Q:

Nothing has yet to change the meta to actually counter the biggest game changers: Mobility…Thieves and Mesmers and how quickly decapping takes v. capping.

Bunkering is one problem…but that just makes it easier for Thieves and Mesmers to fully excel (they are pretty sustainable unless super outnumbered).

Thieves and Mesmers haven’t changed. They are still pretty much uncontested in terms of mobility and map control. They don’t have to fight. None of the sigil changes change that.

without mobility those classes would be worthless

Team Deathmatch for PvP – Raise the AoE cap for WvW – More unique events for PvE

They are completely worthless without their mobility? I’m genuinely curious…

I do fancy me a solid Thief or Mesmer they bring a lot to the game, but the gameplay they are dependent on doesn’t make PvP competitive…to me, it seems to be a problem with every other class (as none really have the tools to even threaten that gameplay) and how conquest works.

Both classes are really strong duelists and that improved with the patch (the meta hasn’t changed). They have high damage and high mobility which is nearly equivalent (in its own right) to high sustain any bunker solo (like any class these days anyway)…but the thing is, why even bother a bunker—all you do is decap, lure opponents away from points and if they don’t bite, you cap. Or, if you see them coming your way, you stall them on the point ensuring the other points are even easier.

It’s always a win-win-win if you don’t have the blessing of a mirror match that also knows how to abuse that gameplay. While it is competitive to see which side wins a mirror match…is it competitive when that’s the only counter to it? We’ll never get diverse build varieties this way.

They are actually balanced around their mobility. There is reason why Anet doesn’t allow thieves to have semi-decent 1v1 build (hello staff dueler nerf) that can hold point. Mesmers can hold point for very limited time as well. You can’t compare it to capabilities of DHs, wars, ele and co.

Really strong duelists? Is this a joke? Really strong duelists are warrior, not thieves.
Mes/thief “mobility” compares to bruisers sustain? Really? Once again, is this some kind of sick joke? This is a point game, mobility doesn’t enable you to hold point unlike straight out endure pain or 2198391203981023 blocks from DHs.

I am honestly surprised you complain about mobility of the roamers, considering Anet have been been implementing quite few changes lately to get rid of roamers all together apparently.
OP, you need to understand one thing: roamers do not bring much in team fights, their whole purpose is to decap other points and drag enemy out of big team fights. When there were no roamers in season 1, we had a massive bunker fest and everyone hated it and this is what you are asking for. And yet you dare to claim that roamers don’t make game competitive? Somehow i feel like top players would disagree.

If you have such big issues with roamers, run a druid for example, you would have RTL on short CD which will enable you to keep 2 points at the same time under check. Or play DH – thieve’s/mesmer’s worst nightmare. Anet gave plenty of mobility to brusers/bunkers with HoT and dumbed down some maps for them (also built in some no valid path crap in skyhammer so you can’t even use blinks) so i don’t think they have any right to complain.

Why is Mobility ignored in “balancing”?

I wondered this myself, so I asked Arenanet in the feedback thread, here is the reply:

Are Arenanet unwilling/unable to totally rework abilities or just in number tweaking mode?
Does it take the resources of an expansion budget to totally rework an ability?

We’re able, but it is a question of time tradeoffs.
- Tweaking something requires quite a bit of testing to see that it will not have dangerous consequences.
- Re-working something entirely requires even more testing for those dangerous consequences as well as functionality and potential bugs.
If it is needed and we have the time resource then we’ll do a re-work, but we’ll use tweaks when they’re deemed sufficient.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.
