Why reset rank for matchmaking?
they ARE being used for matchmaking
you’re getting matched with teammates of similar mmr, you’re simply not getting matched against opponents of similar mmr now.

bs i had 4 ppl in my team who didnt even know how to capture points (total newbies) while the other team rolled over us like we were nothing. So pls dont tell me this nonsense. Matchmaking is broken even more than before end of story. You can say what you want but ppl here are having 20+ loses and thats not a bad luck thats something else.
um, the more you lose, the lower your mmr gets and the worse teammates you’ll get.
and since the higher ranked players are still within pip range of opponent searching, you’ll get steamrolled even further.
maybe you’re getting horrible teammates because you’re also a horrible teammate?

They are being used but not to th3 extent you wanted them to. Idk how to say it but the pip range overrides your MMR now.

Has it ever occurred to you that you deserve the teammates you are getting?

Total BS, I made it to Ruby last season, why I’m I playing against Primordial Legends then…? and one of those was a Pro League player..
So yeh sure similar MMR
i could be wrong but i remember during last league this was asked to be done. threads are still here i just don’t feel like going through pages and pages of QQ’s. i wasn’t sure why people wanted it to be this way because then everyone starts at the bottom.
basically no matter what is done people will see something wrong with it.

Maybe people were asking for it because they were under the vague impression they were good at pvp and thought they would breeze through amber like a pro?

MMR isn’t used as factor (or primary factor) when determining your opponents, pip range is.
MMR is used as the main factor for your teammates, aka if you’re a good player, you get good teammates, if you’re a bad player you get bad teammates.
Unfortunately, the side effect of this in the first few days of the season is bad players (such as yourself) getting farmed by good players until they move out of your pip range (10+ pips more than you have)

Wouldn’t consider myself a “bad player”. But sure that’s your opinion and your entitled to it. Pretty sure given the time I can make it all the way this season.
well unless you’re running into 4-5 man premades every game, the common denominator in you losing all those games in a row is you.
you’re not getting matched against ESL players because you’re in the same MMR tier as them, right now you’re simply getting matched against them before they’re within your pip range and farming you.
wait a couple of days until the players currently farming you advance pass the point where they can be matched against you and then you’ll see better matches.

And so back to my original point.
If the MMR tier (currently league Division and Tier) being used was the one you finished the last season on instead of resetting everyone, the matchmaking would be much better at the start of the season.

aaaaahhhhh nooow i get it thx man. so matchmaking should work like thisssss: lets make a team of total newbies and lets put them vs epic ranks….because high rank vs high rank is just stupid right? ty for explanation, you are right everything is ok.
So much false information in this thread lol. Matchmaking is based on division….
So both your own team and the opposing team is based on what division you are in. Since the divisions got reset, everyone is playign with and vs everyone know. Matches are a roll of the dice atm.

Correct! So once again back to my original point (with slightly clearer language than in my OP)
Why was our Rank (By this I mean Division and tier) from last season reset for matchmaking purposes? If everyone playing now was being matched by their rank (Division and tier) from last season – The matchmaking at the start of the season would not be so bad.
By all means reset progress for achievements but not for matchmaking.

Well this is actually true to the most extent. However, the system is working as intended by ANET.
Player A queues in, gets thrown into a pool of same range of div/tier and then bucketed by MMR.. closest 5 toons get in a bucket. Bucket for team red is full. Look for a blue bucket in similar division (No MMR check for blue). Found it? cool. Match set. Not found? Increase search range till match found (max: 4 mins). Found? cool. Matches will be unfair. They will be stupid. But, that’s not a consideration for the system. That’s season 2 for you.
This season it is all about matches/hour. How do you show PvP is gaining momentum in a game? You have to go by the numbers in form of metrics. Data is God when it comes to procure funding. If season over season number of matches made per hour increases it will prove PvP is more popular than ever. Last season was plagued by long wait queues in matchmaking process at higher levels. Hence, smaller number of matches were played at higher levels. All ANET did this time is that they moved the MMR from one side of the “IF” logic with setting a 4-min queue wait counter to increase number of matches made per hour.
Matches are a roll of the dice atm.
I do not believe that to be at all true. In a random roll of dice you don’t lose 10, 25 straight times. Its a statistical impossibility.
