Q:
Lets face it, GW2’s end game is… well, there is none. I know that GW2 team is more focus on living world rather than dungeons and raids like all the other MMOs.
But in my humble opinion, this can be easily fixed by adding a traditional PVP. Because MMO’s end game is all about collecting gears and PVP. What’s the point of collecting all these amazing looking Ascendant and Legendary gears if you cant use them in PVP for their awesome stats? In GW2 I feel like the whole point of getting better gears is to just… well, get more gears faster in PVE since they are useless in PVP other than look.
Some might say thats what WVW is for. But WVW is just a mess in my opinion, im either in a huge group and button mash since there is no organization what so ever or by myself or with a few friends and get destroy by another huge group of people. Fair fight almost never happen.
It’s very easy to add the traditional PVP mode since the game already has WVW, its just like the current PVP mode with WVW rule. I know people would argue it would destroy the balance of the game because it was made so everyone would be equal. But guess what? They can always make this new PVP mode unranked for people like me who likes traditional MMO PVP to just have fun.
The ideal MMO module should be Start game—>Level Cap—>PVP—>Find out other people have better skills and gears—>Go to dungeons or Raids or Events to learn more about the game to higher your skill cap and find or craft better gears—>PVP again.
Currently in GW2 PVP and PVE are completely separated. GW2’s team should make them more integrated with each other so that players will feel more like they have a goal in PVE

Hahaha no.
I love GW2 PvP because everything is opened at the start. The ideal module should be exact same as GW2.
I doubt that would work.
In Guild Wars 2, gear is categorized by quality. Ascended-quality gear has the best stats in the game, and all gear of a quality is equivalent in stats. This means that there is no Ascended equipment better than the other. This also means that there cannot be gear progression past Ascended.
All “traditional PvP” would be is a PvP game type where only players with Ascended gear can play. That’s not a good thing because some PvPers are simply not interested in PvE. Therefore, the idea that players would be required to participate in PvE in order to play PvP is awful game design. In fact, players needing to do something they don’t enjoy so that they can unlock something they do enjoy is awful game design.
Huh. Doesn’t that sound familiar…?
Either way, having the option of having a completely separated PvP game mode is undoubtedly the ideal model all MMORPGs should follow. I understand it makes you feel like your PvE progression has no effect on your PvP experience, but that’s because unless you’re playing a PvP-oriented MMO, it shouldn’t.
Instead, World vs World should be improved to provide players with a better PvE+PvP experience. There’s tons of ways to go about it, but there seems to be far more urgent matters being discussed aggressively on the forums these past few months.
Personally, I’d prefer if they put PvP-exclusive rewards back into the game (PvP rank-based equipment skin unlocks) instead of these reward tracks that give PvE items I couldn’t care less about.
Duels are bad so hopefully not that type. A death match where you can’t res people who are finished would be nice actually.
I rather have the dueling feature, where you can just right click a person and offer a duel anywhere.
Hahaha no.

Exactly.

