Why does autobalance take so long?
Still wondering if anyone knows. I think speeding the autobalance up might make interesting even matches (as opposed to sad boring steamrolls) happen more often in hotjoin.
i dunno.
i sort of gave up trying to beg for them to fix hotjoin.
i solved this problem by stop playing guild wars 2 all together.
(i only log in once for the daily rewards nowadays)
i will participate in any future strong hold public tests though.
Because hotjoin might as well be deleted. Honestly they can delete all of structured pvp at this point. It’s so kittening broken you might as well nuke it from orbit and start over. Like this is the worst I’ve ever seen a game’s pvp. And oddly enough, it has nothing to do with class balance.
I think most people would agree hotjoin has too many problems to be consistently fun. But speeding up autobalance so an outnumbered team can recover more quickly seems like it would be an easy and effective improvement.
The issue is simple. Make the following change:
When 2 teams have equal numbers, the next member to join must join the losing team.
Think about it. In a game now, what happens? The next member ALWAYS joins the winning team.
What happens next? Someone from the losing team drops.
What happens next? Someone who was playing from the start gets moved to the losing team.
What happens next? That person is annoyed and leaves, causing another balance to occur.
The cycle continues.
There are many issues with hotjoin, that could be fixed, but won’t be.
This is one of them, and the majority of the issues came to life when Spectator was added to the game. Why actually play a match when you can join Spectator and force autobalances all game at will? huehuehue
I really like spectate though, a lot of the best things i’ve learned in game have been from watching skilled players and looking around at lots of different builds. I don’t look at a lot of gw2 streams or external websites, i’d rather be in the game. So spectate is something I really enjoy.
People using it to manipulate autobalance is kitten but I think speeding up the autobalance swap would at least cut down on the inbalance time during matches where everyone is actually playing and not just manipulating for a win.

They could fix this by just locking spectator. AKA if you enter spectator anytime during the match, you stay in spectator until match end.

ohh I see. Yeah that makes sense, especially so you can’t peek at someone’s build and quickly hardcounter them easily.
