Just out of curiosity, maybe somebody can explain it to me because it doesn’t make much sense.

There are dozens of traits/utilities/skills that will never be used anywhere in the game and yet the devs will use their precious time to design even more skills/traits/utilities , which most times are simply stronger variants of others, consequently the stuff that was being used prior to the introduction of the new traits/skill/utilities , will simply add their number to the list of unused stuff

The player ends up with a long list of stuff…but really will ever only use like 20% of it and I ask myself…why?

Especially because before releasing GW2, the devs said that they didn’t like having that many skills in GW1 as many were not being used, therefore they would have created a lot less stuff to choose from..but more useful overall.

As we all know that’s definitely not the case…

Care to narrow down your thoughts for us? You’re being very vague to what you’re referring too but I’m positive most skills get used at some point or have been used at some point whether it be for PvP, WvW, PvE or Other (other being role play, troll builds, mobility or specific reasons).

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.
….. And Elementalist.

I think I used every single traits on my thief so far. I’m testing new stuff in unranked for s/p condi build to staff shadow art…

In fact using those skills is up to you.

Your topic ignores the existence of PvE and WvW with respect to skills and traits. Not everything can be optimal, if you want to succeed on PvP you should use skills that are optimal to the game mode. Skills and traits are designed for all three modes and not only PvP.

Also compared to gw1 this game has less filler skills. As in skills that are simply a kittentier version of another skill.

this is probably not pvp relevant but https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sigil_of_Celerity this sigil seems useless. Anyone know any game mode of real situation where you would benefit using this thing?

This lol. And now just after we saw the “PvP/PvE balance split” so that the devs can be more flexible and make more frequent changes…and immediately the balance cycle is pushed to be going on 4 months since last “major” (lol yeah right) balance update at end of October. It isn’t really the same dev team anymore (who is even on the dev team now? it is so unstable) so I guess we can’t hold them accountable for what was said back then… but come on.

Edit: btw balance frequency in Gw1 was much faster. Until much later in its life it was monthly, I think even twice per month. Can look in archives of Gw1 wiki/game updates to verify.
