As the title suggests, there is no incentive for me to use direct damage as my primary damage source in tournaments…. i mean seriously. Aside from having to constantly be striking to deal damage, there are SO MANY counters to direct damage as opposed to the one counter to condition damage, that being condition removal, which isn’t even that big of a deal considering the availability of the conditions you can apply.

I feel like it’s comparing a fire and forget heat seeking missile to some barbarian with an axe. Obviously the missile is the finer, and more reliable piece of weaponry.

To be honest i think Conditions need more drawbacks. and by that i mean make it so that the caster is losing out on something significant for choosing the path of a condition nuker. For starters, possibly make it so that they are more vulnerable to direct damage. Necros in gw1 for instance used to sacrifice health through some of their blood magic rituals, why not have many of the condi spells cause vulnerability to the necro?

Aside from that theory, i think the best thing to do would be to add a DIRECT COUNTER to condi damage. atm there is no counter to a condi spammer. zero. We need to be able to choose a “condi killer” sppec. a spec that we can trait and build for that we will just say " hey this build is going to be designed specifically for shutting down condition specs".

This can be achieved in many ways, but i think the safest would be to add a new stat that allows all classes to have some degree of increased defense against conditions. With all of the anti-direct damage (Weakness/blind/evade/toughness/vitality/confusion/positioning/CC) i think adding SOME type of direct counter to conditions other than TRYING to use condi removal is just NECESSARY at this point in time.

Melandru runes used to be a very strong counter to conditions (-50% condition duration) but that was nerfed in beta.

Warrior’s berserker stance now gives 10 seconds of condition immunity when traited. Engineers have a trait that gives condition immunity without any internal cooldown. There are strong counters to conditions in the game – they’re just not widespread.
