Jumping increases the distance between you and melee/physics projectiles. If attacking/casting worked while constantly jumping, it’d be super easy to macro turbo jump and just hop around avoiding a lot of potential hits/damage. It would also reduce the intended advantage people have when they are on higher ground.

The fact that you can start your attack then jump to hit higher ground seems like a bit of a bug, but I’m glad it’s there since it allows for skillful timing of attacks to hit opponents on higher ground.

I believe other games had issues in combat balancing where nearly every pvper in the game bunny hopped to victory…it sucked…and it looked stupid as hell…

Theres a very simple solution to this, make jumping not increase distance!

Easier said than done. GW2 uses a lot of physics and such a “simple” solution would require hundreds dev hours, if not more, since it would break the majority of the combat physics. What would be the point of being able to jump and attack if it had no impact on gameplay? As the poster above said, this would just allow silly looking bunny-hopping.

The majority of the player base would rather the devs keep working on balancing the game and giving us new game modes.

Edit: I just want to point out that I thought this thread was a troll/joke thread and only answered it seriously because I was bored =/. Bunny hopping silliness would be absolutely pointless in this game.

It wouldn’t be for bunny hopping, it would be for skills like blinks / rolls and just clarity of the game. Right now people coming into the game are at a disadvantage if they’re used to jumping around and being able to cast / attack. As is, Jumping disallows any form of cast / attack / ability / roll.

For instance, i want to use a backward roll / blink(something…use ur imagination) And right now i have to lower my movement speed to turn around then face the otherway before i cast THEN I HAVE TO TURN BACK AROUND… there’s no point in using “X” ability in the first place, being able to jump / cast mid air would create positions and situations where you would benefit from the proper usage of the skill. Like what if you wanted to blink forward behind someone instead of back infront of them… Its simple line of sighting, I cant do it with the way the game is programmed.

TL;DR: Jumping + casting / ability usage has no bad side to the game other than people using their jumping animations (which my i remind you was one of the Top #5 things people wanted in guildwars 2!)

Because cast skills + jump gives ground for possible exploits like thief’s infiltrator strike in mid air.

Duh, so wrong. The only reason why this exploit works is exactly because casting while in the air does not work. The return is set a couple tenths of a second after you press sword #2, but due to you being airborne while this occurs (whole point of jumping), the return point is never actually set.

Casting while being airborne should be enabled, because there’s like no consistency in what skills can actually be cast when in the air (e.g. venoms can, signets can not) and it gives way to exploits (e.g. infiltrator’s strike) and bugs (immob while airborne locking out skills including stun breaks and condition cleanses).

There’s also precedent for it being used on a regular basis to get an advantage and it seems to have become an accepted part of the game (e.g. jump dodging).

Jumping while casting is terrible anyway unless you’re trying to use LoS to your advantage like landing grenades on engineer from a lower point to a higher point or over an obstacle, you can get immobilized in the air and be locked out of all your skills including stunbreaks.

Yeah, having the game programmed / configured to let only certain (small amount of things to be cast) while jumping opens a conflict for many exploitable bugs that shouldn’t be happening.

That’s because the games programmed so. If the game wasn’t made to displace your charecter when you jumped it would be better.

bugs?

Yes, because proper timing while landing allow you to use skill and skip animation of that skill meanwhile allowing you to cast another skill right away.

And it’s not an issue in the title I have mentioned.
Tried the same thing in couple other games that allowed it a bit and in gw2 it is possible but it’s quite hard to do.
It’s not a feature, it’s quite a bug/exploit.

Forget about bugs and exploitables for a moment, What if the game was designed so that you couldn’t exploit jumping and casting… hate to say it but… like wow?

No. If the game removed 100% of the skill while jumping this should not happen. Jumping should interrupt or prevent the cast for all skills not just the majority.

Yeah, and if this was regulated throughout all the skills in the game It would be easy to make jumping and casting even easier.
