We have gambling servers, King of the Hill, 1v1 dueling, 2v2 and 3v3 servers… was wondering if the devs were ever going to make ranking game modes like these.
Any genuine idea as to why this has not been done yet?
Prob because of the current lack of interest in spvp, but yes we totally need 2v2 and 3v3 game modes.

Hmm… Probably because we hardly have suited maps for such game modes and certain profession/build combos are always superior.
After release there was never a week without a thread on this forums front page with tons of players begging for a 3v3 gamemode. 2 years later everyone’s given up or gone back to other 3v3 arena games. (WoW,WS,FF14, etc)
Our only hope is that the new direction of Aanet pvp team with grouch/hugh is taking has a surprise for us.
its sad that we dont have more game modes because i play this game and 90% of my time is in spvp

game is not balanced anyway so why not have 1vs1 one its going to be fun
edit. (not that other mmos are balanced lineage wasnt either but it was rock paper scissors in a way)

I’ve always felt that the biggest problem with sPvP has been the lack of game modes (as having just one is ridiculous in an MMO, and it is somewhat devastating for GW2).
The game modes that you listed fairly much summarizes which ones I’d like to see added first

What’s balanced, really? The vast majority of possible (and reasonable) PvE builds are probably underpowered – Further on; Maybe most of those are very much so.
But you’re still right though. The 1v1 builds are likely to be particularly unbalanced. This suggested game mode is kinda at the far end of one spectrum, but a lot of people would still be overjoyed if it was introduced into the game – even in a very casual setting.
It’s already in the game, there are tons of 1v1 dueling servers you can join. Splitting the already small populace into 1v1 2v2 3v3 5v5 soloq tq hj is a bad idea.

it wll be different if it has profit and maybe it will attract more people

One of the original intentions (officially) for the single PvP mode was to unify low end and high end PvP. In GW1, they felt the large difference between the early access (RA) and the competitive (GvG) format scared a lot of people off. They also felt GvG was far too complex.
Personally, I think another part of the reason is that they quickly realized that many profession mechanics would run rampant without the necessity to stay on a node. In that respect I’ve always had the impression that they limited the game based on their profession designs instead of designing professions to fit game types.
Anyway, the reasoning was that tournaments would be more accessible to the average player because they’d be comfortable with the format if they’d played ANY PvP.
In reality, the conquest mode seems to be too complex for brand new players and boring to experienced ones.

I really dont want a 2v2 or 3v3. I think this game has more balance in pvp than any other mmo I’ve played, though not that Ive played a lot of them. Yes, there are a lot of issues with pvp but all in all I like it better than the rest. I think fixing the 4v5s and afk issues will help ALOT! I think there should be some way to reward serious pvp players wiht better reward tracks for higher rating rather than time spent playing in pvp in that way you would have players working harder to be able to get those reward tracks. I mean if you did a 2v2 or 3v3 it would be all bunkers or engi’s playing and no one would take a point. An 8v8 with a larger series of maps would be an interesting concept though

This makes me cringe.
1) If they wanted to unify low and high end pvp, why even have failjoin as an option? It’s almost like a different mode itself cuz people are so horrible in it.
2) the difference between RA and GvG was astronomical, the game modes are completely different. Everyone and their mom knew that RA was casual while GvG was competitive.
NO 1 was being scared there, the only thing that scared players away was the silly R9+ requirements or w/e people were asking. I ran with my guild so I wasn’t affected (GUILD. WARS.) but even so, those people simply did not try seriously to find a guild or team.
Some ppl just aren’t willing to put in the effort to take pvp seriously, and we should get punished for that? Thx casuals for ruining MMOs since early 1800s
3) GvG was not very complex honestly but it took half a brain to play and I guess that is bad for business these days when every MMO has to be (self censor) ‘casual’ friendly.
GW3 will be toddler accessible and even more revolutionary, skills have been removed and we simply stare dragons to death. WASD was too confusing to new players so we removed movement as well!

Because people just like to complain, this is one of the most balanced MMOs around. Sure some things need adjusting but balance is good atm. Also lots of players have issue with passive skills/traits more so than actually balance.

If that’s the case then how does “balance” seem to level out the more players you have in a game? The main issue is that there are so many class varieties and counter balances you can have on one team. Prematch you can not only pick a different class, but change that classes traits and equipment (amulet) prior to the start of the match…for 1v1 why not do the same. Or best out of three rounds. Or make a 1v1 mini arena with three nodes on the map. Or just 3v3 arena.
I feel there are 20 ways to make this work where everything is just as balanced as a 5v5 matchup. Because I personally wouldn’t mind going condi guard with a conjuring Ele as my ptner and being able to use his icebow for a change. I feel a lot of team synergies are not being fully utilized here.

I am pretty sure I am not the only one who wants a mode other than conquest. The lack in build diversity leading to QQ about certain specs and that people want to balance around that circle torments me.
I am not a 1v1 fan due to game design but non-conquest wouldn’t necessarily lead to more dueling specs.

Personally, I think the best option would be to introduce more complex game modes , like AV or IoC in WoW.
I know WvWvW, but I dont like working for or playing with gear/ food advantages. Besides a less zergy version would be more fun imo and the complexity would help to even out mechanics that would make certain proff’s impossible/extremely frustrating to deal with small scale (imagine 3 cond. shadow arts thieves for example)

Incredibly good idea,dylan, a pvp mod who rally PVE AND PVP this could be awesome for gw 2, a mode where you can be back capped if you zerg all way. I hope a dev will look at that !
You’re making it sound like conquest, which it is, but a more complex version. To use the AV from WoW analogy, you would want to cap certain objectives, but only in order to make the final objective easier to cap (the npc general).
All the while being back-capped, re-spawn grounds changing hands and even stronger npc’s being summoned to help in mid ( Ice lord anyone?).
Complex capture the flag essentially, was pretty awesome imo (till it dissolved to zerg and bots).
Not sure if the 40 person would work in this game, but maybe a 10 or 15 person version?

yes, 40 people is too zerggy, 15-20 people each side is fine.
i juat want league of legend-like moba game mode.. this must include in-game instant shop selling perma boost item so it allow us to make KILLSTREAK. so super luck or bad luck things happening on yoloq never happens cuz really skilled player can lead his team to win, even in the situation like 4vs5 happened. And also with leaderboard of its game mode as well.
