Why do people play engi and mesmer in pvp?
quite funny cause in last esl pretty much everyone had a double ele team…no double engi (Let alone double mesmer lol)
Looking at which class is played the most in high level tournaments (And even 2 on each team) is a really valid way to spot broken stuff and i think we already have a winner
…and it’s not mesmer nor engi (Even with nade’s bug)
Engineer is one of the most enjoyable classes for many in the game.
I am sure however a lot of them are bandwagoners who are abusing the grenade bug.
Mesmers are just the latest fotm cause of how powerful they have become.
I wouldn’t worry about engi, when they fix the nade bug, these nabs will all switch to something else, because engi is now pretty mediocre after the changes, and there are far stronger options. (shows how much of a joke this forum is, with all the whining about engi “buffs” pre-patch from kids that have no clue how things work)

Granadier was banned.
As said up there, chances are some people play it because it’s what’s strong right now.
I don’t do much PvP myself, but when I do it’s been almost exclusively as Engineer, since it’s been my main since launch (I believe my Engi Charr has about half the playtime across all my characters), no matter how good or bad it might be at that point in time.
mesmer cuz its best
So I’ve had multiple fights now with obviously cheesy op mesmers, necromancers, and thieves. And I did /not/ go ‘nades because I thought I’d see how engi plays when ‘nades get inevitably nerfed to oblivion. Oh and a warrior that just didn’t die, and two of our team members lagged every time they fought him, no idea what that was. Anyway, my point stands: Not using grenades means I’m gimping my team when we come up against other op setups. So I’m going ’nades until things are balanced.

Which necromancer build would you consider not cheesy and op……

How many teams join ESL?, how many teams reached the finals?..which team won using 2x ele..yes that’s right Abjured, the same team that won even without 2x eles..strange isn’kitten I’m pretty sure Abjured wins because they’re Abjured and not because they abuse anything broken…
On the other side of pvp (90%) we have pug team, how many use double ele?…NONE, How many pug team don’t use an ele at all?…the majority
Feel free to post videos of pugs teams facerolling ranked/unranked with 2x eles
For me, Engineer is by far the most fun class to play. It’s very active, with a lot of movement and actions, and you can do a ton of stuff with it if you know how, with loads of interesting/niche combos. I usually play marauder’s static discharge with toolkit/rifle turret/elixir s because I enjoy playing it more than most other specs. I have seen a few engineers queuing that are quite obviously only playing engi to abuse the broken grenadier trait, but they’re very easy to kill.
Engie and mesmer can both be very, very fun to play. The way their abilities “lock together” is very satisfying in a lot of ways. There’s a feeling of flow that’s kinda hard to describe but you really appreciate it if the class “clicks” for you. (Personally, I love mesmer but I can’t play engie for kittens.)
A lot of players just hoping on the power bandwagon probably aren’t in it for that. You can tell because not only is their execution poor, but they’re just sticking to one or two combos like they’re a mediocre thief or something. But, like, generally speaking, playing an engie or mez build with a lot going on? It’s exciting!
favorite class. been playing war and engi since beta. i love hard cc and these classes have an abundance of if.
currently a Boyfriend main :P
Waiting To ReRoll Mystic & Forget About Tyria
As far as engi’s go at the moment, a large majority of them are band-wagoners and baddies that need the help. Been playing an HGH Elixir Gun/ Toolkit build, and I’ve been able to beat all but one or two nade abusing engi’s 100% of the time.
Then I call them on their kitten and they almost invariably ragequit. It’s my own form of vigilante PVP justice.
I’m having fun—Might even miss this bug.
As far as why I actually enjoy the class:
As someone mentioned before, there’s just a nice flow to engi combat. Synergy between skills allows a lot of creative combos. Combat feels more in-the-moment and intuitive.

