Why do so many PvPers have bad attitudes?
Because you wanted an even, fun match, but mostly they are lopsided and half the time you have no effective team, and the other team just laughs and chases and beats on you.

Its anets horrible MMR system thats the issue.
Can you imagine a new player during his first 3-5 games…..immediatly he will get matched with or against guys who played this game for 10k+ games and/or played and won multiple tournaments.
I cant think of another online game with a ladder where this is possible so GW2 is kinda unique i guess.
What exactly is the mmr system?

What exactly is the mmr system?
MMR is quite common in most online pvp games. MMR rating is hidden rating that is meant to match players with others of equal strength and experience. And most importantly to avoid that unexperienced ppl get matched up with players who have far more experience and skill than they have.
The system in this game is a bit weird tho. The MMR matchmaking only applies to ppl who are available at that very moment. So its possible that people get in to matches with ESL winners and players who are playing their first few games ever.
MMR should prefent this , but in GW2 it doesnt.
In wow i was 2600 rated and i would never face beginners, ever. Sure its a game with a bigger scene. But if noone was available within my rating range in wow i had to wait instead of being forced to play against really low rated players. Mind that this waiting only applies to higher rated ppl (and they usually dont mind since they prefer good games over frustrating/steamroll games).
But why do i get instant pops in GW2 and end up in games with ppl with 5-10 games total played? It makes no sense.

Yeah I know what MMR was from playing sc2, I was more curious about gw2s mmr specifically. But thank you for the explanation.

Because of skyhammer matches with mesmers on hammer.
Because developers was too lazy to create a decent pvp match system and to compensate this they toss us “autobalance”
It would be cool if we were given tiers like other games, but do we really have the population for something like that?

The population exist , but in the higher tier they are less ppl (like all games) .
PPl in the past have moaned for 15-25min ques and facing the same ppl , at the Summer of 2013
(at the same time they wanted more PvErs to move to PvP side for faster ques and more MMr (and the ability to make gold+legendary) > but know for some reason they make fun of them and curse the company for bringing them here . Or is it an other thing that the community dont remember and havent said a single sorry till know – and the counter silent treatment in the other side as a result ?)
On the PVE side, it isn’t much better. The real question is, why so many people in GW2 have bad attitudes.
EDIT: thought about it a bit more, and I may have an answer.
One of the most aggressive playerbases I ever saw was in RS, because in that game everyone is literally your competition. That is the only MMO I’ve played when having multiple people has, like, absolutely no benefits and only detriments.
In PVP (and in group PVE), other players are generally attributed to your failures. If your team loses, it is because either your teammates are idiots, or your opponents are idiots who camp you with a GC thief. This is actually true in many regards, since it is hard to win against a competent team with the three stooges.
Because of this, the standard sPVP player has many reasons to hate their fellow players.

Why the bad attitudes in PvP? Because people are actually trying to PvP in a PvE game.
when get whispers like this:

than how i should not rage?
Here’s another reason…. pve pros come in with a total of 15 matches played ever and push far and fight a bunker 1v1 on a far point as a PU mesmer… PRO status right there.
Then when you call said pro out on his rotation he says “I’m 2v1 bro!” It’s like yeah your 2v1 on a point that isn’t ours after the rest of ur team got wiped because we were outmanned then the other team can sacrifice the person to go stomp ur annoying self at their home point… But yeah you done good helping the team!

