Why is matchmaking so bad?
What division your friend playing? What is your friends skill level? If he know how to play to win and have skill range of mid /mid-high/high then just the system hates him and want him to lose.

the 50-50% W/L system in the works
-Total War: Warhammer
-Guild Wars 2
The 50% w/l system is just a failure especially when combined with the pip progression system. But its too late for anet to change something so fundamental and I doubt they would even acknowledge it as a flawed system.

50 50 win loss thing is real but the worst part is hearing people talk about getting 2 or 3 pips for a win.
Unlucky since launch, RNG isn’t random
PugLife SoloQ
Most annoying thing ever when you get up t2-t3 soloq then you only getting teammates that are low skilled ( in diamond ) vs enemies close to same skilled as you or whole team about same skilled teamplayers.
Its not fun anymore getting so bad solo teammates that don’t know how to play the game. killing bosses at start making sure we lose all points, afking and simply bad at ranked pvp. a lot of people play it like hot join.
I’m suspect the reason matchmaking seems to be getting worse is because of the increase in players grouping up with a wider variety of levels.

I mean, look at these two matches. You’d think there is something quite wrong there, pushing 50/50 to the extreme. No, there was no dc.

The matchmaking has always stunk if you have a long record as even a decent player MMR wise you will be asked by the matchmaking to carry complete noobs for long stretches of matches. And you can’t carry in this game either really (downstate and the importance of good rotations by other teammates ensure that) most of the people on your side either know what they are doing (win) or they don’t (loss). The only way around it is to smurf or run a full group and possibly even smurf with that sadly lol. We need a hard MMR reset before next season and a cap on league difference for grouping purpoes. Also, its proably not even that your friend lost out of 13 out 14 that annoyed him most I bet the vast majority of them were drubbings where he played no differently then when he was winning matches fairly easily. Nothing makes me want to throw my computer out the window more then losing like 5 in a row by an average score of like 500-250. That usually happens after winning about 5 in a row by large margins.

I honestly believe SoloQers were allowed only as fillers to reduce queue time.
Looking at league design it’s clear that it was intended only for structured teams hence e-sports, problem is that the solo team approach was tried before and failed due to waiting times so the solution was to allow fillers and lure them in with a nice pair of wings. The results SoloQers being farmed for division climbing and lots of angry people on the forums.

Then they can kiss their pvp audience goodbye.
It’s probably balanced, since no one come up on the forum when they win 10-11 match straight.
It’s kind of like the stock market. When people are making money, they think they deserve it. When people are losing money, they complain.

i came to the forum when i had crazy streak
but like 70% of that wins was REALY unfair the enemy was soooo bad that i could have bassicaly solo them man if half of my team gone AFK we still would have won half of it.

i did…. because i knew for fact that i will pay for it… and i was right, 10 wins turned into absolutely lopsided 10 loses in a row

tell your friend to not play when he’s on tilt
Meh I don’t let it bother me as much anymore. I’m at tier 1 ruby w/ 1 pip. I dropped pretty hard. It literally cannot get worse.
The whole system is trash, you’re either on a winning streak or a losing streak with maybe the exception of 4 50:50 matches in between. I was 3pips away from Diamond and went on a kittening losing streak now its 12 and 90% of these matches weren’t winnable at all given my teammates. The system is garbage.

the same thing happening with me nowdays.

yes i feel the same. no matter how skilled you are. as a true solo q’er you will get about a 50-50% win lose ratio.
Ranked games about 50% Unranked games: having a lot higher like 60 or maybe 70% win rate for me haven’t calculated as i don’t care that much but it’s atleast 60%

It’s very frustrating. I was 6 pips from Diamond, playing mainly solo queue with a DH. Then the losing streak happened and I lost 14 pips. It took 56 games to get back to where I was, 6 pips away from Diamond, which happened just last night. And today? 9 out of 11 matches were losses, the majority completely lopsided and now I’m back down to 13 pips away from Diamond.
I use the GW2 Efficiency website to look at my overall win percentage and any time I start to creep over 50%, Anet punishes me by horrible teammates or impossible comps. The last loss, my team had a Rev that finished with zero points. The guy above him had 20. I had 125. Sorry, I can’t carry the entire team.
I know I’m not the best player in the game by any stretch but I also know I’m decent. I know my rotations, I can 1 v 1 most classes, and I hold my own in a team fight. But because I have a relatively high MMR, I get punished hard by Anet. It’s very, very frustrating.
The worst is fighting against a 5 man premade with a smurf account. Those games are usually 9 times out of 10 a blow out. Hard to believe the MMR was thinking of a good game, I’m more inclined to think it didn’t want them waiting a long time for a game.
In other games, if something as kittenmurfing, or tanking, mmr gets abused…. it gets fixed asap.
In gw2? Well, IF you get lucky, you MIGHT get a fix for it 3 weeks after first complaints have been made about it.
Guess again why gw2 is laughed about in esports?

