So the World Finals have been announced for September the 17th, with the Qualifiers being held August 6. – 7. When the whole schedule was announced, ArenaNet called it a “Wildcard Tournament”.
You might aswell just call it a give Vermillion a second chance at the prizemoney on the EU side. It will literally just be a S02 finals with 6 teams instead of 4. What the hell. The EU Pro League scene is drop dead silent and the challenger teams don’t even get anything worth their waitd.
I will never understand Anet tho. Maybe time to do a long break for most of players and come back after the WTS idk actually. More money and less tournaments/streams it’s like wtf. Doing this will never make GW an esport game.
And playing ranked is not even fun because of MM broken so nothing to do in this game. Well I will prolly play more often OW after the official annouce.

I think now that the ‘wildcard tournament’ actually means the world championship qualifiers, yeah that is not what I expected it to be but that is good too. It is good to give the top level players a more chances to win than people just trying to qualify for the pro league/competitive events and lower ranked pro league teams. Having 6 teams rather than 4 is awesome too.
I really hope that the qualifiers will be streamed because I do not think that I will be able to cope with the hype of waiting from tomorrow until September for more awesome e-sports events! Seriously, I have been so excited for the pro league finals for weeks and now they are tomorrow I just can’t believe it. I just love these e-sport events so much and with the announcement of the world championship I feel so happy and I really hope Anet continues e-sport events for as long as the game exists.
I just felt like I had to say that with how excited I am, but back on topic. I am sure that Anet will add more events for teams not yet in the pro league or even more pro league seasons which will of course feature qualifiers next year. To be honest think Anet have found the perfect schedule for e-sports events for this year so I would be happy if every year is a repeat of this one when it comes to competitive play. Of course players who are actually trying to compete in these events may have a different view but I am sure that after the world championship there will be events that are for more than just the very highest ranked teams which I guess is what you would want, OP.

Yes, at least we used to have 2 competitives tournaments every week. An at this time the AG and 2v2 tournaments were played. So we had plenty of competitive stuff to do. Just pointing out that it is really unfortunate that we have less content.
And I love the Anet events, I am also really excited to watch the final.
But nvm I will keep playing this game as I play it since start of GW1.

It’s WTS where the best teams should play and hands down -that’s TCG/Rank 55/Vermillion and not any Top 10 Challanger-Team which is “on top” because 90% of the former players ain’t playing actively anymore at the moment.
In my opinion they just should make Go4 cups again. A game made for causals where 90% of the good players are inactive currently needs tournements which fit for the present situation. Gw2 PvP lacks players primarily. This means everyone has to be able to compete in some way, to make it grow.

Yes Obviously WTS should host the best 3 teams of each region, and right now it is easily Vermillion. But that does not mean they should just get the spot uncontested. Whats the point in hosting a “competition” for this proclaimed Wildcard if in actuality there isn’t any competition. You might aswell just say “hey WTS will be the top 3 teams of the last PL” instead of hosting a turnament.
Why are teams that don’t even play this game anymore just handed money without them running any risk of having their positions taken away by anyone else. How can they not think that teams that were the top of the game almost half a year ago (more or less) are still in any way current?!

As long as Vermillion is allowed to participate hey will get the third spot “for free” and "uncontested"anyways – no matter if they have to compete against challanger teams or pro league teams only. The only way where a challanger team could get a place is to exclude every pl team which also means to exclude vermillion.And tbh this would be stupid because a team would get a spot that defintly does not belong to WTS and would only get the spot because of inactivity of other players.
Why do you have this idea that I want to go to WTS. I just want competition, and for EU at least, the tournament would be a lot more competitive if you included the top challenger teams. Neither it is the fault of pl-players that they are inactive nor its the pl scene which is dead. Its the pvp in general. The “challanger team scene” is as dead as the pl scene – there are about 2-3 teams that started to try in pvp when everyone else stoped.
The only difference between both is that the challanger teams went on with playing yoloque matches while most of the pl-players aren’t interested to play matches that blast out 500:100 each game.
I wouldn’t call this competition.
The guild leaderboard was in all 3 seasons just a huge joke and even the achievement-points-leaderboard seems more competitive to me, to be honest.
A simple solution would be to allow everyone to participate and not only pl-teams or those 2 challanger teams who farmed PuGs in yoloq.
Still it is a shame to not provide anything to those teams. Everyone should be able to compete in someway. If not in a tournement like that, they defintly should provide something else, especally because anet even announced something for those teams. But anet always has been better in announcing and talking than in implementing and carrying out.
The best thing would be Go4 Cups, ToL etc. which fit best for both, a growing and a dieing game. But I’ve already said this before.
After this I feel really disappointed. Now the mid season will soon start it will be boring as usual. They really need to make go4cups back or create some competitive tournamentS every week for players. Not a competitive tournament for 3 teams in September. Doing this will make the game more interesting as it used to be in the past. This is exactly the weekly tournaments that motivated to to play more seriously this game. Now I really don’t know what to do after this announce…Hope they will bring something new soon.
