Why people don't PvP anymore....

I don’t really see the problem here. Ultimately the opposing team had a better team comp than your team, and from the looks of it you guys were trying to hold mid without a guardian while the other team did have a guardian. With that bursty of a spec, you should have tried to hold outer nodes.

Precisely. they had a better team comp. (Maybe you didn’t notice that I said this was Solo Q and thought it was team Q) Ours was awful. Since we don’t get to choose our teams in Solo Q this is the fault of the algorithm that puts people together.
Edit: Not sure where you got the idea that their guard was in the middle since the screen shot doesn’t show that. I was actually in mid fighting a mm necro with no guard in site.

Personally…I think people got bored. Yes, there are a million and one complaints that people can make about balance and such, but people don’t get as upset about balance when the game still feels fresh to them.
As it stands now, we’ve had the same classes with the same skills and same professions in only 1 gametype since launch. This was bound to happen.
edit Also to the OP: You were on a team with 2 thieves and 2 eles and a ranger against a much more balanced team. The score doesn’t particularly surprise me. Sometimes the luck of the draw in team comp just isn’t in your favor.

Im quite sure he understood your post perfectly fine.
Matchmaking in soloq is based on MMR and not on professions/comps. So its a bit about luck aswell. If you dont have the ideal comp you need to adjust to the situation. As the guy you quoted stated aswell.
Edit:
To reply to your OP. Im not sure what 1 single soloq game youve been in has to do with the popularity of pvp in this game.

And that is the problem, the algorithm is based on MMR alone (or at least from appearance to the players). I’ve never seen another pvp game that doesn’t take into account the professions/class of the people on a team.
And as to the popularity of pvp in this game…. it isn’t hard to tell that it has been declining even though Anet pushes very hard to get people into PvP. Why do you think all of the sudden they are making a whole bunch of changes to a stale game mode? Same maps, same style fights, same skills as day 1 (some slight changes have been made to skills/maps but the new heal skills didn’t impress many besides mesmers[i.e Litany of Wrath just makes me laugh], and most people hate skyhammer).

Once you get you MMR / position on the ladder up a bit this situation wil improve. People will switch classes if the comp really needs a certain class/role.
I would like a system like wows LFG system in PvE where you have to select in advance what your prefered role is (bunker teamfighter or roamer). On top of that i would try to prefent class stacking (unless the other guy fulfils a different role).
Downside could be that queuetimes will end up skyrocketing.

So why dont you just relog to another profession? I believe everyone has at least 2 chars ready to go.
People dont pvp because the game sucks, not because of this. The mmr algorithm uses only the account name, not the class that the account queued with. If it did use the class, everyone would have like 10 minute queues. This is probably the only good thing about the mmr algorithm in gw2, how it only matches the account, leaving it to the players to relog to any class they want to create a more balanced comp.
Unfortunately games like this happen. Generally if you have decent teammates someone will be smart enough to switch to another class. I’ll give you an example I had the other day. I had two mesmers and two eles on my team, they were all fairly lower MMR and none of them would switch. Not surprisingly we lost. Then one of mesmers said we lost because we had a bad bunker guard. I just face palm and went about my business.
Heavens Rage

If the game sucked, people just wouldn’t play it and they wouldn’t be posting here.
The game, at it’s core is great, but people are bored and bitter, which is why these forums are so active (with angry posts).
Actually, I would guess that my MMR is pretty decent. I will by no means claim that I’m near the top, but I have done my fair share of pvp, and I’m almost always placed in matchups where people I play with are about 30 ranks above me (I understand ranks don’t equal skill, but spending that much time in pvp means you can’t be that horrible either).
And yes, people can switch but the two eles (one was champion hunter, and the other was champion phantom) decided neither would switch, and the same went for the two thieves (one of whom was a champion paragon).

So ether you switch, or you just do the best you can with the given team comp. Knowing what your team can and cannot handle can play a big benefit to winning a match. Personally, I would have bet on the fact that most guardians have no clue on how to rotate (and since communication is terrible in soloque) because most of the time they sit afk at mid. So instead, I would have heavily favored the outer nodes as I know that once a guardian shows up to a fight with all squishies fighting, the guardian’s side is going to win.
If that didn’t work, then oh well. You win some you lose some.
80% of random matches are entirely predictable just by looking at the comp.
Personal skill doesn’t matter in this game, it’s just all about group dynamics.
That’s why sPvP is so little fun and by far the worst aspect of this game.
If it wasn’t for the Achievement Points I doubt even the 11% that play on a regular basis would participate.

Judging by the number of games you played and your current standing on the ladder it cant be that high :P
Ive seen some horrible rank 50+ players to be honest. Ooh the stories i could tell you …
i don’t think it is even mmr based looking how i get lv 1 teams vs lv 60s and i was at 300 on ladder… during prime time too
how does it happen? humor me

Depends who is online and available at that moment. In a community as small as GW2s you will end up in somewhat of a mixed group at times. I heard there is no matchmaking for teamqueues either (i assume your statement is about teamqueues joined as soloplayer).
The average game of a higher rated soloq player will have more people in them that know what they are doing, if compared to the games of people in the low percentages.
