Q:
Why is NA and EU separated?
because i think the servers are in 2 different location.
one is in NA
one is in EU
So that both EU and NA players can have a relatively close connection to the servers, thus reducing network lag. It is unlikely that the two will be combined until the time it takes for data to cross the Atlantic Ocean (or to go from California to Eastern Europe) becomes negligible and consistent.
The US servers are in Texas.
The EU servers are in Germany.

Maybe in 50 years, the US will have fully switched to google fiber by then and not be the 2nd slowest country right behind Australia. Maybe then it’d be possible.

That is a made up excuse from anet. You can run both regions on one. They just chose to separate for other reasons.

are you a network protocols specialist or engineer?
perhaps the reason why the physical game servers are located in europe, so that the players in europe can have better latency, less lag in the game, etc?

And this is pretty easy to see too. Play on an EU server from NA and you’ll experience lag. The same goes for the other way too.
That is not true. Gw1 in its prime never had an issue with all countries on all servers. Next excuse please.

please answer my question.
are you a network protocols specialist or engineer?
Yes. Both. How did you know?
a better questions is why the hell do you want to play with the poms
really bad engineer
I really just want to play with the serbians.
I have an NA and EU account for pvp and I experience far more lag playing EU than NA.
Yes. Both. How did you know?
i dunno. that is why i asked in the first place.
so, based on your experience as a network protocol specialist and engineer, could you explain to us why a player in EU would experience better latency (lower ping) by playing on data servers physically located in NA?
dont need NA Players in EU
they always say when dont have an answer “Learn English, Your english is bad!!!”and in EU we have a lot different countrys/Languages
dont wanna play with this guys^^

I assume your question is to snoop and find if if I am telling the truth. I won’t entertain your question. I will say, that it would not make a notable difference. Especially in a game where lag does not matter.

are you sure?
there are players who played on both EU and NA servers and experienced much better latency on NA servers.
how would you explain that?
I’m an EU player playing on NA server and I have no lag at all.
What if there are two separate servers and they are in the same location (both in america). One may have different routing protocols to main destination server vs the other, (the promotion of faster or different route paths to main server). Why? Maybe one network is configured to be more responsive to pings from EU. Also when we talk about servers are we talking about only one server per district? Like. One for EU and one for NA? Or are there conglomerates of servers all in one space for each NA and EU?
I cant find much info >_>

Bad equipment? Bad service?
Distance increases response time, no way around it (limited by speed of light). 10,000 miles does make a difference. Plus longer distance usually means more in-between devices (routers, switches, optical switches), which all introduce some delay too.
Plus that means using the transatlantic fibers which are in high demand, and increases the chances of packets being queued somewhere, introducing jitter. This would translate in game into lag spikes (you know, that dodge roll on kill shot).
Yes, in some cases, mainly if the devices between you and your local server, are overused then you may get better speed using the remote one, but as a general rule, we’re better with local servers.
If GW2 goes esport one day finals, qualification will be local and finals will be played on LAN anyway. Like all sports (real or e-).
The thing is GW1 let us play together, the lag was very annoying when playing Mesmer. I would say that GW2 is less ping dependent than GW1 was though.
That smart talk. To sexy.

I’m sure that the delay in Gw1 was a lot more…annoying than it would be in Gw2 since the skill level is not as high for some classes (mesmer/ranger). In Gw1, you also learned to adapt to the lag. Some of the greatest Euro mesmers were just fine with 3 second delay on PB. Godmode even. It would work. It would make for better sPvP in a whole being able to play all countries. Instead of the people.

no they don’t
i play from EU on US server and i did play on EU servers as well.. the delay is noticable
[Teef] guild :>
We do have some american guilds on our EU server, farshiverpeaks , i really dont hear them complain anymore about lag then we do though.

Exactly.
