Will GW2 be a depressing topic in the future?
sadly for the 80% of the people that bought this game this summer, it’s already what you described.

I hope I’m not naive thinking that if they can just impliment a few major changes that the community is yelling for, some of them may come back.
I made a post before Christmas (early December) stating how important it was to get certain features in before the Christmas rush of new players. They completely neglected that, and I’m sure quite a few potential new players are now long gone as well.
They have their different teams.. live teams, support teams, bug teams, balance, wvw, spvp, new pve areas, old pve areas, holiday themes, updates, etc… but never shall they meet. So many people working on a game you would think they would shift them around to the priority areas… nope. shortsighted

I fear (without being sure, mind you), that the mmo-market is changing fast. Wanting to be sure of the changes is a fine idea, but I am not sure you can ever be sure of the impact of changes. What I fear is, that the cautious approach to changes eventually will be too slow, and the result will be a negative spiral in terms of active players which can’t be reversed …… but I sure hope I am wrong in one or more points. I do think/feel some middle-ground solution would be best suited … but who am I to tell.
I played SWTOR as my last MMO. GW2 devs are like transparent godly saints compared to that team over at EA/Bioware. I gave SWTOR 9 months before I put it I. The “could have been fantastic” bin, I like GW2 enough to give them another 12 months.
I think Mr sharp has some good things planned for us this year in the pvp department, and if not, PvE is t that bad that I will have nothing to do.
He’ll, I might even do some WvW. Every time I look at it its full with a que and everything, that’s where the pvpers are.
As much as u cant stand the thought of it trolls, gw2 pvp will be just fine. Still tons of people playing but everyone hates tourneys. Once rankings are out game’s gonna be just fine.
Yup, all 100 people are still somewhat active. Future looks bright.
“Tonnes of people”. The weight of 100 people is bound to be a few tonne:).
Regardless, it isn’t a troll thing, it really is dropping. I play oceanic, and we can’t play paid tournaments, that’s an NA prime time deal. We now can’t play Free tournaments after oceanic 10pm, that’s dried up aswell.
All 100 people smashing it out in hot join does not make this a thriving game. Doomsday predictions can be a bit over the top, but without a few small features that the community is screaming for, it will not grow any further and continue to dwindle, regardless of how low that dwindle it is, it is still a dwindle.
Game devs want growth not decay.
The small team of Devs they have seem rather good at skill design, map design and combat mechanics. Balance could be better but is still decent, probably would be excellent if the current dev team could focus only on those areas.
However there isn’t anyone really responsible for community management for the pvp side of things or someone to make sure the key features match ALL player’s needs. Instead it seems like they just reallocate the devs to these areas periodically, which has just left a huge disconnect here as it doesn’t seem fall under the PvP devs spectrum of expertise. Mostly I see this as a resource allocation issue, the company is asking a lot from such a small team which has left a lot of holes when comparing what the team is capable of, and what is needed. I don’t really see this as a time issue either, just that a small team can’t be so diverse to provide excellent content in all areas.

Great post! I agree, I don’t forsee this game being a esport just because most of its resources are being used elsewhere. Pve is first in the list to do. Anets priorities are always going to be to them. I would like to be proven wrong but i played enough mmo’s were i just have to admit that it ain’t going to happen! Reason why so many people had high hopes i included gw1 was a excellent pvp mmo. It was known for pvp yet they claimed gw2 to be esport competitive. I see Smite becoming a esport before this game.
5+ years to make 4 maps based around conquest. Pretty sad…3 months after launch 75% or more of the spvp population disappears!!What does that tell you? Mmo’s always had to start out strong in order to sustain its lifecycle. I see this game falling of on the other end of the spectrum(PvP wise i could care less about pve and zerg wvw…)

I really like this game aswel but gw2 is just that .. lots of potential. Cant believe that ppl say that game is just fine when pop is droping really fast not just becouse of the thieves, 100b, shatter or some other crap that is easy to counter.. problem is just … conquest lol.
Yeah some1 probably will say “i like conquest, ppl just need l2p” why l2p a game mode that is poop. And probably people are like, meh tournies are boring im going back to wvw with my guild.

The problem with adding different game modes now is that it will segment the already small community more.. maybe in the future if they do eventually add required features and the community returns

Some of you guys are definately on rocketfuel of some sort. High energy and high adrenalin boosting through huge games in five hours focused more on how fast and efficient you guys reach the end then calm the kitten down and enjoy more aspects of it. I guess this is how i remember the kitten-pvp-guys from Gw. No sense of the beauty and depth it seems. I am not calling you spoiled brats, because of course i cant call you any negative words; so i dont call you spoiled brats..!
Do you have any reason to not trust the guys that made GW original? You cant give them a little time to catch their breath before they surely will continue to make this game epic? Did any of you not hear them say that their wish is to make this game an esport? Do you think pvp is not in their priorities? REALLY?
I am not calling you all spoiled kittening brats. Just “high in demand, and no sense of the hard work that is being put down for you to soon enjoy”.
But you know.. leave.. let the guys that enjoys the game in more ways enjoy it all. Let us play the uber pvp that is obviously coming. You can read about it in all the magazines while desperately trying to find some other game that is better.
Or calm the kitten down and do something else then your usual rut. Try all the professions. Master more then one. Perfect your prefered one. Get ready for what is coming.
Have some well deserved patience with anet.
Or, you know.. just leave.
lets wait for February pacth, arenanet say will change lot of things on sPvP. im not very confident about that patch because this guys specialty apparently is lying to pvp players.
lets see what that pacth bring because is that patch that will gonna say if spvp of this game dies or not. lot of pvp playes is waiting for that patch to see if they return to game or leave completly the game and if that patch dont bring LOT and LOT of major chances i can assure both arenanet and players will abandoned for good this part of GW2 .
after 4 months !!!! game release spvp didnt get any major change, most of changes were failed attemps to balance the game and minor class bugs fixs ( well most of time they fix something and bug something else) and now in a single patch they are promise us lot of changes on sPvP? sure……yap…..
We can keep whining about features…They’ve said time and time before they’re coming. They can’t release those in one week. It should have been in-game before release but this clearly wasn’t the case, so we’ll just have to wait.
Lets hope we get a blogpost this week.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
lack of public test server is killing them. they are gonna release some new stupid ranking system that nobody likes and will take another 3 months to fix.
sadly for the 80% of the people that bought this game this summer, it’s already what you described.
Why not 99.99%? While you’re busy pulling numbers out of your kitten might as well come up with some pretty ones.
As of today I am done with GW2.
PvE is meh, I’ve always been a PVP player in GW1 and after tolerating this sham of a PVP experience, I’m refusing to log in-game until changes are made, I’ll just stick to the forums until I hear the word of new pvp modes.
