Why is fear a condition?
hmmmm yes i support fear being changed into a control effect instead of condition.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Control_effect
eh wait. fear is already a control effect, but its a condition as well. O_O
And not just a special stun which makes you move in weird ways?
Would help alot vs all these condi immunity skills for necro, engis can kinda deal with them with knockbacks etc.
Wouldn’t it also be easier to balance if it worked by same mechanics as daze and stun? like it wouldn’t be affected by condition duration anymore for example.Meh just something that has been on my mind since release of the game >_>
I agree.
I think that Fear should definitely be a control effect covered by stability. It needs to be balanced around being a set, specific, and fair duration.
This means that it would hit through abilities that prevent the application of conditions, but also be non-affected by +condition duration.

Side of effect (only for wvw) is that then it would proc Perplexity.
And oh my god would that be one hell of a fight. Necros with confusion. Shieeet.
really bad engineer
If Fear becomes a control effect, say goodbye to to the condition duration bonuses.
Also, why on the hell would you make fear a control effect instead of rightfully remove condition immunities from the game?

You can still have +fear duaration traits/runes. And it jusr makes sense if it was a control effect.
This would probably be a buff for some necros though, especially the ones who dont stack vondi duration out of ther dog(runes of speed op! ; D)
Why aren’t immobilizes removed by stunbreakers?
Most cc requires you to be in close distance and have obvious animations. Fear on the other hand is instant, can do tons of damage and has a pretty low cooldown in DS.
If fear would get a more obvious animation and wouldn’t do so much damage. Then I’m fine with it being removed as a condition. Otherwise it would be too strong imo.

errr i think because it is not a control effect? O_O

Yet immobolize is treated like a control effect since you aren’t able to move. And positioning is pretty important in this game.

Fear deals damage due to a trait, not by default.

As it should be ^^
Always wondered why fear doesn’t rupt, even though it rupts..

Think more, post less stupid posts.
Fear is the only condition that behaves in an odd manner. Stun Breaks will break Fear (unlike immobilize which isn’t removed by stun breaks), but it is also a condition so condi immunity will also make you immune to fear. I am not certain if stability also makes you immune to fear.

Daze allows you to move too. So? In all cases you lose control of your skills.

As for immobilize, it’s a root, not a stun so why should it be covered by stunbreaks? Unlike with stuns, you can still use all your skills while immobilized.

it does.
your forgetting that if they change it to a CC then you cant remove it with condition removal ie break stun with a condition remove dont say stuff like this when necros arent even the problem. warriors spirit rangers and thieves all so un balanced necro is the least of our worries. Typical post from players who dont have a clue about the problems with the current meta nice waste of time guys

silence Gruntled, or wait you talking in third person about yourself? if so keep going.
Cuz a CC you can’t trait and gear for it’s duration is to fair?
While we’re at it why is imob a condition? Duration stacking CC is silly.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
From a necromancers perspective this is a great idea!
I dislike the fact that fear can be countered by stun breaks, stability
and condition removal. Right now most necromancers only think
about maximizing their condition duration so they can get the most effect out of terror and dhuumfire, and that in my opinion is something that kills build (condition) diversity and overall effectiveness.
If fear gets changed to be a stun – reapers mark and other fear utilities (spectral wall) should get reworked to have a higher balanced base duration making it as high as it is right now with the effect of condition duration. Dooms base duration is fine and the change would make the game more balanced since its duration with condition duration is broken.
This would be a nerf but also a buff. With fear as a stun necromancers will be able to counter condition immunity like bezerker stance, automated response and to some extend diamond skin (even though its not used in high tier tpvp).
I have a great idea. Lets unmake fear a condition so that we all have absolutely no chance of beating a necro and so that all meta builds can revolve around chain fearing.
RIP those daring few who choose not to use 3 stunbreakers for utilities.
Seriously though. Some classes have access to stability in better forms than others, the same with condition removals. Imagine how simple it would be for a necro and mesmer to remove boons, lockdown and chain fear at mid if it wasnt a condition.

WHAT? This change would actually make it harder for necromancers to chain fear since the overall duration of fear would be decreased. Are you actually aware of how many fears are available to a necromancer? Doom (DS – 20s cd (17 traited), 1-1½s fear), Reapers mark (Staff – 40s cd, 1s fear), Spectral Wall (Utility – kitten cd, 1s fear). The fear duration noted is without condition duration which complements the idea behind this thread.
If you get chained by these abilities you are horribly bad and should just quit the game!

Are you aware of how accessible condition removal and stability is in this game? I dont think you quite understand how this would impact on things.
If it wasnt a condition then condi necros wouldnt exist. It is the backbone of a necros condition damage.
Doom (ds 3 20sec cd) has a very obvious animation.
Reapers mark (staff 5 40sec cd) not so much.
Spectral wall (spectral skill 45sec cd) is hilarious when ppl keep running into it.
Fear is in a fine place. It can be negated with stability, stun breaker, and condi removal.
Immobilize is not. Stacks (3 times now instead of 5, yay) and can only be removed by condi removal. Other conditions can cover it up, making it pretty hard to cleanse.