Exactly
And here few reasons:
1.You team have competent skill and know they class very well, they are winning a match lest say in skyhammer or the stupid trebuchet map i dont remember the effin name: and some noob, because i call noob the one who want to make something spamming those morroic and idiotic mass destruction utility that arenanet wanted to put in the game to troll skilfull players and losses.
2.because you have to match against guys running minion master whit pirate rune whit bunny rank and you get stomped.
3.Skyhammer
4.MMR
5.perma dodge thief/perma stealth thief
6. skyhammer
7.thiefs
8.the amazing unbalance mechanic you have to face against engineer whit they 1200 range turrets and even if you kill him, the turrets remain in the zone trolling you.
9. skyhammer whit thief
10. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9
cuz its super unbalanced and troll players can pick mesmer or thief and ruin the fun for everyone. its tough to be good spirited when jerks can make the game completly one sided
and then theirs POINT DEFENDING
where one tanky person can sit on a point while 2 or 3 people try to kill him and it does nothing, it should be like guild wars 1 where the side with more people generates power to the node
Too many troll builds is right; a lot of players who think they’re good but are carried by their class.
Celestial d/d ele
Prismatic Understanding Mesmer.
Evis/Longbow Warrior Condie Warrior
Terrormancer
Meditation Guard
Turret Engineer
99.9% of these people stay in soloque or kittenjoin because they’re not really a problem for a strong team.
You guys keep talking about this mythical turret engineer who pwns face all day, and I am not sure you are even facing “turret” engineers at all.
I got yelled at by an angry PU mesmer for being a kitten kitten turret engie, and I use 1.
1 Turret. The healing one, no less, with NO KNOCKBACK.
Roll a turret engie and tell me how OP it is.
Physti – Elementalist | Fistful of Blades – Thief
[WHIP] Quaggan Slavers – HoD
It’s because they have not emotionally matured yet. The best thing you can do is just ignore them.
I’ve attached a nice screenshot of few whispers from someone that I received a few weeks ago when I was on my warrior (not running the meta hammer build nor even had a bow equipped) who got upset when I beat his super squishy ele. I still get laughs from it.

I ran a turret decap competitively prior to the December 10th balance patch and frequented the top 100. It’s funny when you make something work that the majority think is null, how many rude whispers you get. Now I play a power ranger.
You might think you’re taking the high road by ignoring your teammate’s chat, but really your just being an inconsiderate kittenhead. Rated matches are competitive and competitive play requires communication. By not communicating, you’re the one being that guy and frustrating your teammates. Not the other way around, even though it might suit your assumed “moral high-ground”.
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long

Depends on how they said it. A request of “More to defend center pls” will get acknowledged. A request of “Get your Kitten Racial Epithet to center u Kittening scrubs!” will get ignored.

They were referring to the following part of someone’s post where the chat channel is completely turned off:
It’s unfortunate, but lately I’ve taken to going invisible and turning off map/team and say chat.

Not necessarily true. When I play with my team we’re in TS, and any random that joins can be directed through my teammates who have the ability to see what they’re saying and relay it to me if need be. If I’m pugging, chances are I’m going to be one of the most if not the most experienced pug there, and we have a minute to figure things out before the match starts on average, and I’m leading through my map ping micromanagement. It’s very easy to have a strategy and adjust it without verbal coercion. I didn’t get to the top 100 by being an “inconsiderate kittenhead”. As of now nothing should be taken seriously until we start seeing in-game tournaments and rewards for getting to the top leaderboards other than bragging rights.
After spending a few days in custom, I decided to run rated. However, I’ve ran across a few with quite a nasty attitude lately. They put you down RIGHT AWAY. They seem to expect that you’ve learned pretty much everything you needed to know already in custom and know exactly what the strategy is. It’s quite frustrating. I tell them that the only real way to truly learn is through rated and that I have already played custom for a few days already. At the same time, there are no incentives in custom (capped rewards). Then, they call you a noob and selfish. At times, you’re paired up against really good players (due to Arenet’s horrible match making system) where they start calling you out as a horrible player. I finally understand why pvp in GW2 is so unappealing to the majority now. The whole system is a mess and influences bad attitudes. It’s funny when it’s called structured pvp when there is hardly any structure to it. I just want to enjoy pvp and be rewarded for the hours I put into it. However, I’m forced to experience negative players in rated to get there.
^ And that’s why Hotjoin continues to be so popular. We had the same issue back in GW1 with HoH where you basically weren’t allowed in teams unless you already had Rank 3, but the only way to actually earn ranks was to do HoH. So it was a catch-22 situation where the newbies weren’t allowed to gain the experience they needed. The high-end PvP scene thus got so insular that it just became the same small amount of teams fighting each other, and it eventually died from lack of new blood as older teams got bored and moved on to other games.
It was telling that Random Arenas (the equivalent of Hotjoin in GW1) was played more than every other PvP mode in GW1 combined.
So much for the legendary GW1.
