In games where your team collectively decides the other team is overall better coordinated or just has the upper hand (especially those times when you’ve figured out your pug was matched with a premade and the score is 85 to 235. Why is the the only option to endure the next 3-5 minutes? That is life we don’t get back and time we could spend doing something more valuable. The alternative is people will just continue to rage disconnect when in pugs, breaking the whole system. I suppose bringing dishonorable back will help but it won’t change the fact that you’re wasting everyones time when it’s clear one team doesn’t stand a chance. GW1 has a /resign option.

In fact i think penalties for leaving arent harsh enough. Imo they should suspend your account from playing rated games for 2 weeks if you afk/leave more than 2-3 times within a few days. Those 2 weeks should apply to actual days you are online aswell. So no “i am on holiday the next 2 weeks anyway”.

I never understood why people sign up for a pvp game or otherwise if they know they cannot complete it. Furthermore I don’t understand why some players decide to give up even if it is still a chance to win.

I can almost guarantee one thing. People would ragequit and feel even better about it because after all, someone would just replace them. Then you would have people saying “guys, if you don’t do what I say, or respect me, I will quit!”

Pretty much this, Ive had a couple of quitters. One of em I faced in the next game and we just killed him repeatedly. Never has there been such satiesfaction!
Anyway, if you cant handle a competive game, or losing, or simply don’t have time you dont join spvp. I know you do regardless tho. You don’t care about anything but yourself.

Except for the people who stay and try to win a match. You get rewards for losing, maybe your ego doesn’t. If it’s just a video game why don’t you just go play hot joins? You can leave whenever you want in those.
I more or play unranked matches, mostly cause I am still learning, and scared of rank matches, lol. Though not once have I ever thought why can’t i just quit the match. If we lose, we lose, if we win we win, but I play for the fun more or less, and yeah, when i feel better I’ll try rank.
It just a game though, after like waitinf for a match for three minutes, why not go finish the match. it not over till the score hit 500.
Or maybe they could implement a feature where teams can still earn “pips” and rank up even if they lose but their team score is high enough. Maybe call it a league system? Then this wouldn’t really be a needed feature… oh wait.

Absolutely untrue. The /resign mechanic in GW1 worked so that the whole team has to agree to /resign. When that happens they ARE NOT abandoning the match they are giving the other team the automatic win. That way no one’s time is wasted. In most real world sports scenarios a team can elect to forfeit. It makes much more sense to allow this in e-sports.

If it is to be limited it should be only for when there are 150+ point difference (a lead that is nearly impossible to come back from). If team has determined they have no counter for strategy against them why should they be forced to hold out the entire duration? That makes no sense. Again, the /resign feature I’m recommending would work as it does in GW1. The entire team has to agree to resign not just a single player saying “I’m out”. It seems several replying to this thread don’t understand that.
There should be no reason to give up at 150 point difference. I had matches, both way where we had a 200 point lead, and suddenly were down 100 points. Quitting early breed trouble, and leaving it up to a team vote would just cause trouble too.

Point taken. You will be surprised tho. I had a game that we were ahead +150 points but our warrior decided to AFK because he said he can’t bunk mid so he kept dying.
Because it will promote avoidance mentality. People will quit instead of keep trying and learning. It will be like what hotjoin is, cycling through team rotation til you find proper carriers. Game will be reduced to slot machining to win. Think about it.

Being up 200-300 points only to lose because team mates got kitteny and decided to stray away from made us effective from the start. 2 people heading to beast, losing trang and stillness, 2 people going for lord and dont get it. Conquest allows for anything to happen and i wouldnt of had those matches if we allowed this community to quit when things got hard.

Again, you’re looking at this from the perspective of an individual wanting to /resign. I’m talking about cases where the ENTIRE TEAM collectively chooses to resign and give the other team the win. Why should they be denied the right to do that. I’ve heard no good argument yet. The opposing team gets the win. The loosing team looses. This just makes it so in cases where a loosing team collectively decides they are are outmatched no ones time gets wasted. There is no logical argument against a team resign feature. It would fix a time sink in this game.
Real sports do not pit premades against solo queues. Major league sports are ranked competition. I’m not suggesting this feature for ranked matches or Hot Join (in hot join teams can just leave and I’ve seen this happen) it would just apply to Unranked which is where all the problems are in sPvP.

I like that you keep bringing up the professional sports argument. You realize that in pro sports people pay money to watch these things right? They aren’t playing out the match for anything other than to get their paycheck. Every team pulls their starters when they know the game is over. If a team pulls their starters, that’s basically the same as someone in GW2 sitting AFK. They aren’t trying to “make a magical come back”, real life isn’t a Disney film.

Just had a 4v5 scenario. My teammate dc’d 10 sec before the match and nowhere to be seen. Me and my team were like “Well, lets just do the best we can and have fun..”.
We ended up winning. And not by alittle either. 502- 258 to be exact.
Never give up. Never surrender. Always give it ur best.
I understand that irl issues are forgiving or if the internet /power dies. It happens.
Just give it your best. No whining, no crying. No namecalling. Just be a decent human being and have fun. You be suprised how many friends you get with an attitude like that.
I know couple people who would /resign despite winning on EU in the middle of match.
Probably one of the reasons.
Of course every teammember has to resign to end the match. Invalid.
Resign mechanic would also make queues shorter, reduce toxicity in matches, and more.
Just imagine stronghold: stalemating, neither team is able or willing to kill the boss, but one team has more points. Impossible for the other team to come back. Then they have to wait 5 minutes until the match is finally over and had a really frustrating and boring time. Resign, just like it worked in GW1, would be awesome and is eagerly needed.
I mean now I just quit the match and dishonorable won’t stop me. If there’s no resign mechanic there’s simply no other way. Not my fault, but Anet’s. Bad game design.