This game is designed for team cooperation. We don’t need people crying on forums, that in duel of two different classes, one is stronger than another.
You all in this thread have came from another mmo, where all is about gear farming and proving that one class is overpowered in comparison to another.
Just play the game and stop crying.
that is the only reason i ever decided to play gw1 and gw2, it has pvp that does not force you to grind pve for gear.
What’s the point of collecting all these amazing looking Ascendant and Legendary gears if you cant use them in PVP for their awesome stats?
What? No! Are you one of those, who can only beat other players if he has better stats? We want a fair pvp environment, where only skill matters (choosing the right profession and build is part of the skill).
In GW2 I feel like the whole point of getting better gears is to just… well, get more gears faster in PVE since they are useless in PVP other than look.
Look at all the really traditional PvP games like CS, Starcraft or maybe even Unreal Tournament; those players did not even needed skins to keep them invested in the game.
Fair fight almost never happen.
So, now you want to change that in PvP too?
It’s very easy to add the traditional PVP mode since the game already has WVW, its just like the current PVP mode with WVW rule.
You have no idea, how the server structure works. There is nothing easy.
Not to mention: Don’t split the population further!
No. Thats why is pvp here so awesome. Players win because of skill not fat wallet or gazillion hours farmed in pve
Traditional pvp is what makes gw2 more interesting, if you’re calling WoW’s and SWToR’s pvp tradional. Most MMOs have a pvp setup that’s all about grinding the better equipment, not by being better. The fact gear is standardized in gw2 makes its pvp better.
The problem GW2’s pvp has is that currently unranked (and between season also ranked) queue is being infested with 2 incompatible pvp styles. Conquest and deathmatch. Deathmatch with too large teams have been proven over and over to be ineffective.
GW2 should split conquest with DM, make some extra DM maps (can’t be that hard). And allow a 3 man queue for DM, a 5 man queue for other playstyles.
Also conquest alone doesn’t work well either. Some new gametypes should be added as well.
Some other pvp styles generally liked:
*Capture the flag (alike WSG in WoW)
For GW2 scene: capturing the power orb of the enemy and when you couple them with your own in your own base you empower a battleship. The victors win by being able to escape the island on which both forces are stuck.
*Sportlike games (alike huttball in SWToR)
For GW2 scene: Taking a bomb to the enemy base and have it explode onto a machine in the enemy base. Only one bomb spotted by npc scouts at a time. after a certain amount of hits, the machine is destroyed and the ones with the working machine win.
Although i’d say these 2 types would fare better if the pvp queue was expanded to 8-10 (instead of 5) or else stalemates will be too frequent.
You guys definitely made some good points. Just one more thing before I go back to the game: Is there really no point of PVE at all?
Even in pure PVP games like battlefield you can still get a gun or two from the story mode to use in PVP. If there is nothing you gain in PVE other then skin, then why bother even make PVE? Its not like fighting AI monsters is anywhere close to fighting other characters.
Whats more ridiculous is that the award you get from PVP is for PVE. Isn’t that just stupid if PVP and PVE not suppose to have any connection in this game? At least they can make some PVP gears as a reward for leveling up PVP so playing PVP has a point since PVE already doesnt do anything?
Can someone please give me one reason to ever step foot in PVE that would make a difference for me in PVP other then skin

Hi, next to everybody still playing this game has always disagreed with that model, I don’t think there will be many who agree with your ideals.
And here I thought traditional PvP meant arenas where the focus of PvP is actually to PvP and not stand on freakin points all game! I could’ve agreed with that! But apparently traditional PvP to you means a grindfest! No thanks!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
In GW2 the model is Start the game—>Level Cap—>Try to make legendary weapon (End game PVE)—>Realize there is no point making it since its nothing but skin—>PVP—>Realize playing PVE is a big waste of time, all the skins collected are useless since in PVP setting all characters look generic can help with the competition—>PVP—>PVP—>Realize since PVP in GW2 is competitive, the amount of PVP contents is nothing compare to other competitive game like LOL or battlefield with only 1 map for conquest and a head full of other maps for TDM

This post should get a big “A:” beside it, because it’s the proper answer to the OP.
“Traditional PvP” in your eyes is Gear to win .
And thank god Guildwars2 will never be link that.
If you want your Gear &/ Buffs affect your gameplay go into WvW, but that will be the most you will get.
There you can PWN undergeared and lowranked ppl, which seems to be what you want .
Aside of that you perhaps will find what you want in Wildstar, its somewhat like GW2 but Gear-to-win.
The way GW2 handels endgame / pvp is super enjoyable , you will look so much sexier if you play the game for longer than other ppl , or simple have more money than they do.
But in terms of pvp performance everyone is equal, b/c everyone can easily creatre any profession and equip every item / skill ingame.
At OP, WvW fills that purpose.
Zerging is as traditional as it gets.

No difference. You should only play Pve if you enjoy it, it’s the way the game was designed. Most players prefer a specific game mode, but sometimes mess around in the other parts of the game, that’s why the rewards make sense.
