There are a lot of you who do this, so I hope someone will give me an answer…

So I join a nice 5v5 server with eight people. Cool. Not too crowded like 15/16, but enough to make it a fun and strategic game. Time for a few duels without getting interrupted because of the relatively fewer people. You get to know the other guys a bit as well.

But then…you see the dreaded “Automatically Rebalancing” or “Volunteer to Rebalance” or something like that and you know people have left. Still, not too bad. Even a 3v3 is good fun. But then it drops further….3v2…2v2….2v1….1v1!

I mean huh? Why? It’s not low glory because I get a lot more glory in games that are less crowded. I get between 175-230 glory very reliably in lower population games. So it’s not that.

So…why? Why leave a server? Do you go somewhere else? Different opponents? Don’t like the map rotation? What’s the reason?

Added: Another possibility is that people leave on higher population games too, but are quickly refilled since they’re near the top of the list. The players keep churning but the room is never empty. Any truth to this?

When a keyboard turning mesmer kills me 1v1 on a warrior, or when a heartseeker spammer kills my necromancer. Oh oh, or when I down another warrior, but he downs me a few seconds later, and he wins the fight because he vengeance stomped me.

Basically ragequiting.

Also Capricorn.

My reasons for leaving, in order of freqency:
1. Because I can.
2. Joining game on a team losing 50-400
3. Tourney que pop
4. Capricorn
5. Teammates clearly incapable of using their brains
6. Spirit Watch

The hot joins aren’t really considered important…I actually don’t play them that often, I tend to just focus on tournaments, but hot joins are meant to be very flexible so yes people are going to always come and go and I don’t see that as a problem at all…UNTIL it occurs in tournaments only then does it become a problem that people leave to be honest.

My question is why does it happen more in 5v5 rooms rather than 8v8 rooms?

My assumption would be because in spvp people tend to want as many people because the more people the more chance for kills/neutralizing/capping/getting treb hits …and so on and some people i feel don’t realize that they are joining a 10 max rather than 16 max players so when they do that they tend to leave and go to a different map…

and some other things already mentioned that effects both spvp 8v8 and 5v5 are:

capricon
tpvp is up
joins just to play for a bit not necessarily throughout a whole match
and so on…

I typically leave at the start of a new map. I am most likely caught up in a fight when the game ends and I am too engaged to leave till the map rotates. Once it loads I leave but the game starts before I am gone.

I also really despise games that are imbalanced: 4v5, 3v4, etc. Games should never start till the sides are even. Just let people deathmatch and duel. Give people a window to exit when a new map starts.

I leave games with too many thieves or mesmers, or too many PvE entities cluttering the game. It’s actually pretty hard to find a good game but it happens once in a while. Joining and quitting is how you browse for a good game.

My hot pocket is ready.

Fixed that for you.

Also, horribly imbalanced games are what usually makes me bail on a server when I still want to play.

Because hotjoin is simply boring. I often enter it just to test a new bind or to practice phase retreating into certain highground spots. Once I’m done with that, I leave.

Sometimes, I attempt playing hotjoin. I havent played more than one and a half full matches since beta, though.