scoreboard points means nothing. with max points you still can be one of the worst that care less about team and more about grinding the scoreboard show off. and last ones with the lowest points also can be one of the most useful ones or one of the most focused targets

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you have 20 score at end of match, it just means you went afk on close and called it “I hold close against imaginary threats”.

And the same does not happen if you have a 5 minute 1v1 holding far for your team?
There are many ways a player with low to no score can be the mvp of the team.
I like that one.
Playing Smite since mid s2, f broken gw2.
I like that one.
No worries , arenanet will “fix” it by putting the first team against a full diamond team after the patch. Thats some good matchmaking!

lol arenanet honestly think gw2 will be the next dota2
have any of your actually watched the championship matches? theyre boring as kitten, generally e-sports is usually excited to watch but the gw2 championships are worse than watching paint dry

Seriously, learn to disengage :o
If your team looses, holding that one point against another bunker is just… stupid. Better to loose that one point, help out on another and come back later with another teammate and take it back in a few seconds, resulting in 2 caps, instead of 1.
THATS good gameplay, and carrying…. not afking on one point and saying “but I held close ALL of the match against this staff tempest”.
Idk peeps. You have such great explainations to this sheet when its not even logical in this new system. I cant even remember last time i had a fair match (especially in ruby). Its always 500vs200 in the favor to my team or the other team. Never a close match… >.> The best fights i had was in end of sapphire but after i got to ruby i took a break for 2 weeks or so and then i got teamed with nabs who seemed to be 100% pve’ers. I miss the times the matches were close and you didnt get nabs who went for beasts in forest map instead of going mid, resulting in losing mid…etc etc.
I have the answer for you OP. The answer is that matchmaking currently is 50% division and 50% mmr when it matches players. So awesome when the current system can be farmed by anyone which result in pve’ers flooding in ruby (just to mention one division). I bet tons of nabs are in diamond & legend division too. I just got tired of the sheet i get to see every match that aggrivates me so frikkin much that i just stopped playing ranked entirely.

Yes, I know individual points mean nothing in most matches, but if you lose by 300 points and one of your teammates has zero and the other has 20, that’s a good indication that a) you’ve been teamed up with players that are not at the same skill level as you and/or b) you’re fighting a team that is far superior to yours, both of which are NOT supposed to happen in the matchmaking system. Yet on certain days, this happens repeatedly, oftentimes sequentially. ANET basically admits it in their post about the upcoming changes to season 2.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you have 20 score at end of match, it just means you went afk on close and called it “I hold close against imaginary threats”.

I made 0 points in a match yesterday by contesting the graveyard non-stop the whole match. No team could claim graveyard ever. If I had left the other team would have had the cap for sure and I was at least always the focus of 2 players which means my teammate had an advantage by my continuing what I was doing.
Tell me oh wise and powerful what would have been better? Tell me that my contribution to my team victory was worth zero (nobody killed, nobody captured, no cap defended because it remained neutral). Thinking the scoreboard is indicative of anything relevant is plain idiotic. It is not how you measure how instrumental one was in a match.
You honestly expect match making to be good when balance is so bad?
Think about it, someone looked at Revenants and went, “You know, 600 range, 3 second stun on cooldown of like 10 seconds.” Someone looked at Dragonhunter and went “Traps reeeeeeeeaaaaally don’t need casting time and virtues can be infinitely better.” Lets not forget Druids! Someone looked at druid and went, “Needs TONS of CC, less PvP, more people unable to attack.”
Chronobunker I can see slipping though the cracks, same thing with Reapers and Tempests. But the others, it’s just plain dumb, no one put their foot down to say that’s a really bad idea.

In all arteas of the game so many dumb ideas get implemented that its clear their review process at design level is almost non-existant.