No offense to the people that normally play Engineer and Mesmer cause I know you guys are just doing what you love with skill and competence.
Some people heard how strong these two classes are and are genuinely trying it out for the first time.
Other people, just want to run around spamming the engineers grenades bug, and the mesmers stealth burst abilities. Whether those abilities remain as they are is unknown but for now people love using these two things.
No more complaining about x class being OP please, just get used to the new patch please

I’m not talking about NA esl i’m talking about EU
Noone gives a crap bout NA esl lol…na it’s just abjured vs randoms, the competitive part is pretty much nonexistent, they could run 5 rifle wars and would probably win anyway

That’s the point exactly. Engineers are really not in a good spot right now, it is one broken trait that gives that illusion. When that gets fixed i expect to see a sharp decline in engi’s. Because they are really not in a good spot.
anet has disabled a trait for Guardians that was broken, and i expect they will simply do the same for grenadier.
Since anet’s Colin Johanson said they are very focussed on the upcomming xpack, i doubt any real balance changes will be made any time soon. So all the builds that are broken without the abuse of obviously bugged mechancics will probably be left to dominate for quite some time.
Every match I’ve played with mesmers on the other team, I’ve won. Including things like 3x mesmers on the other team. I main Mesmer btw, so I’ve always played Mesmer in PvP :p
But come on, what do you expect? With the forums spitting out threads about how OP Mesmer is, and how much instagib Engie nades are, of course you’re going to have people go in to try it out. Pretty soon the average pretender will grow bored with their alt, or tired of the reality of being rolled by people who actually know what they’re doing, and move back to whatever was comfortable before.

Meh bad mesmers (Aka fotm rerollers) aren’t really an issue…an average decent thief can still kill 90% of mesmers out there and a good one still owns good mesmers, they just need to try a bit harder without random spam…
Yesterday was also double-engineer pvp daily so of course a lot of people would have played that class simply to get the dailies done.
Very presumptuous post by the OP. I am an Engineer in real life. When I started playing the game 2.5 years ago the Engineer was the least played class. It was my first 80, and continues to be the primary class I play. I just have not been able to get into any other classes.
I do not play “meta” builds either. My builds are my own (never used a Celestial Rifle build). I am currently NOT using Grenades and NOT burn stacking to make my build hopefully nerf proof. I have attached my games by profession pie chart (465 games played to give a reference).
Engi is my only serious character. Tried all the others and nothing compares for me. I don’t play dirty and will not be using grenadier until it’s fixed!
Honesty.. i met more Eles and WArriors with Guardians.. than Mesmers/Engis.
Its mostyl bcos of Turnaments on ELS and go4.. Every tem have at last 2 ele or 2 warriors with 1 support class, either healing (lol) Guard, Mesmer as shutdown, or Necro as Life Sliphon wells omg AOE sliphons/dmg, ot thief for Roaming.
I love how ppl QQ about Mesmer adn engi while Mesmer is just Mesmer, engi is bugged.. while Warrior with Eles reck everyone…
It seems like almost every player in pvp is an engi or mesmer. Do they do this just to get the guaranteed extra points from winning, or do they actually enjoy the class?
This goes back to why anyone plays any class.
Roughly two three months ago I recall a similar thread just replace Engi with Ranger and Mesmer with Ele.
For the most part, it’s believed that those classes are very easy to get kills with and they feel its a guaranteed win for them. I say a minority of those players in pvp (not pve or wvw) are people that actually enjoy their classes. For the most part, it’s just the flavor of the month/ quarter.

Mes has been my second main for a while now next too thief. I really enjoy the illusionary mage/duelist role tbh. But I’m sure many people are playing both of them because they are the flavor of the month and the same thing probably would apply to any class that was suddenly buffed into the meta.

Engineers didn’t get buffed into the meta. They were in the meta pre-patch and actually didn’t get buffed overall at all.
They just got changed, A LOT. So I am guessing a lot of people want to try some of the new stuff on it.
Then there is also the Grenade bug abusers ofc.

actually a team ran 3 mesmers and did pretty well.
