Why do some of us think Chrono is OP?
I’m by no means a top player…you can count me on the slightly above average casual players, but most of the OP statments i see are based on 1 vs 1 or small skirmishes experiences.
In those scenarios a good Chronomancer can be really strong, It can either go with good DPS (depends on survivability while dpsing) or high survivability and team support.
In team fights imho, Chronomancer starts to lose his OP status, that is because either DPS or survivability/team support are indeed sub par comparing with other classes, so in a team fight when faced with a comp that has that classes you will underperform.
DPS -> both reapers and DH have a better DPS/survivability ratio
Survivability/team support -> Druids or tempest elementalists are better
What the chronomancer could possibly bring to the team is an option, when you have a chronomancer in your team you lose a bit of either dps or team support, but you can adjust the rest of your comp to have slightly less movement speed, to compensate this.
So I agree that chronomancer isn´t op.
When saying that a class is OP you need to think on all the stages of a conquest map, if your build over performs in team fights / small skirmishes / forcing decaps / +1s / rotating / team support, if your answer is yes to 3 or more of this points you should complaint, if not you should accept it and avoid that class in his strong points.
I’ve been guilty of doing this in the past (DH traps) but I keep trying to improve.
Hope this helps the OP passing his point through

People are probably referring to the chrono bunker thing, or the well support. Why is it OP? Because it’s easy and effective in a pug queue, where people don’t work together much less coordinate.
Oh look we have a squishy comp, let’s push and play 3 points; why can’t we cap anything? Oh look we’re out numbered mid but we have sides, let’s die here anyway then complain when the others die because consequently out numbered. Oh look the 2 guys on mid are low health; oh one just went down; we have sides but I can help this -runs in and insta dies-. Oh look the dude just insta died, one is cleaved out and the other just went down; we have sides, but I got dis, I’ma go mid and be hero. Spoiler: he insta dies.
That’s your typical pug match.
This same reason is why most other classes are either OP or UP. Builds like shatter mesmer and thief for example, because with most soloers being marauder, vs a half good comp that has the slightest clue, sticking with the above described level of thought, the other team will likely create a snowball for the entire match during which anything not running a bunch of invuln frames, instead wanting to rely on support, will spent the match out numbered, chased, and ultimately getting wrecked.

You mean CChronomancer?
Nothing wrong with a 10 second AOE stun, really.
Continuum Split should never have been a thing.

Correction: Shatters should have never been a thing with Chronomancer. Why didn’t ArenaNet redesign F1-F4? It’s like the balance team loves shooting themselves in the foot.
Same thing with Reapers, how can you healthy balance something with perma chill?

dualing a guildy chrono and tbhI have no real knowledge on a mesmer, let alone a chrono but as a dd staff thief, it was very hard to find a window to get any real dmg in. i mean, she had such a high up keep of chaos armour, with a lot of evades from #3 diversion? and the new well. also the amount of clones that it can pump out, she had at least 4 nearly every 5 seconds and they had super speed to when they go for a shatter. but this is from a dualing PoV and i guess its more a l2p issue for me. mesmer was sword sheild/staff mostly zerker gear
in spvp its kinda different. i dont see them that much an issue because i can just run of if the fight takes too long and be useful somewhere else. i noticed that the spike dmg isnt as high as the old shatter, its just they have so much defensive tool’s now

Bunker chronomancer is probably the best pointholder in the game right now, though not with celestial. The active defenses are insane. And alacrity support is strong. Note that other, more offensive builds can run alacrity support with less bunkering and more damage, which is probably more versatile.
When more people starting master continuum shift people will realize that it’s a lot stronger than it seems, but right now I don’t feel as though everyone has figured it out completely yet.
I don’t think it’s OP though, since it requires the person driving the boat to skilled enough not crash into the iceberg.

Compared to pre-HoT Mesmer isn’t as strong in a 1on1 anymore. Anyone else feels the same?
Yes you could spec and equip for a beastly 1on1 build (which Fat Disgrace might have faced) but would those be good in Conquest?
I also don’t see it as the best point holder in the game because you will get decapped during the distortion.
Mesmer is my 3rd pvp-class and I’m currently a bit struggeling with the builds I try.

You can only get decapped through distortion, not the evade well or the sword evades.

The answer to this is quite simple:
- Mesmer was UP in years past for a variety of reasons. Largely skill nerfs, bugs, and Thief dominance.
- When the trait rework was done, Mesmer got a major overhaul, and the new trait synergies in conjunction with a few overbuffs resulted in a brief period of Mesmer Dominance.
- Chronomancers first “release” was actually during the HoT BETA weekends. In these scenarios, before the other Elite specs had been revealed and tested, the Chronomancer was heralded as an overpowered Elite spec, set to dominate the scene come the post HoT release META.
However
- In reality, nothing could prepare even Chronomancer for the overpowered dominance, and game changing setup that the other OP elite specs could bring. Chronomancer continued to be seen as “one of the new OP elite specs”, however most of what base Mesmer had been given, and much of the potential of the Chronomancer under these old norms, quickly became unviable.
- Chronomancer was actually forced away from old Mesmer themes and for it to even remain in the game, had to evolve itself to a new role. The new, best Chrono specs are either bunker or support (also classic portal bot sans none -_-u), neither of which are OP, just perhaps frustrating to people looking for some easy Mesmer takedowns. Fact is, all the best bunkers of old and new have been a pain in the kitten , particularly 1v1.
There’s nothing OP to see here. Move along.
