Why does PvP have to be so brutal?
PvE – is the answer, at this point most of the people don’t go to PvP to do PvP, but to get fancy skins and ascended Armor…. Which are then again made to bait people into PvP but A-net doesn’t notice it hurts PvP more than it helps, people who’d want to play competitive would even go there without being awarded with ascended armor. And then again for the Backpiece, Fashion hunters ain’t even allowed to stick to one Class, which is ridiculous in itself…. If those things were obtainable only through unranked it’d make much more sense to me since the baited people don’t hurt in ranked matches but can still decide to play Ranked if they are getting more interested in PvP….. Well I personally can’t share the experience about the placement matches, they were fine on me, at least this season. Last season i had to make the experience of having to climb, since i was starting to do PvP, and i can tell it wasn’t fun at all….
Since its easier for pve players to get ascended gear this season through other means the pve arguement doesn’t really hold weight.

Its actually the complete opposite. The lack of PvE Bronze and Silver players is the problem in the current matchmaking system (which doesnt even work in high populated moba’s so i dont get it why they did it here). Because you have such few players in general the MMR range gets wider if the queue time goes up. Because of the lack of the PvE players there arent fast bronze and silver games coming up, so they get put into the wider queue range aswell. Therefore you have games where a Platinum and a Bronze player plays a game together which is unsatisfying for both of them.
The matter got point out a lot of times already but ANet just refuses to change anything on their systems.
I am Bronze T2 and I have noticed I am getting opponents of much higher skill rating than myself. Frankly I find it very painful but still fun.
The thing is that PvE players are welcomed into ranked games but they are not taught more about what ranked is, it’s just a free farm and just a different button in the PvP interface. There should be some more info, some tutorials a guide to ranked, some more tips on how to fight even when entering HoTM there should be some tips displayed. If one tries to get into ranked a warning pop up that this is competetive and its serious and not some Mary Sue-sque gameplay like back at unranked.
I think that education and information is the key, if people try to improve, they will get better but they need to see more.
If this state stays as it is now, it might turn out later that quality competitive won’t really go extinct, but will be really, really of low quality.
But in the end of the day, I see that gold, platinum and legendary appears to have normal quality of matches and when I look back at silver and bronze I just see a cluster of PvE players for daily and baddies who can’t swallow the truth that they are not as good as they think they are.

I think a major problem is that PvP is entirely too serious. This leads to trolling and general toxicity.
Let’s face it, GW 2 is really not set up to be an arcade game. It needs to be about more than learning the “combos,” ( as we used to call them when I competed in the arcades,) and reaction time/connection speed.
There’s not any money in it at the moment and I think that’s a good thing. Perhaps we can re-focus on “sport.”

I disagree with this. I think parts of PvP are rightly taken as serious, because the people in those skill divisions recognize it as such. Obviously we’re not playing for anything besides bragging rights and pride in Season 6, but it’s really discouraging to be put into the same match where someone is just ‘knocking out their daily’ as it were.
Toxicity has been prevalent since day 1, but for the most part if the skill levels between teams are balanced, it’s less of an issue. Problem is, when that balance falls apart, like it is doing currently, people who aren’t normally salty/rude/trolly become discouraged.
For me, I’ve seen 90% of my pvp friends list disappear from either not pvp’ing anymore or quitting the game entirely. Yeah it’s part of the game I guess, but it could also be fixed before more voices from the community are lost.
They lost my voice and 4 full seasons plus a couple weeks of season 5 because they removed stronghold as a rank play. I dont like contrash and just sitting on circles… Stronghold was at least fun.

Wanna know why? BECAUSE YOU ARE. The population of PvP is so low that people from higher leagues get placed in lower matches. I’ve climbed out of gold last season seeing Plat + higher frequently, even some silver. MM is bunk.
When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.
A problem is that a pve play may come in and try, get utterly destroyed in every match (say 5) then leave and not return because they can’t even win a single match.
They can’t learn when they never had a chance, Anet needs to find a way to bring them in and get them up to the standard they need to be to stand a chance.
But then again if you constantly get thrown against a higher skill bracket just so people get matches then what can you expect.
