamekissed light armor in the gem store was redesigned, people could only get a refund after it’s been redesigned. Not when they announced they were going to redesign it.
So yes, I have no issue believing him when they told him to wait for the patch to be live. It also helps them getting rid of quite a few people who won’t bother filing a ticket twice.

The change was made back when the new healing skills (that required unlocking in sPvP) was released.
That was in December last year, which is about 4 months ago.
