As you can see in the screenshot, my winrate is better than people miles ahead of me on the leaderboard. I assume this is because I placed in gold while they placed higher.

10 placement matches either give you a massive boost or a massive deficit on the leaderboard, which doesn’t make sense to me. Can someone explain, why is this a thing?

the real question is how after 4 ladder leagues u can’t understand how it works.
u probably play against people with low rating and the other guy played against player with high rating.

Last season’s rating affects this season’s. His was probably higher than yours last season so it’s easier for him to climb.

It’s not about wins and losses. It’s about WHO you win against and WHO you lose against. That person probably won against higher ranked players that you have yet to face.

i agree with the above 3 comments. lower tier enemys provide lower tier rewards. its a long climb out of gold. good luck.

As noted, your MMR increases/decreases based on the skill level of the enemy team and your team.

After each season is a soft reset. This means that previous season placement does affect your placement in the following season to some degree. Unless you make some huge jump in skill during the offseason, this generally isn’t an issue. After that, your initial matches have a much larger effect on your rating than the later ones. If they went 10-0 their first matches, you would have to win significantly more matches to catch up if you lost some of your placements. This is slightly unfair, but the net result is better matchmaking, since players climb to their deserved rating quicker. Lastly, who you win against heavily affects how much you climb. If, for whatever reason, you get more matches against players worse than you, you can end up with a positive W/L but a low or even negative rating change.

TL;DR – There are a lot of factors at play here, and you will climb there over time if you deserve to be there.

I want gold. I can’t seem to win enough to get out of bronze or even stay in silver, and everyone I get is worse than me or votes for coloseum or capricorn, the two worst maps. I know I’m getting players worse than me in skill but I also get paired with them. I know I deserve to be in silver I-II at least, as my first ten matches 4 and 6 set me at compared to 4 and 6 last year at bronze II-III, so an improvement in my overall skill, but the game mode seems to be all against me.

are you queing solo all the time? sometimes a duo can help you win more games

I don’t have many people I know that I can to duo with. I also see I said year instead of last season… My mind must be thinking of season as years for some reason.

Not really, and the topics concerning matchmaking quite prove it. If players belonging to x rank can be placed between [x-100 ; x+100], and add to that newcomers that can be placed anywhere, then you can have totally unfair matchs.

This is a good system for the long run, but seasons are restarting too quickly in my opinion, and results in matchmaking frustration.

This is my issue with ranked

I placed tier 2 plat last season, this season because half of my teams couldn’t keep up with the other team I suffered

Id get 2 or 3 top stat awrads (all for the exception of 1 match where I let my frustration get the best of me so I accept that lost fairly)

However, I despise the idea of being punished for that

Imo if I play on that level as an individual then that’s where I should be

Because of those teams ive been placed in gold and instead of if being like last season where I won most of my matches, I’m constantly shifting back and forth between losses and wins

That’s not fair to me and it needs to be changed, just my opinion
