Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war!
I play a lot of competitive games and I’ve never seen the competitive arena(ranked) be disabled, EVER..
This just makes gw2 seem so casual.
Well in case you haven’t noticed GW2 has always been advertised as being very casual….So yeah, no surprise here.
Well, this season was casual to a point that unranked are more competitive than ranks. But to answer your question, Iol (one of the most competitve games out there), has a break ( about a month) in between season. Futhermore, gw2 being an MMO, break after major updates is a NECESSITY.
To make it seem like ranked was rewarding and meant something when we really only played it for a less garbage matchmaking.

Cause they obviously locked ranked PvP to seasons. Its funny how it never occurred to them that players would want to remain playing ranked in between actual seasons cause it seems like most players expect to continue playing ranked even if its not in season.
TBH I can’t wait for ranked to come back so I can remove this stupid pvp tag thing off my name and never get another 1 ever again, I don’t want the traumatic experience that was S2 matchmaking lingering around next to my name anymore, and whoever said ranked atm is like hotjoin you are correct, all you need is luck of being put on the best team and the other team doesn’t have a chance, it’s like sending in the wolves to slaughter the lambs, not sure how people call that competitive but idc give them their ranked back already so they can stop crying & begging and so I can get rid of this pvp tag. Thanks.
