Q:

DEVS PLEASE: I’ve seen so many posts asking for the next pvp patch and devs either close them (if they’re disrespectful or fakes) or they just don’t give any answer to us.

I think we all need and deserve to know when is the next patch going to be released and why aren’t you saying when it’s going to be released, cause it seems you don’t want us to know about the things you’re working on.

Guys,

We simply cannot answer this question. Telling you guys specific release dates for these things has never been something we have done (unless we know everything is bug-free), because if something comes up that means the build needs to be pushed back, everyone gets super upset about it. We’ve seen that it actually hurts the game more to make promises like that.

However, if you read the interview from Colin that was done by Eurogamer, he gives a ballpark time frame if you think about it.

When [Living World Season One] ends [on 4th March], we’re going to take a break for a little bit and then we’re going to do one really big feature patch that is more akin to what people see from some of our [MMO] competitors,

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-14-you-thought-that-was-it-for-guild-wars-2

Due to the size and scope of the final four story releases in season one, the next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished.

I would like to know why they do not bring small patches with the living world update. Like the 8% healing reduce for warrior or the bug fix for ranger elite healing.

Why update spvp only 2 or 3 times a year and change complete the meta instead of adjust the meta every 2 weeks a little bit.

May as well repeat it again if it is unclear. The idea behind a really big patch is to simulate a very large content update that has the potential to draw a LOT of attention to the game in a short window of time.

Look at it this way. They could balance small changes patch to patch like last year, but those small changes don’t really move the builds people use much, and they don’t create a lot of interest in the game honestly, because they just scratch the existing problems.

Enter massive “FEATURES” patch. This patch completely overhauls runes and sigils, creating a huge field of theorycrafting and new builds for people to play around with. Because ALL of these are getting reworked, the possibilities are endless on how long that can keep people engaged.

Also enter what could come with those changes. Big balance shifts to try and shake up the current state of PVP, introductions of new and fancy rewards, a new WvW season for people into that, skins now tranferable from PvP to everywhere else drumming up interest for the average person to PvP.

Or they could release a little every 2 weeks, let people get bored of it in 2-3 days, and go do something else. The idea behind the feature patch is to provide a massive pile of content RIGHT BEFORE the release of competition. Hopfully that content will then ride through the period where that or those games are in their golden phase, and will keep people involved long enough till people tire of those games.

It gives them the best chance to keep people in the game, and provides what most people really want…. and expansion esque level of updates all at once. (minus the new zones, new skills, etc).

The downside is the game gets really stale over the next two months till that patch, but what difference does that make… most people enjoy the game enough to just come back when the big patch hits, and at worse they lose some Gem Store revenue from those folks taking a break. The people that enjoy the game will come back when that patch hits, and they know this.

Of course from the Spvp side of things, the carefully tuned scale required for an E-sports level offering goes completely to pot, but I think that ship has sailed already.

Why do you deserve to know the date of the patch?

Why do you think Anet themselves know about the date of the patch?

These things change and if they say it releases on date X when in fact they have to postpone it until x+1, can you imagine how annoyed people will be?

They are not going to tell you the time of the patch if it doesn’t suit their marketing interest. Unlike an expansion where the company tells you in advance to get the player to prep their wallets this is a free patch and there is no reason to tell you in advance.

As u know im pro. ~Tomonobu Itagaki

This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

Why do you deserve to know the date of the patch?

Because I’m a paying customer.

Why do you think Anet themselves know about the date of the patch?

Because if they don’t have a plan, they are grossly incompetent. Are you suggesting they are grossly incompetent?

These things change and if they say it releases on date X when in fact they have to postpone it until x+1, can you imagine how annoyed people will be?

Do you think there is a possibility of giving something other than a particular day? Perhaps a range that has both a begin date and an end date. March-April is better than “sometime after today”, which is basically what they’ve said.

You defend ANet at every turn. Uou cannot look at the situation rationally and recognize they really dropped the ball in terms of communication with the community. Are you some kind of shill for ArenaNet?

->Because I’m a paying customer

And I guess that entitles you to know everything and anything about the game? If we’re going to go that far, why don’t you go to Seattle and get past the doors and claim that since you pay for the game, you are entitled to walk through their offices and act like you own the place? After all, you are paying their salaries, right?

You pay the right to play the game, nothing more. You are not owed anything more than that.

-> Because if they don’t have a plan, they are grossly incompetent. Are you suggesting they are grossly incompetent?

I like how you use the word ‘plan’ but don’t understand it.

In the business world we have two related terms. “Plan” and “Actuals”. Plans are forecasts and goals. They are not set in stone and are subject to change. Actuals are forecasts and goals that are set in stone and will be met.

If you cannot understand that, please do say so, as I can provide simple examples.

->Do you think there is a possibility of giving something other than a particular day? Perhaps a range that has both a begin date and an end date. March-April is better than “sometime after today”, which is basically what they’ve said.

2 months range isn’t enough. Things change. Go look at precursor crafting and new legendaries, which was planned as far back as June 2013 and has yet to be released but will more than likely be released in the content drop.

I mean, if people are outraged right now over something that Anet didn’t say but random people in the community said to be true, then imagine how outraged people would be if they specified it would drop in March-April but had to be postponed?

->You defend ANet at every turn. Uou cannot look at the situation rationally and recognize they really dropped the ball in terms of communication with the community. Are you some kind of shill for ArenaNet

This is not about defending Anet but more about criticizing people here who have irrational expectations and analysis at the ‘situation’ at hand.

I have criticized Anet plenty in the past, ranging from shelt/pen nerfs to the watchwork pick.
