Why is Diamond like Emerald?
They got carried by those that knew how to play.
Because Gw2 doesn’t actually have ranked PvP, just a button with the word “ranked” on it. The colors and divisions simply represent luck and number of games played and have nothing to do with skill.
The quality of match ups depends on the time of day and how quickly those that know how to play progress. You could have also gotten lucky when in Ruby and gotten grouped with players that know what they are doing.
It’s because of the way matchmaking works this season. This is possibly the worst matchmaking of any game that has ever tried to perform any sort of matchmaking. Even pure RNG matchmaking would probably be superior.
Look i will tell you why.Two days ago i joined a team cause i wanted to see if the guy who organized team was good or any member of team.Then for 6 games i did carry that team tanking enemy.Playing was like this i had over majority of 5 games 3vs1 and i was tanking enemy while team kept hitting points.So after 6 games i got feed up two of them hit diamond one was 1 pip away from it. Personally i was stuck ruby for at least 6 days other needed few more wins for diamond.Then on the 7th game i changed class stopped to tank and carry sudden team was losing and guy blames on me.While they where no good from begin but ok,did not even comment on his ranting he and the other vote kicked me and he instantly put me on ignore.So that is why you get those diamonds they not deserving and got carried.Saw them again playing 2 more games group fell apart and since then any of them has not progressed further.So 3 of them are stuck diamond tier 1 and others Ruby.

50/50 match making is not garbage.
Just as you get bad players in your team,so does the other team,as the MM tries to match the teams as evenly as possible.
If you can carry your weight,and if your team mates can do the same,and if the other team can’t do the same,you’ll win the match.
Apparently there are a lot of players that git carried by the fixed matches of seasons 2 and 3,and now that the odds are even seem to have difficulties in advancing.
Although it would be nice if tier and pip protection were removed completely,you still are not able to advance from ruby to diamond playing solo queue if you can’t play your class.
If you get carried by premades,that’s another story.

Having large skill gaps between teams does not lead to reliable prediction of the odds each team has of winning the match. This is one way that the matchmaking is garbage. Only having small skill gaps achieve this.
Playing with and against players who are downright terrible is not something that’s fun for higher skilled players. This is another part where the matchmaking is failing. And it’s easily solved by ensuring that all players in a game are of similar skill.
Due to S2 and S3 matchmaking, player MMR is presumably distorted. Some players have MMR that over-represents their skill (those who had MMRs high enough to benefit from S2/S3 matchmaking), and those players are getting especially shafted this season, because unfortunately they’re expected to carry more dead weight than they could possibly carry even if the system that creates matches could place high confidence on the odds each team has given the data it has (which, it can’t, and doesn’t even matter if it could because the input data is faulty). Some players have MMR that under-represents their skill and those players are cruising through divisions.
Essentially, we have a system where everyone gets garbage-quality games, and if everything is working perfectly (which, we know it isn’t) everyone regardless of skill advances at the same rate (i.e. zero prestige).
To say that matchmaking that gives garbage quality games, and results in zero prestige is not its self garbage, is insane. I have no idea how you make this statement, except through extreme ignorance.
My ruby queues were quite fun, ESL players in most of the games, prominent names, twitch streamers, people who basically knew how to play. Most of my matches were fun and competitive. I hit diamond with ~60% win rate. Then my queues turned into complete garbage, no one knows how to rotate, people lose matchups they should win, the team loses a 3v2, etc. It feels like diamond queues should actually be emerald queues. Seriously Anet what gives? Why is a higher division filled with players of lower skill than the previous division? Something is clearly wrong.
The real answer is in all division entry tier, you got the bad that can’t lose divisions.
The better player will find a way to exit the first two tier fast to never lost too much in there.
If they lost, they are guaranteed a big MMR hit.
It’s probably what happening to you. Your MMR got trash by Entry tier Grinders with bad MMR.

I don’t want “bad” players on my team. I want both teams to have players of equal skill. With S1/S4 match making, teams feel like they were artificially made to have “equal skill”. I don’t like that type of team balancing. I should feel like the people on my team are “on par” with me

Maybe you got to Ruby fast so you had the good players around you but you took longer in Ruby and most of the good players have now moved out of your pip range. League doesn’t really show skill, but the speed of progression does to some extent (even though games played and luck with the streaks are also a factor).
I played less this season and didn’t play for 5 days when the season started so I’m behind my ‘usual’ piprange and the players I was matched with in the previous season, but I still occasionally get some strong players into my matches who also were slow with the ‘pvp grind’. Many matches have fairly low quality, but at least that should give you the opportunity to carry since the teams are mostly evenly matched (if the quality is low it is the case for both teams).
I much prefer the current matchmaking season to the one last season. Now you have a bigger impact on whether your team wins. One side is no longer stacked, so your performance matters.
I’m skeptical of players that always blame their team and place no fault on themselves. You’re just as likely to have bad players on the other team as your own.
As for rotating, there are various strategies and sometimes the team is not always in synch – especially in soloQ. Given the randomness of the selection, sometimes your team composition is suboptimal and you get poor match ups. Many people have a preferred class and can’t switch to an equally skilled toon.

Basically this. A prime example of this is Bik who got carried by Kralled and I in a 350pts deficit game then proceed to made a cringe vid about it on YouTube. I actually stop queuing for like 1 weeks so all the bads I always have on my team move out of my pip range before I queue again. Carry them once or twice is fine. But tbh my grind to legend basically bads taking turns getting carry by me and other good players like Kralle, etc. But at the end of the day, it took ~130 games-ish I think to get legend. My Winrate was ~75-ish% or maybe 80% not sure. I’m not that obsessed over stats like most people on here. Granted I did 4 and 5 man during Ruby till mid tier diamond cuz I don’t wanna bother carrying bads but then I start soloQ the last 4-5 tiers of diamond and won most of the game I actually tried on. So while this season system is bad I would say it is doing its job by limiting the bads somewhat from getting easy legends. Although a few bads will still get lucky and get a lucky streak but it less than last 2 seasons.
