sPvP is currently underdeveloped. There are only a few maps and a single gametype with barely any variation. This will eventually change, probably.
more modes would be nice, but in tournaments only conquest please ^^

i don’t really care what modes we have, but if we only use 1 mode in tournaments and balance professions around that mode the game would be better and more balanced

So you can get bored then play other games with multiple PvP modes of course! I’m sure the devs realize that just one game mode is dry and there are more to come.
It just not coming yet.
GW1 done a such nice job, so we believes 2 will archive ti sooner or later. But, of course, balance take time, it only been 2 months.
I agree. It was a bit disappointing to see how low this game actually is on PvP. Having rooms that will always be open, using the same options all the time, It’s poor.
Being able to creative your own rooms and play different styles means ALOT to PvP. Choose you own maps, amount of players, player style. Heck.. even just make a room urself so you can put a password on it and have private matches.
Tho I do maybe think it’s a bit early to complain. The game haven’t been out for to long, so it might yet come. But considering the time they’ve spent on making this game, it should be something to have in game at full release.

It’s probably going to get to the point where PvE/WvWvW and PvP skills are balanced separately – as it was in Guild Wars 1. It worked.
But even if they are separated, all modes needs to be considered when balancing is made, regardless of whether you personally like that mode or not.
This is why 4 people I know irl have stopped playing gw2 even though they were excited for it when it came out. It has been a long time now and still no other game types…. forget game types there still isn’t a duel option like every other mmo on earth has.
Because after 5 years of developement the devs were able to make only 1 game mode and 4 maps…

Well, in their PvP article way back in Beta Dev’s mentioned a map with a dragon controlled by whatever team manages to get it to work for them and even this map isn’t anywhere. So I’m assuming it’s all in the process and we’ll keep getting stuff added as time goes on. I would love to see Capture the Flag. I also thought a interesting idea would be a “Deathmatch” style like you get one life so you really have to be careful as a team. They’d be quicker games too I think would be fun.
But King of the Hill would be an extremely! easy add. Just take existing maps with Objective Nodes and make it so they are the “hill” and just form it around a crazy king type style so it will change between the nodes. Take the forest as example, Keep/Henge & Mine would all be points and maybe even add two other nodes for in that middle ground below the keep and one in the back of the map near the water.
Yep, kinda wishing there were other modes as well. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I kinda miss Huttball from SWTOR. It was really unique compared to just about any other MMO. The ability to pass the ball plus the map so heavily laden with deadly traps really made for an interesting game.
Hutball was agonizing. If you selected the wrong class a month ago, you lost at hutball.
i don’t miss hutball a bit…. you had less sorcs you lost…

I hate conquest, I want pvp to be revolved around actual fights not avoidance of said fights to capture points.
I agree completely.
I haven’t done much sPvP due to this specific reason.
Point-holding becomes gimmicky quick, and there are another 20 more entertaining modest o be made.
Many say this is a “pvp game” but it makes no sense sPvP has very few maps and 1 game, while PvE and WvW have 15gb of features.
Hopefully more will come at some point.
They said it’s all on their radar so it’s just a matter of time.
I’m rank 30 and I’m really bored of conquest mode and the same 4 maps (3 in tournaments, and same order), this sPvP needs more PvP modes (capture the flag will be nice) and more maps (arround 4 maps more), a part, TV, ladder and ¡¡¡¡GvG!!!!
Now the game is tourning boring, ever day more players leave the game Arenanet may add motivation to this riddiculius sPvP (actually ranks and skins farming mode).

Well, balancing pvp for this crappy conquest mode will make other types of modes unbalanced.
I dont really think so :P
The other modes(CTF-arenas) will be as zergy (choose a target and kill it fast) like sPvP :P
Thiefs will die in aoes :P

I see it more as telling Michael Phelps that he can only compete in the 800m Freestyle event and him saying, “I like to swim so why can’t I swim other ways from time to time?”
Basketball is a sport built around one way to play. MMOG PvP is not.
I should also note this isn’t really a complaint so much as a question and suggestion. I still enjoy sPvP and WvW and PvE. They are all fun. I would also like to just hop into a random 5v5 deathmatch or something else every so often.

ANet please make Random Arenas in GW2. It’s simple and It’s fun mode. More fun, than conquest…
More game modes (and maps too) would be really cool for fun play. But for tournament play and the sake of balancing, having one mode be the dominant mode of play is probably teh best approach.

for the sake of balancing they need more variety, not less.
It’s an illusion that one game mode leads to more precise balancing.
Capture point 5v5 leads to bunkers being too important.
8v8 on 3 points leads to burst being too important.
When you have different game modes, other builds will show up that are too strong (too fast flag runners for example, or too much cc in death matches, etc)
Balancing should take all of this into account.
Not just focus on a single game mode.
And a game calling itself a pvp game should have more than 5 versions of the same capture point game mode.
Heck, it’s not even with a variable ammount of ‘capture points’. It’s always just the 3.
Pvp in this game needs work, lots of work.
And those thinking people will come back when some future expansion box will introduce more game formats, should think again.

They will ruin their reputation more if they dont stick to their guns and flip flop.
Maybe Alcopaul, but that simply proves they are getting too close to that point where you can’t win anymore.

I think the one I’d play most would be a 5v5 (maybe 8v8…..but teamwork generally degrades and makes PUGs more irrelevant as you add more players to the mix) push map with 5 capture points all in a basic line. Each team starts with one on opposite sides of the map and a Guild Lord guarding it. They then have to take pints 2 and 4 before they can fight over who takes point 3. Whoever takes 3 can move on to cap 2 or 4 and so on. That’s my favorite TF2 map and I’d love to see it in GW2 :-D
