Why hotjoin sPvP is all zerg: tournament scoring
Like I said in other threads, they need to give points for defense (x number of points every 10 seconds on a point, for example) and martyrdom (y number of points for dying while defending or attacking a point). This would incentivize players to actually fight for points instead of skirmishing on the field (seriously, the skirmisher point bonus is wtfhuge).
Also, to prevent the situation where players just sit on a point because there’s absolutely no chance of making a comeback, they should stop making kills count towards team score at around the 375-point mark. In the current implementation, once the winning team’s score passes a certain threshold (say, 125 points over the losing team), it basically becomes impossible to win without a massive 3-cap upset. This would nip that problem in the bud, allowing for more tense and dynamic play near the end of rounds.
+1
Hot join has become a demented zerg fest. No point in playing the game of conquest, just run around as a group, kill stuff and prosper – win or lose.
Zyrusticae has some good suggestions there that have worked well on other games.
This is why I’m getting to the point where I’m just gonna join tPvP. Tired of the zerg, tired of watching 5 people trying to kill 1 enemy while the rest of the enemy team backcaps our points.
By the way: the system is even broken for tpvp. The only difference is that there people don’t care as much for the points as they do for winning the tournament obviously.
Defenders still get next to nothing.
I watched the stream of Team paradigm last night, and even though they won the matches I followed, I was rather surprised at the terribly low point scores some of the group got…
In spvp winning or losing hardly makes a difference. Most don’t care anymore.
So a flawed point system is simply more prominent there, because there is no other bonus around to focus on (like winning a tournament).
